My first welding set up was a mig 90’s Honda generator, that was maybe a 6000 watt(almost all the labels were gone when I got it) I fixed it up ran it and a Hobart flux machine I posted in my video about how to get started. But after I went to tech school I got a Lincoln ranger 225 built a little rig around it on a f350(nightmare of a truck constant issues mostly fuel related) but I never really ran it as a business because of the truck issues I kept having. Now it’s a few years later and I got a better truck and everything is more reliable and I can finally build my rig out how I need it, so that’s what I’ve begun doing.

Just found your channel, you got a nice setup going and similar to how I recommend people build a starter setup if they start up. One piece of advice from a structural stand point on something like this would be to weld the shackles to a square plate and then weld that plate to the trailer it will be stronger and less prone to ripping out of the trailer.

Thank you! I have not, the machine rips. Just recently we were out at a job site doing some rails and I had one of my helpers was on the flux welder tacking rails into place, other helper on the grinder prepping welding surfaces and I was on the stick leads. Multiple times all 3 things were being done at the same time and the machine never hesitated.

I would suggest running a more powerful wire feeder, to ensure you have sufficient penetration. Small mig guns like the one you’re using should be used on handrail, exhaust, etc. there will be a tremendous amount of force on those D rings, I would be hesitant to use what you’re using on them.

You definitely don’t need an engine drive welder, specially if you’re not doing pipe work or structural stuff. Smallest I’ve done is tacking a nut over a snapped bolt and largest there’s a few, depending on how you look at it, but either 140ish ft of handrail, 120ish feet of fencing around a home or 4 pergolas that were 16’x6.5’.

Not sure why you used such light weight material, 1 bang from a sledge or putting anything slightly heavy will bend the top tubes. I recommend welding a beefy strongback across the center with 2 new legs going all the way to the floor.
