Sony literally Trojan horsed everyone bitching for an update. I was the main person bitching YET I never updated mine when it finally came…. Now I’m happy I’m still on 2.0 from factory on my A7Siii

I started searching for corroboration after I noticed weird AF behaviour on my unit. It's much more unreliable, missing focus and not being as snappy as it was before. Annoyingly, after upgrading to the 14mm 1.8 GM from a manual wide angle lens (Laowa 15mm), I'm loading up the footage in my NLE to find out that it's missed focus. Sometimes really badly. It's an issue I've never had while focusing myself with the manual lens, or using other auto lenses before the update. You can be outside, stopped down to f8 or higher (so the whole scene is in focus), then if you half press to focus it will then shift OUT of focus (all peaking dissapears etc), despite the overlay indicating a successful focus. This is usually easy to pick up on, but occasionally it will be subtly out of focus so if you aren't diligent it easy to miss. Very frustrating, I thought the upgrade would be an insurance against human error but it turns out I was doing a better job with a manual lens with a follow focus setup.

My camera lost auto focus as well, it stops recording and it’s is because of 3.02 update. How did you fix your camera? I’m thinking of shipping it to precision camera but I’m scared it will be very expensive :(

Sell them, bro. Get the tool you need. You won't miss the money, and you'll have the lens for at least 10 years.

If you are doing a lot of portrait work indoors, the new 24-105 f2.8 would be a great lens to get and don't get me wrong it is a fantastic lens for what it is. However, as a wedding photographer I have used that lens for a couple of events over the past couple of months and let me tell you it is a beast to carry around all day (and I'm not a small person so large/heavy equipment usually doesn't bother me). What I found is that most often I was pushing the aperture up to f4 or more anyway to get more depth of field for group photos (would very seldom use f2.8 unless it was just 1 or 2 people in a photo) because I wanted the entire group to be in focus. Most often I would find myself switching back to the 24-105 f4 just to get a lighter lens on the camera and I didn't need the f2.8 anyway (newer model mirrorless are so much better at higher ISO's anyway). To each is own though, again if you do a lot of portrait photography indoors where you need the extra stop of light, it would be a fantastic lens to get, otherwise save some money and stay with the 24-105 f4.

Not at all. Most of the time I’m at f5.6 for interviews indoors or f8 to f11 outdoors anyway. A cinematic look comes from the characteristics of the focus falloff, not the aperture. That’s what differentiates the Cookes and Zeiss and Leica and Arri cine lenses and justifies their price.

I'm new to your channel, TH-cam suggested ya! good job. Just curious why you're juggling both Sony and Canon? Wouldn't it make sense to just have one body system so all of your lenses work across the platform? as far as the 24-105 dilemma, I've wrestled with this myself. I just love the RF f4L but the 2.8 is so tempting. I rented one for a wedding last week and... it's gigantic compared to the F4L. not a huge deal except it's just a pain to transport. I suppose I'd build my kit around it, but I couldn't just fit it in where the F4 fit which was a little bit of a pain. And the addition to the 82mm was also a thing. the 70-200 f2.8 and 50mm f1.2, my other two main go to lenses are 77m like the F4l so that was a consideration as well. That said, the 24-105 f2.8 is a gorgeous lens with great results. maybe rent it and see how it fits in your workflow!

I just hate the overlap of focal length

Hi Tom - I have made a few videos on this and now I have my RF 24 to 105 f2.8 it has been stuck on my R5 MkII 95% of the time but it is also great on the R1 but I need to test it more on that before I make some video about it but all in all I I LOVE IT !

If you're shooting any type of indoor event, 24-105 @ f/2.8 could be a single lens solution. If you are using it outdoors as a walk-around lens, stick with the f4 and have a fast prime on hand for when you want a shallow DOF or cinematic look to video.

This is silly. A 24-105/4 will be much lighter, smaller and cheaper than a 24-205/2.8. So the answer is, of course not.

If you already have a 24-70mm 2.8 you're paying a lot of money for the 70-105mm part that you have already at f/4. Also it's a real wrist buster.

24-105 f4 is perfect for filming , you dont need 2.8 for this

whats the weight of the new f2.8 it looks really bulky...a definite minus for gimbal use

You don't ever say what you're going to photograph with any of these lenses.

Personally i say rf 24-105 f2.8 you just dont hwve any compromises with it. Best thing is to see if youbcan hire it first, then ypi know if it is worth the dull purchase for your line of work.

Ive upgraded and my bluetooth stopped working and after endless emails to sony japan, sony uk, sony eu…they all said i have a “broken motherboard” and its my camera’s fault..not the firmware… :) If we believe this, this is the situation…

My Sony A7Siii Bluetooth/Wi-fi malfunctioned after the 3.0 update. I contacted Sony three times after that, and they refused to fix it. I am currently using it without those wireless functions. All other functions are working okay. I was very furious after they refused to fix it for free, but I haven't switched yet. Switching involves losses ( I remember when I switched from Canon after the launch of the Sony A7iii. Canon was sleeping at the time but thank God they woke up from their sleep) and I am still examining current industry trends before doing that.

I also have bluetooth and wifi malfunctioning, it happened after the firmware update .. but i will not send it for update ,its a fantastic camera but also unfortunate what happened.. i am planning to buy new fx6 2 ,when it comes .. made lot of money with this canera .... happy and satisfied

I too bought and returned a Toprig S60 about 7-8 months ago because of one specific issue - i.e., when the slider motor reached one end of the track and changed direction to go the other way, there was a slight jerkiness that was obvious in closeup shots. It was more obvious when the parallax rod in the middle of the track was more aggressively angled than when it was closer to zero. I shared my videos with their support. They were prompt and helpful, but essentially said what I saw was just the nature of the beast. So I returned. However, I didn't see the type of jitters you have in your video. Yours is way too jumpy. There is something not right there. btw, I have not tried the Zeapon you ended up with, but I do like its modularity to have 3-axis control. I tried jerry rigging a 3-axis setup with the Toprig S60 and a programmable gimbal. That didn't quite work out 🙂 Anyway, I don't think it is fair for me to compare the Toprig S60 to the Zeapon which costs more than twice. Despite returning the Toprig S60, I think it is the best portable slider at its current price of $320.

Hi there, I noticed you mentioned that they only upgraded it to 3.01 after the repair, and it sounded like you were going to elaborate on this, but I don't think you did. Interesting video , I have the MKE600 and Zoom 6, Ive never thought to test this. I must admit I think the unprocessed audio is nicer sounding and more natural/less intense. Great Stuff Bro ❤

Lol when you said "This lens was made 4~5 years ago so it's OLD, it has old technology" that gave me a chuckle. Then I noticed the date was 2015 on release and realize I have lenses still being used that work perfectly much older than that that's AF and Macro :)

The small condenser mic sounded great in the living room but terrible in the kitchen so I suppose you have to be mindful of they type of room and the material of the walls. Bathroom and kitchens have the type of bounce that might not be good for a pencil mic.

Glad you love the 90mm macro. It actually is top quality as it was G series before G master was a thing.

Outside recording: MKE600 sounds boxy, MKH416 sounds open and clear with pleasant low end.

I am sorry, Bbut your processed voice sounds terrible on my TH-cam. The raw signals sound much more pleasing.

Do you pay for that background music? Where can I get some of it?

thanks for this very useful approach and tests - I use myself the MKE600 as a run and gun mic directly on my Lumix S5, so much better than any Rode or Deity shotguns, or the MKE400 - one problem : never forget to chevk your battery and put it on ! (it's automatic on the MKE400), but for my face cams or interviews, I use a Rode NTG3 on a Zoom F6, and it's obviously better with the 32bits float - but even in that case, I leave the MKE 600 on the camera to get a second audio in case of problems (not so often, but how to avoid...) - I also use my MKE 600 with the Lumix XLR adaptor on the horse shoe, it's wonderful with a tripod, but always risky because of bad contacts between the cameda and the adaptor if moving - a slight defect too : the dead cat non usable with the provided support if positioned on the camera : I see part of it through the lens (and the provided support very fragile )

Mines the same! No wifi/bluetooth. Camera freezes randomly and it won’t turn on sometimes unless I remove the battery and put it back in. Extremely dissatisfied

3.0 update ruined my bluetooth but once in updated 3.02 my Bluetooth is back

Are these issues on every a7s3 owner' cameras? I had my camera updated yesterday. When I went to TH-cam to see about what the updates actually provide, I started to find all of these videos and it's making me a bit scared. I played around with my camera last night, just recording my family, testing the autofocus and playing back the video and I could hear the audio.

I love mine every camera has cons but this camera has few and I literally can be shoot ready in under 2 mins which includes me opening the box. Have you tried any third party cine lenses since if so which would you recommend?
