Hey! Thanks for the comment! That actually depends on what you are planning to do on the car scan. Does it need to be accurate enough for reverse engineering? Or does it just need to be visually appealing for a VR project? Because different use cases require different technologies. If you need the scan to be accurate for reverse engineering, then you need a hardware 3D scanner. And I don't think you can do it outdoor even with a 3D scanner, you need to bring it indoor where lights are even and sufficient; If you need it visually great for VR or 3D rendering, I think 3D Gaussian Splatting might be a good option for you because it can handle reflective surfaces pretty well. And KIRI Engine is actually pretty good at it. Also, if you don't need to scan to be super accurate, the 3D Gaussian Splatting in KIRI Engine can even generate a mesh model in OBJ or STL or other common 3D formats, I made a video here, feel free to check it out: th-cam.com/video/ekxlGN3gUPA/w-d-xo.htmlsi=z8__ahHcIlI9ug55

Thanks for your reply! It's for a small tech demo, so something visually appealing is something we're after at present. Also, I am interested in doing some physics raycasting and adding decals, so I'm thinking something that produces a 3D mesh. That video you created is really useful, I didn't know gaussian splat could produce 3D meshes! I'm excited to try it out

Hey Nemo, thanks for the comment! Did you try the Photo Scan or the 3DGS Scan in KIRI Engine? Because if you used the Photo Scan, it also uses photogrammetry method like other software, you need to try the 3DGS scan :) Let me know

Love the comment Telencephelon, that's actually one of the greatest reason to still get a 3D scanner if you are looking into precise measurements of a 3D model. But tech today is advancing really fast, I'm very sure that in the soon future we can get precise measurements from only using photos

Hi TheTretistaKelverian! I've tested XBOX Kinect when I was in college, it's the worst 3D scanner form you can ever find. It only provides raw depth information, the level of accuracy is not enough for 3D scanning

Congratulations for the app, really by far the best photogrammetry app I have tried, and when I say "BY FAR" I mean it. The hard to scan items that I am scanning with the app look like they might be useable, I'll have a play around in some editing software and see how they turn out, if they work for me I'll definitely take out a pro subscription because it really it an amazing app, its like almost witchcraft how its getting this quality photogrammetry scans from my old cellphone.

@@Foadpoorbaghery Haha no worries. While waiting, I guess let me try to explain to you how to do it in words: 1. Use the Photo Scan mode, this is the only scan mode in KIRI Engine that supports bottom capture 2. When taking photos, try to include the entire object in the camera frame 3. Rotate the object in small increments and take at least 20 photos for the rotation 4. then flip the object so the bottom of it is visible to the camera 5. do another rotation 6. At the uploading page, there is a toggle called "Auto Object Masking", turn it on and upload the photoset 7. That's it, but if you couldn't get great results, that's likely because the object you were scanning didn't have enough feature points, you'll have to try on a different object that has enough feature points

Thanks for the comment, and the suggestion haha :) When we designed KIRI Engine, we were targeting a different group of users who don't have access to expensive computers or photogrammetry software, or they just would like to 3D capture on the way. That's why we designed this cloud-based app so everyone can have fun with 3D scanning. Another reason is that there are already very good 3D software like metashape or realitycapture that's available for you to use. So we don't want to compete with those software without having any differenciators :)

@@jackisbuildingkiri2997 Well i was thinking more of a non GUI software just to leverage the GPU/CPU for rendering, let's say for basic tier get the option to increased picture from 100-to more just by basically linking the app via a code and would need to be on the local network. i would think this would increase peoples usage of the app and also keep their privacy and their cost lower.

Actually we now do have turntable feature :DDDD When you use the Photo Scan mode, the turntable feature is the third tab next to the "Auto Capture mode"

I found out today that it has a limit of 300 pictures. So already it does not fit my needs. And the export process was not good. In Safari it failed. In Firefox it went okay. And the 3D modell is nearly impossible to rotate as you want.

Like I indicated in the comparison video, it really depends on what type of objects you were trying to 3D scan :) If it's an object with a lot of features point (for example, a tree stump or a rock) the end result from a 3D scanner app is pretty much the same from a 3D scanner hardware. But if the object is in pure color, 3D scanner will always do better job :)
