love how this went from the popular music of my early teens, to lil peep, about who my younger cousin exclaimed to me "you dont know who lil peep is????????????????" which, like, really highlights how the longer this video went, the less connection i felt to any of the songs and artists. a favourite of mine that didnt get a mention but easily couldve is Little Mix! Absolute icons, such a constant for me through most of the decade

I was lucky enough to be 20 in 1975 with a background of love for The Stooges, MC5 and The Dolls. I went to a poetry reading by a new name poet Patti Smith in St Marks St. She by added a guitarist named Lenny Kaye, I felt a new vibe. Shortly after I saw a photo of a new band featuring Johnny Thunders; The Heartbreaks who I feel was the real info ence on British Punk. CBGB was the next logical step with everyday being a Saturday. are I was most moved by Wire's Punk Flag LP whom I saw live at CBGB and The Cramps that opened the CBGB theater along with the Dead Boys. Let's not forget the 1975 Bronx inspired LP by The Dictators "Go Girl Crazy". It was great while it lasted and I am still spinning early punk and pre punk.

I feel like there’s much more to say about Adele’s 21 and 25. She definitely shown us you don’t need to change yourself to stand out. Her iconic ‘I make music for ears not for eyes.’ Is real. She also make piano ballads to No.1 and stay there for weeks. Of course her album sales and awards are crazy but i feel like her personality is very different from the artists in 2010s.

I think you’re forgetting that there is a third category that describes many of the bands you’re showing: New Pop. New wave was not all bright and cheery. Culture Club, Duran Duran, ABC, etc. were part of this new pop style.

"UK was a really important part of New Wave but I'm American" literally 95% of 80's New Wave bands are from the UK. Bro, I don't care if you're American, don't appropriate things, in the UK new wave was massive already in the 70s, American bands were more successful in the UK than in their own country.

IDK about your history. To me New Wave had a very specific sound that incorporated elements of punk with keyboards. Bands like Devo, Missing Persons, The Police, Billy Idol, late Gen X, The Cars, The Monks, Talking Heads, BB Gabor, The Payolas, early The Spoons, Tenpole Tudor, Trans X, Tubeway Army (Gary Numan), A Flock of Seagulls, Blue Peter, The Plastics, Peter Schilling, early Adam & the Ants, Tones on Tail, The Vapours, Japan (Quiet Life), Soft Cell ect, ect, What you mostly label as "New Wave" is basically just 80's top 40 pop.
