How I Create 5 Complex Patterns in Substance Designer
As a Professional Material Artist with 5 years of experience, I have worked over many surfaces with different patterns, these are some tricks and breakdowns that will help you make more interesting material!
If you don't know me I am Ezequiel Delaney:
At 19: I started Graphic Design School and joined a Branding Design Studio.
At 20: I started Selftauhgt to get into the Game Art Industry as a Material Artist
At 21: I got more than 10K views on my art in Artstation, an 80lvl Article, an Honorable Mention in Beyond Extend, and my first job at an Outsource Studio for AAA games.
At 22: I joined Onyx Studio working at AAA Games.
At 23: I dropped my job to learn more about technical art and build a community to teach students about material art.
At 24: I grew my community to more than 600 people, started mentoring, made a full brand for the community, and got back into the industry by joining Fast Track Studio.

      @@mohsenbarati57 In designer the best way is creating the surface detail over the brick pattern you have created. Regardless it is easier said than done, so let me work a tutorial for this as well!

    Can you try creating this material, please? I like watching tutorials on this kind of material. I already gave it a shot, but as a beginner, it's not looking good.     you make it really interesting. Actually your channel is great to learn SD. I work in graphism/sportwear industry, more used to illustrator and clo3d. SD is difficult to master but it's a powerful tool.

    I think your channel is so underrated. It is super helpful with clean explanation. The phase is just right for the beginners like me. In my opinion, it's one of the best substance designer tutorial channels in youtube. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and please keep up the good work!

    hmm this is interesting but also kinda confusing. It just looks like a roughness map with a directionality to it. But im sure its not quite that simple. Would love know more about this from your upcoming in depth tutorials

      Hey! So actually it is not that simple, I only broke this down into how it actually works in real time so it’s easier to understand for those who don’t know the background technicality of it! Of course we see it on action as a directional roughness map, but in depth its actually reading the whole 3D surface where the material is applied to. Making the reflections of our roughness follow the direction and surface of our 3D mesh. This is as far as I got into it as I didnt want to burn beginner’s!
