      Oh dear! I’ve never had that happen- try putting the thin layer of paint on the plate and print on copy paper or card stock leaving the paper on the plate until the paint is dry. - then pull. That should get the inkjet ink off. If it doesn’t- you could try baby oil or baby wipes to rub it off.

      Well I got about 85% of the print to come off with baby wipes😊 I felt a little funny buying them now that my kids are adults😂. Thank you for your advice. I would really like to find a way to transfer some of my artwork pictures from my laptop using my inkjet printer. Is there another option I can try with what I have? Also I am using a gel plate that I made last night with gelatin and glycerin. Thanks.

      @@faithmusic9 I’m surprised that the ink didn’t pull off your plate with the paint. I’ve never heard of that before. Glad you got most of it off. I’ve made plates too- they aren’t as sturdy as the purchased ones, and I’ve never tried to do ink jet transfer with them- I hope it works for you! The only other option might be to get laser prints made and print from those- which is actually the opposite process than ink jet. Laser print resists the absorption of the paint and leaves the image on the plate. Good luck!

    I was so hopeful when I saw this but I could not get anything to transfer. I used premium paper because I have not found brochure paper. The premium has a slight gloss to it but not like photo paper. Do you remember the brand of paper and brand of inkjet? I really want this to work somehow but neither inkjet nor laser has and I wonder if it is brand specific. My photos are super high res contrast so I don’t think that the problem. And magazines do work when I find the right one so at least there’s that. Charcoal drawings transfer quite nicely too. I would just love to MY PHOTOS to 😢

      Hi there- so sorry it didn’t work for you- yet! This was Staples brand brochure paper- but I’ve gotten it to work with regular paper. Make SURE you are using black ink only. Not black and white image (that setting uses all the colors to make the grays) I could only access that option via my computer- not an option when printing from my phone. My printer is an HP Envy 4500. Also- sometimes the pull is light and you didn’t think you got it- but there will be imagery there. Push the contrast, so there’s a lot of the black. Good luck!

      Whoops- didn’t see your question until today. Sorry about that. Printer is HP Envy 4500- brochure paper was Staples brand (don’t know if they still make it)😕. Make sure printer settings are BLACK INK ONLY. (Black and white setting doesn’t work because the printer uses all the colors to make the gray scale) I’ve not done it with laser prints- that’s a different process in that the ink on the paper creates a resist to the paint, and soaks in the paper so it leaves the image in the plate. One of these days I’ll experiment with that! Good luck!

      Oh my black ink is seperated into my printer . Every ink can have no whit or other colors in it. I googled it. I know now that laser printer have powder in there ink can. The laser burn the powder on the paper this is the gine different why transfair only with laserprinter work. The other system soaks up the ink. Laser printer seal the paper with there system. If you have a new plate, be careful with using glossy paper. With new plates the glossy paper can stick to the plate and be really hard to remove. I’d test a tiny corner before you lay the whole glossy sheet on your plate. Yes- a laser print works differently than this method- this method transfers the print ink onto the plate- then you layer paint on the plate then pull the print.

    hi, so is the inkjet printout fresh and damp when you put it on the gel plate or already dried. What makes it come off and stick to the gel plate ? is it just the connection of the gel plate material and the dried inkjet ink. I didnt see you put anything down on the gel plate first. Are you relying on a sheeny paper so that the inkjet ink stays loose or does that not matter. Thanks

    Thank you for this. I keep hearing that photo transfers only work with a laser printer (which I don't have) so this looks great. I also like that it doesn't reverse the print. I am looking forward to trying it. Can you explain why it doesn't work with colour? You have repeatedly stated that you must use only black ink but I am not clear why there should be a difference. I will have to look at my printer settings but as far as I know there isn't a "black ink only" setting. Would it make a difference if you used gel medium to do the print rather than paint? Also, what would happen if you brayered a thin layer of gel medium onto the plate before pressing down the photo? Would this enable you to print in colour? I am pretty new to gel printing and have a lot of questions! So far I have pulled some great background prints and experimented a bit with stencils. This process is highly addictive and soooo much fun!!!

    Hi Lauren, I was excited to find your video as I have an inkjet printer that I would like to use to make gelli plate prints. Do you recommend spraying the finished print with a fixative to protect the ink from the inkjet transfer? Maybe not? The acrylic paint you use does not seem to smear the inkjet ink. Thanks, Eric

    • @LaurenEverettFinn
      @LaurenEverettFinn 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It did not seem to move after printing- but you bring up a great point. To be completely sure a spray of some sort of fixative might be a good idea if you’re going to paint on top, and don’t want it to smear at all. I’d experiment and see if it moves. I just tried to scrub the ink with matte medium and it didn’t budge, so I think it’s probably set with the acrylic paint. (?) That’s my best guess.
