These surnames are generational - South African from Dutch and French Huguenots. As a South African, my maiden name is derived from Dutch (Erasmus) his mother was Grey (English descendant) and my mother's surname is Norwegian. From European descendants - we speak both English and Afrikaans including an African language. Afrkaans is derived from High Dutch -we are mostly bilingual. Afrikaans is the newest Language formed taken from Latin (many root words) also incorporating German, some Portuguese words. When I visited Europe, my Afrikaans came in handy while visiting Holland and Germanic countries. Some history about our rainbow nation.

Union is more global than League thou with Union talent spreadout World Wide while League talent mainly stems from Australia, New Zealand (though Union more populat there) and the Pacific Islands. League will be more easier to understand for an American as its more simplied and teams have a set of 6 tackles to score a try, similar to downs in grid iron. Union has unlimited tackles/downs and has special rules and gameplay tactics around rucks, mauls, scrums & lineouts. People may argue which is better but judge for yourself. I've played both forms of the game and love em both. Btw you have to watch a State of Origin match. Its when the best rugby league players in the NRL go off at eachother in a 3 game series. The intensity is higher than a normal rugby league match however watch a few rugby league matches before you watch State of Origin or you'll ruin it!

Rugby League is not a league. It's a set of rules which are different from Rugby Union's. So much that the two are considered different sports. (the closest comparison could eventually be USA football and Flag football, I suppose you Americans don't consider these two being the same sport, but still look very similar....) So nope.....Antoine Dupont doesn't play Rugby league. He plays for French international team and Toulouse Club, French City, best in France and Europe. (which Kolbe played for too. Together, with like 45% of the French international roster being part of too lol) He played and won the Olympics for the French team in Rugby Seven's. (7vs7 version) All this under Rugby Union's rules. (Seven's being a bit different since obviously less players on the field and shorter amount of time a game, but that's it, rules are Union's, still) I hope it's a bit more clear about Rugby Union, and Rugby League.

It’s not uncommon to find a forward on the wing if the winger cut in leaving the side exposed a forward who is covering from behind while the ball moves down will fall into place. This is a tactic used to give the backline some muscle when then run into defenders.

You can't have the same people all the time. They get old and when they get old they are out. Then you are left with a group of young players with zero World Cup experience. Look at Australia, Wales and what is happening to Ireland right now. You don't want a fresh team in a World Cup scenario. But play a few young guys with some of the vets, and then you can build experience in a well-rounded team. Remember the WC is every 4 years. Most of the Boks now have played in 2. You will see a very different team in 2027.

I think that you are only the second American I've seen actually watch and listen to what's being explained, instead of talking over the top and asking questions that are being explained at the same time! Thank you for paying attention! One of the points that this video doesn't really explain clearly to people who don't know AFL, is the scoring. I saw you looking a bit unsure. A goal is worth 6 points, as he said, and a behind is worth 1 point. When the final scores were shown, the goals were in the first column (so multiply them by 6), the points were in the next column, and the final figure was the total number of points. This is important, as it is possible to score more goals than your opponent, but still lose, if they kick a lot of behinds and you don't. Also, the 10 minutes of extra time can be added to each quarter, meaning that a game can easily last for 2 hours, plus breaks. As you saw, it's a very fast paced game and players can run 10 to 12 kilometres per game (6-8 miles).
