Gary, I don’t know where you go to come up with these songs, but I sure enjoy hearing you play to them. What’s your story? I am a 74 year old retired school teacher/varsity football coach. I spent 39 years in the classroom and 45 years on the football field. As far as the drums go, I am self taught, but I have so many holes in my playing ability. I just play for my own enjoyment down in the basement. I like to play to Journey, Styx, Heart, and then I like some of the newer stuff that I guess falls in the pop category. Right now I am on a Crash Adam’s kick. I have a 10 piece kit composed of 7 Mapex drums, 2 old Star drums, a Pearl drum, and a concert tom. I have 3 12” toms, so I have to tune them all differently. I started playing on tv trays after watching The Beatles first ever show on Ed Sullivan back in February of ‘64. I then bought an old pieced together set for $100.00, before saving my paper route money to buy a brand new 1965 Slingerland 4 piece set. Of course I wanted Ludwig, but the music store only had the Slingerland. A few of my friends and I started a band and played at a lot of school dances before all but me graduated from high school and left the area. I was a year younger than them. I got rid of the drums and pretty much quite until around 2000 when our son got interested in guitar and wanted me to play the drums, so I got back into it with him until he graduated and went off to college in 2003. I slowed down a bit until a friend of mine waned his 1966 Ludwig set out of his house and gave it to me. The problem was there was no bass drum, and he had no idea where it went to. I tried to find one to match it, but I just couldn’t afford spending the money. At that time, I was only able to find 1 Ludwig bass drum that was champagne pink, and it was $800 plus shipping. I pieced it out and sold it on eBay for a little over $1100.00. That’s when I bought a 4 piece Mapex set and added more drums to it. It was only $400.00. So, that pretty much my story. If you would like to see a picture of my set I will text or email some to you. Take care, Gary and have a wonderful weekend.❤️🙏👏❤️🙏👏❤️

Many thanks for your comment Greg. I am 14 years younger than your good self and I am no where near your standard of education that's for sure. I have tried not to take life to serious, and not materialistic one bit. Being the youngest I would listen to music growing up from my older brother and my dad played the piano accordion, and always had music on. Never played drums until 4 years ago, to keep my brain active, and to give me something to do. My last 10 years was working at Nottingham forest football club ( English premier league)as the clubs mascot but it all stopped when Covid came and no one went to football. So I decided then time is against me let's enjoy life more, so I try and keep smiling no matter what. Love all sports horse racing, cricket, ice hockey, my city is only a few who as a major ice hockey team Nottingham Panthers. Lot of Americans and Canadains play who not quite made it, or have made it and going down the scale. We had brian mcgratton, he was good to watch 😁Have a good weekend 👍👍🙏🥁🥁

Boy this song brings back memories from back in the good old days, I was the biggest fan of Mott The Hoople. I had every Album LP from start to finish. I turned on my band mates to the band and we played a few of their songs. We went to see them live in Toronto, and Mick Ralphs had left the band, replaced by Ariel Bender (from Spooky Tooth) It was such a glorious time back watching the bass player, Overend Watts with his giant boots that came up to his thighs. Then after many band changes, Ian Hunter went out on his own and again I bought every Album he put out 👍👍👍 Here’s on of many of the Mott songs that I’ve done a cover of. th-cam.com/video/9C3s2zHpHgk/w-d-xo.htmlsi=pigkYLG_kcl3kPJf

@@Kingy-23drums , Yes it was David Bowie who helped them out with this song, your story is correct. I always joke that I should have used the name THE UNKNOWN DRUMMER 🥁, instead of The Tired Drummer because of my poor views. It’s nothing new. For a long time it did bother me, but after I hurt my back and couldn’t play for a month I started to just not care anymore. I generally get poor view numbers, and feel if I get between 50-80 I’m satisfied 🙂. I have another utube drummer friend, Drum Man 59 We can play the exact same song 🎵 and he can get 800 views and I get 60, meanwhile he just shoots from a cellphone and not to put him down but I’m a much better drummer than he is and I have such a better sound, picture and editing production quality. We both talk about this and just can’t figure out why this happens. I spend a minimum of 3 hours into every video that I’m putting out Ever since I’ve been using two cameras it’s added hours to my production. I didn’t know how to do this for the longest time , Earl kept suggesting for me to go this way, and I just told him I’m not tech savvy enough and don’t have great editing programs. It took a while and I have learned a lot, pushing myself to learn, I’m now comfortable enough with my productions. Sometimes the hardest thing is to get the music sync to the videos and at times it can take an hour, and other times one minute. I’m working with two video clips and a separate audio track, I do enjoy making these Drum Covers and it keeps my mind working to complete each video. So yes at times it’s very frustrating putting in all the work and making a good video and it gets poor views 😕 I enjoy watching my own videos and seeing my progress and sometimes I’m impressed that I played the song very well. In the beginning of 2023 I had roughly 200 subscribers, and now in 2024, I’m getting close to 1000 subscribers, and that’s my reward 🤗 It’s just a hobby , I’m having fun 🤩 and exercising my brain 🧠 and have a lot of utube drum 🥁 friends from all over the world 🌎.

Good Thursday morning to you, Gary. It is so good when I turn on my IPad, go to TH-cam, and see that you have posted another video. I do enjoy sharing in your passion. I recently started recording myself and realized I just don’t have what it takes to put out a quality product. I only have my phone to record on. I set it up on a music stand, push record, and then hustle to get behind my set. I then push the go button on my IPad to get my music, but only after a commercial or two goes. Then the music starts and all is good until I start drumming. This is where the phone must think the music and drumming are too loud, as it then automatically lowers the volume so it’s hard to hear the music. I have no microphones or any other type of sound enhancing tools, and that is frustrating after hearing the great drum sounds other drummer create on their sets. Oh, then the song ends, and I have to jump up and walk over to turn the phone off. How do you play to music? I just recently bought a used amplifier. I plug my IPad into the amplifier so it pumps the music out into the room. I wear a pair of musicians’ earplugs that let the sound of the music in, but they hold the decibels down. I used to plug ear buds into my IPad and then wear shooting muffs over the buds so I could hear the music over my drums, but I didn’t like the idea of the loud music driving right into my ears. Sorry for the rambling, but isn’t that what friends are for? Take care, my friend from across the Pond.❤️🙏❤️🙏❤️

You have different settings on it I just use auto. The battery is rubbish but I use a usb power point and it lasts hours when fully charged. Now with the music I have a mini hi fi with usb on it. So I put my songs I want to do on a usb pen from my pc, then put the usb pen in the mini hifi and select usb and the songs play. Hope that helps, have a good weekend. Cheers 👍👍🙏🙏🥁🥁

Yes in deed I remember this golden oldie 😊 I haven’t mentioned it before, but your room is very lively, I don’t know if you have any dampaning on your drums, perhaps I see something on floor Tom ? Your kick and Cymbals sound ok , but you could try something to take out some of the extra ring on the snare. The big brands like Remo and Evans sell , plastic rings that fit perfectly on top of the skins, they go by the size of the drum. So a snare ring is a 14” size … I will use them at different times depending on the song 🎵. You remember Ringo was famous for the tea towel on his drum 🥁 heads. I had the exact same problem with the room I’m playing in, it was just to lively, when I clapped my hand 👏 I could hear the echo. The problem was there was no furniture or things to absorb the sound. I only had carpeting tiles on the floor. So we experimented, by putting Down a thicker rug, added a cloth chair and it was improving. In the end we bought some curtains to hang behind the drums, there is no windows in my drum studio. We picked up Curtain panels from a bargain store in town and a low priced curtain Rod, and my wife installed everything, I can’t climb any with my balance problems. Please don’t take this the wrong way, I’m not criticizing you in anyway, just trying to help with a little advice, from what I’ve learned. I can definitely see you have very tall ceilings. Ok great job 👏🥁🥁🥁

Thanks for the comment TD yes the house is only 5 years old and as stud walls not brick. All the things you say I agree with and the reason why I haven't done anything is I am moving in a few weeks, I thought I wait till I get in my new home which should be finished and ready by the end of this month. It will have stud walls again but I am going to get some acoustic panels as I don't want to be moving again , this will be the 12th move in the last 40 years. I used to have Evans g2 on my Tama and they don't need any dampening. On this it's a remo ambassador. Was going to put my wallet on the snare but I got note in it 😁 keep smiling all the best 🙏🙏🥁👍

Didn't gene krupa use a slingerland, not even sure they are still about. In the 60s in the UK it was premier and Ludwig. I like zildgian cymbals I borrowed some of mate my who plays and as now gone to low volume. I don't know the price in USA but a pair of K cymbals are £550 ISH new, I just can't warrant paying that as no chance of me playing live. That was along gap 33 years, Yes feel free to send. Have you seen macs iron maiden kits they are fantastic. I do like mapex saturn kits, in the UK they are probably the best value kits you can buy.

Kingy23 play The King. The one is new to my ears, Gary. I think that in this song, you display the most orchestration that I have seen in any of your other covers. That’s growth, Brother. A Neil Young sang quite a few years ago, keep rockin’ in a free world!❤️🙏👏❤️🙏👏❤️

Many thanks for the comment Greg, I actually did this one 2 years ago , but I have held it back as I think it's not that good and will be waiting for the 👎 which is fair enough. We actually have ☀️☀️ today first real nice day this year but football and ice hockey season coming to an end. Keep smiling 🥁🥁🙏🙏👍

@@Kingy-23drums Gary, we live on the Southwest coast of Washington state. It’s pretty rainy here, but we are promised some nice weather arriving Tuesday with high temps around 55* and rising to the low 80s by Friday with a slight cooling to the mid 70s in the days to follow. Can’t wait. Take care my drumming friend.❤️🙏❤️🙏❤️

@@Kingy-23drums I think that you are looking at Washington D.C. which I on the eastern side of the U. S. I am in Washington state way on the other side of the country. We are the top left state. Wonhoff is in fact a European name. My father was born in Stockholm, Sweden. He came to the U. S. In the early 30s. I apologize for all the typos in my writing. The IPad I am using is on it final legs. I hit keys, but nothing happens. Oh well, it’s better than no iPad at all. Have a great week, my pal from across the pond.❤️🙏❤️🙏❤️
