I'm Rob and this channel is all about my experience restoring my Australian 1969 Ford XW as a restomod.
I'm just your average guy who has a passion for cars. I don't have any trade skills and I just do this for my own satisfaction and enjoyment. I'm sure there are many of you like me who want to have a go and hopefully I can help inspire you to try it too.

hi Rob the long edge of the quater panel that curves down to the tail light that the rubber sits in can be bought from (the patch maker) in helensburg south of sydney. also the boot floor .
@@craigjones6887 hey thanks for sharing that information. I did buy left hand boot floor from patchmaker. I find it easier to get their stuff on eBay through mrsnowman though. No need to wait for replies etc.
Tidy 70 Camaro and what a awesome line up of detailed cars and variety at a high level Nice Rob wicked show

Where did u get your replacement panels
@@ashleyarnold9810 I get slot searching on eBay. There are some panels I won't buy because they aren't a good fit though. I usually do a bit of research before buying.
I have a lh torana I need a full panel I can't find anyone who can do a full panel
@@ashleyarnold9810 yeh depends on the car. Some are available and some aren't which makes it hard. Could have a coach builder make one which would be expensive I'd imagine. What panel are you looking for?
Lh side rear panel exactly the same as what u just did
My dad had this 2v 250 engine in an xy gs top loader. It had factory bonnet pins like the xw gt but small pins. It had the gs logo engraved on the glove box. Ive never seen that. It was factory my dad got it new. It used to chirp first gear into second and on a cold night second gear into third. Im not kidding. I used to race many v8s back in the day and stock for stock it would win most of the time. Especially to 60 mph. What a car it was. Miss it
@@mrporsche4236 Thats awesome. Very cool engine that isn't that well known about. Great to hear how it was in a factory Falcon 👍
Good progress Rob, looking forward to seeing the next update 👌😎

@@hugelavalava thanks mate. 🤟🏻
Nice progress Rob, my XW came up a treat with the new qtr panels. Are you going to attempt lead wiping for the joins?
Thanks mate. Lots of work to get to here ha ha. I'm not going to do any lead wiping. Looking to tig weld up the join and then use a fibre based filler over the top. Howard Astill has a video on what he does on show cars he's built so if he says it's good I'm happy to use his technique.
Great progress on the quarter panel👍
Thanks mate. I just keep moving forward. Thanks for watching.
Doin well Rob. I've watched a few of your vids, good info for the backyarder mate.

Thanks for sharing mate. 👍🏻 I’ve been looking at buying the same kit. I’m a beginner, but also in the middle of rebuilding a couple of ride on mowers into racing mowers 😉. Thanks again!
I would think that the 10 to 15 amp adaptor is a bit of a con because if you draw more than 10 amps through the circuit the breaker will trip. I have used 15 amp tools straight on a 10 amp circuit in the past with no problem. If they do come under heavy load and exceed 10 amps they will trip the breaker.. Any electricians care to give some feedback on this?
My neighbour is a sparky and we've talked about this. While he said you can do it if you modify the plug but you are at risk of causing a fire if the 10amp breaker doesn't trip in time due to the higher load generated from a 15amp electrical product. It's also illegal so do it at your own risk. Also insurance won't cover your house if you burn it down by using a 15amp plug into a 10amp socket. Not worth the risk IMO. I have had the adaptor trip just once since I've had it so worth the price I reckon.
@@robsgarage69xw You have some valid points. I do think that the 10 amp breaker should do the job though,. If it fails? Unlikely, but the 15 amp device has the same low chance of failing. I would say that running a 15 amp device continuously would be stupid and dangerous but would still trip the breaker before a fire most times. Running a 15 amp tool in short bursts has a negligible chance of causing any problems. By the book you are 100% correct. In real life there is a bit of leeway if you understand the principles and the risk. I guess we do live in a by the book world these days so your advice is more sensible.
Good to see progress on the shell, keep up the good work rob 👍
nice

@@WayneCook-r4r thanks mate. Best thing to just keep going and do your best with what you know. I sometimes see others show another way of doing things so always learning. Maybe that can be for another build when this Falcon is finished 🤣
if u tried TIG those same pieces on yur 185 DC machine how would they look in comparison to yur first time AC welds normal and AC pulse
@@TSIXGaming they can look the same. Only difference is this machine is way easier to get started and finished with your welds because it has a high frequency feature and of course this can do aluminium while the 185 can't as a tig.
@@robsgarage69xw cool man! i was considering buying the viper 195 its like the 185 but comes with tig gun and has the hi freq. but the 195 might have same issue with aluminum without AC tig or pulse mig :/

nice work Rob, looks clean as, I like the bully liner and it should be a good protective coating under there. I regret not replacing the whole quarter panels, it was a lot of work to straighten things out and would have been better off in the long run to change the full panel, I think. keen to see how it goes for you mate. thanks for sharing
Thanks mate. Appreciate the feedback. A lot of big jobs doing repairs on these old Falcons. I was originally going to do the lower rear quarter and repair the wheel arch but in the end decided it better to replace the entire quarter as it was already welded along the top which I didn't like. Cheers.
Rob are you intrested in selling your beige door cards ? if so please let me know asap.

@@RicardoMartinsAU That's great. Excellent team there. Enjoy your flying.
Hey mate, can I plug the converter in an extension with other plugs?
You could but generally I think it's not a good idea to use extensions with tools that draw a lot of power. Personally I don't.
@@robsgarage69xw ok, thanks mate, I’m still a beginner with compressors and I got that beast, lol. Do you mind to make a video or something showing how to use it properly? Like, I don’t know if once a fill the compressor I can unplug it and leave the air inside for days and just plug my tools and use it unplugged while it’s filled and if I should take the air out after each use and how I do it properly, cheers
Nothing on how the ark welder works
thanks for showing us your attempts. no need to be embarrassed mate, we all have to start somewhere. I'm going to buy one of these machines and its good to get an idea of what to expect (I have never welded at all)
Thanks mate appreciate it. Good luck with your welding. :)
Thanks just watched 👍
Thanks mate. Hope that helps you decide if you're looking for a Tig welder. Check out the range of welders cause there are a few options for newer models since I got mine. 👍
Thanks Rob, I have the same Unimig & want to have a go at TIG. What size tungsten & type are you now using …. Is it 1.0 or 1.6 diameter, ceriated or lanthinated?
Hi Wayne I've been using mostly 1.6mm mostly multi-mix which is pink top. I've just ordered 1mm LaYZr tungsten which I've heard good things about and might be better for sheet metal repair but time will tell.
@@robsgarage69xw thanks Rob I’ve heard 1.0mm ceriated(Grey) are ok & around 50amps on 1mm panel steel? ….. will lift arc be ok when tacking ? Haven’t tried any of this yet
@@wayneodonnell8847 I ended up buying a dedicated Tig machine with HF start. Makes life easier. I'm sure it can be done but I didn't persevere with lift arc Tig on the Viper 185.
@@robsgarage69xw I was wondering if I should do the same … the lift thing might be a pain ! … can I ask what machine you ended up buying for TIG ?
@@wayneodonnell8847 I got the Unimig Razor AC/DC 200 Pulse. They have since updated to a newer version. Have been happy with it other than switching to a ball float regulator.
Well done. I’m late to the party but that sounds very smooth, just the way it should.
This was kinda the way last weekend went for me with my 66 Mustang with the 200 ci In-line 6. The car has been sitting for 4 years. I’ve already checked/repaired the ignition, fixed a cracked vacuum hose, fixed radiator hose leak. Checked oil, antifreeze, turned the engine to make sure it was free. I pulled the carb apart and inspected (all good). It started right up but noise from the valve train and it idled rough. Then it stopped. It’s locked 😢 I will be pulling the engine to rebuild and hope the crank or rods aren’t hooped. I was planning to rebuild the engine anyway but was hoping to avoid that this year as I have other plans for it.
Have a look at chem sharp. Chemically sharpen your rods
Thanks mate. Never seen that before. Interesting.
I’ve got the same pray gun. Remember watching the gunmans video and bought 2 of the guns one in 1.3mm tip and one in a 2mm for primer and clear great guns
For these money I would like to have bluetooth to connect to mobile phone and have predefined configs for different tasks instead of settting those each time.
I think that's a fake mitutoyo product. Not genuine mitutoyo
Hmm that would suck but I think you might be right. Looking back there is no calibration certificate and the label on the box doesn't have a serial number.
Hard rock music? Moved on.
😊 Promo-SM
Rob making good progress. Can I ask what product did you use on the underfloor area, it came out great.
Hey mate, it's KBS rust seal.there is a kit called KBS chassis coater that has the clean, rust treatment and sealer in it.
Great progress mate, good idea on the bracket too. I ordered the 1440 diff and it looks as though the brake caliper will contact the leaf spring bracket, I think I might have to rotate the caliper unfortunately. Cheers Rob
Yeh I didn't think about the caliper because I measured mine based on the drum so I only just have enough clearance. If not I would have gone to a triangulated four link and ground the brackets off. Looking forward to your build update too mate 👍
