Liam, mate, I would suggest you go to posher areas( for shopping), and better hospitals. Honestly, Jaipur wasn't far enough from Delhi that I would have just gone to one of those big chain hospitals like Max, Apollo, etc in Delhi. Get life-saving care at dirty Government hospitals if you have to, otherwise please just go to large private hospitals, there isn't going to be a lot of rush there (because they are expensive by Indian standards), prices will be steeper but it is worth spending money on your body. Also please try to stick to larger roads/highways, google maps is going to get you to travel through narrower roads to save time, but anyone smart is going to take longer routes on multi-lane highways (that have huge dividers in the middle to avoid the exact situation you faced). In the end, I would suggest that you don't do these trips in India in the first place. India is for hardcore people, even the people who live here here wouldn't go on motorcycle tours here if they had more options. Your idea of going to the mountains isn't the best if you don't intend to stick to the most touristy spots; you might find yourself flung off a mountain and in a place where hospitals may be many, many hours away. You won't be saved by a helicopter over here, and the doctors you find yourself being treated by may be worse than the actual injury. Life is too precious to waste dying in a hot, filthy, dirty country surrounded by incompetent extortionists with shifty eyes. Your eyes may deceive you, but many of these people are poorer than the people in many sub-Saharan places, what you are doing is the equivalent of running around with big bags of meat and rice around a UN refugee camp in Darfur. I suggest teaming up with riding groups in India through social media, if you have white man syndrome and find yourself attracted to places like these.

It takes a lot of learning and understanding to ride a motorcycle in India . I mean the nature of traffic and the erratic ways in which it behaves , especially on single lane highways. For newbies in India always stick to dual lane carriage ways. If you have to travel in a single lane road be extra slow and give a good mile and a half to any on coming traffic or any lunatic trying to overtake. Never attempt a night ride on a single lane highway , way too dangerous with everyone flashing the high beams. silver lining is you will never have a high speed crash on these roads but of course you could end up under the wheels of a truck too . Wishing you a speedy recovery… lucky you escaped with relatively minor injuries.

Liam, good to see you are recovering and the infection inflicted no doubt by Indian hospital hygiene has been addressed. Hopefully you had travel insurance covering MC mishaps; the fine print on many policies have major exclusions. Ok I watched your Karol Bagh shopping spree for riding gear; I have one question, what footwear were you wearing, as tearing a tendon and breaking the skin suggests, and I'm not being an arse, but inadequate. If however, they were sold as protective boots, do share, so we can all avoid. Appreciate your effort to record this whole damn saga.
