Model Railway in Action
United Kingdom
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 31 ต.ค. 2022
Action from model railway exhibitions and our home layout, where you have the best view to watch the trains go by.
Also available on the channel will be some trips to heritage railways and other related interesting topics.
For our own layout we’ve not modelled any specific location and have not reflected any particular historic era, it’s just a selection of trains and other items acquired over many years. The layout is OO gauge with most trains from the major suppliers Hornby and Bachmann and mostly from the UK. We are currently adding a separate set of tracks and a new TMD all controlled via DCC which will keep us busy for years! The main lines are DC controlled.
Why not subscribe (it's free and helps the channel to grow) as we'll be posting further videos from our layout and from visits to model railway shows so hit that notification bell to be the first to hear about them!
We typically publish a new video every Monday afternoon with an extra video on Fridays at busy times!

Summerlee Model Railway Show 2024
The show was held at the Summerlee Museum of Scottish Industrial Life in Coatbridge and was organised by the Summerlee Museum. The site is well worth visiting despite the famous heritage trams being out of action due to a lack of council funding and resources. The museum is owned by North Lanarkshire Council.
As well as some model railway action we also take a look around the site.
We visited Coatbridge on 15th June 2024.

Some imaginative layouts. Good video photography with not too much camera shake and keeping the trains in the shot! Thanks for uploading.
Really glad you enjoyed the layouts and video presentation. Look out for more soon.
Green with white round the windows is typically Southern Region. We had one at the Epping Ongar Railway a couple of years ago!!
That's a great little railway, originally part of the Tube I recall.
Nice to see a Class 33 on display!!
Yes, variety is always good.
That sounds a bit of a sick 67!! What sound chip is it using?
It's certainly an interesting sound. Afraid I don't know whats inside making the noise!
Sehr schöne Eindrücke!
Really happy you liked them!
Brilliant 👍 👏 where can i purchase some of those rides/kit's like the waltzer, noahs ark and the skid.
Really happy you enjoyed the show. Afraid I don't know where to get the models for yourself. Maybe try some of the forums www.fun-fairs.co.uk/forum/18-fairground-modelling/?letter=K, or facebook for the fairground model show.
@modelrailwayinaction thanks for the reply, but i don't do fb. Great video like I've said. I used to work on the gaff year's ago for William percival and farrahs funfair from Sheffield.
meanwhile the bus to the same town takes 30-45 minutes, get it up ye stagecoach! 😅 as a native from leven its so much more convenient to hop on the train and it makes life a lot simpler for me
Great to see the people of Leven benefiting from this new line. Thanks for the great comment.
yeah. that's stunning trip~;)
Really glad you enjoyed it. Thanks.
Beautiful scenery!
Great stuff to see here as always!
Although I’ve been at these exhibitions I always enjoy your videos as I see so much more!
That's great Paul, there is only so much you can take in at the time and the rolling stock varies over the weekend too, that's why I go round the layouts a couple of times.
I love the Levenbank layout the best because I love the steam hauled express passenger trains!
Yes it's a great layout with a sense of scale being so large with just N gauge trains. We'll see it again soon.
Beautiful modelrailway/s!
Beautiful modelrailway!
Thanks for loving the show!
I was very interested in the first layout but unfortunately the focus was iffy
Sorry about that. Seems OK when I watch it back, maybe TH-cam was showing it at a low resolution?
@@modelrailwayinaction seems okay to me
That littleun we can hear is a budding engineman I reckon.
Good to engage youngsters young!
Good turnout for the show! Thanks for sharing.
Glad you enjoyed it. Looking forward to next years bigger show!
Nice weathering job on that CN unit in Springfield Yard. Enjoyed the video, thanks!
Yes, it looks great, and lot's to see on the layout too.
I loved the VW caddy pickup on Hillpark TMD, it's a cracking layout.
Yes, there's a lot of great things to see on such a small layout despite the trains being O gauge!
If I was doing an American layout, I would probably choose the Freight Shed at Shelbyville, Indiana because I know what it looks like and how I would model it.
Springfield Yard is a great little layout of a fictional location. I’m not moaning because my own layout is a fictional location although the actual place exists.
Yes, it's small but has a lot of industrial buildings and interesting scenese around the railway lines.
The green 66 isn’t quite as green as it mentions. It still has a diesel engine rather than being an electric locomotive. A Class 90 is much greener!!
Might possibly be running on some green fuel like biodiesel based on oils. Agree that electric is still the best though,
@@modelrailwayinaction True enough!! But would it not still smell like a polluting diesel locomotive? I wouldn’t count my chickens before they’re hatched!!
@@Madonsteamrailways Yes, I think you'd still smell it coming unlike an electric!
Don't tell me your a member of the GREEN PARTY haha,😂😂@@Madonsteamrailways
@@joginns778 I’m sorry to say I’m not!!
Every show has at least one American style layout with American trains and towns!! It’s always lovely to see them although I prefer British trains.
Good to see a variety on offer at these shows. There is another American one in next weeks video too.
Glenochil is a great little layout. It really reminds me of my last trip to Scotland and makes me want to return to Scotland when I have my electric camper.
Yes, always a good plan to visit Scotland. Ideal if you are lucky with the weather!
Did Mary Queen of Scots have an N gauge layout by any chance ? 🤔
Don't think she had the time as always locked up in towers! However I think she has a 37 named after her!
Why is a heavy freight locomotive like the Class 17 shunting freight trucks?
Maybe just helping out!
Did you know that the original British N Gauge was Lone Star Treble 0 trains?
No, I was not aware of that.
I always thought that sound was too big for such tiny locomotives!!
Nice to see N Gauge action!!
Yes, a whole show dedicated to N gauge only!
Beautiful scenery!
Have to agree, glad you liked the show!
Its beautiful!
Thank you! Cheers!
@8:20 How fast are those models going? . . . . .Too fast!
Certainly going at a scary speed!
Really enjoyed the video, brings back memories of my younger days in Kirkcaldy !!!
Thanks so much for your great feedback. Glad it brought back some fun memories!
Excellent video again look forward to you visiting us next year dates have changed to 12/13 April
Thanks for your great feedback on the video! Looking forward to seeing you host a larger show next year in the new venue. Thanks for the date changes, hopefully not clashing with other shows in the area, i.e. Linlithgow, although I believe they are looking for a new venue too.
@@modelrailwayinaction thankyou we are looking forward to it the plans are in the works already and we are the same weekend as Linlithgow however we have spoken to the organisers and believe we will complement each other as we did in 2023.
I was there driving on woodside Central
Excellent, hope you enjoyed running the trains at the show!
It happens here too!! There’s at least one American style layout in EVERY model railway exhibition!! Even the show at the Whitewebbs Museum of Transport has at least one!!
Yes, American layoutscan be found at many shows. Good to have some variety though.
Some absolute beauties!! And they’re so well filmed. Very exciting footage!! Well done!!
Thanks for the great feedback!
More wonderful layouts!! I love them!!
I bet that steaming locomotive is a Hornby model. Very impressive!!
Yes, that's right, with the new Steam generator feature.
Which 66 is the dark green one? Is it Evening Star?
Yes it is Evening Star. You can see the nameplate at 04:43 seconds.
Ashton Steel is a very attractive and interesting layout!!
Where is this show? It’s one I might visit in the future.
It's just outside Edinburgh. Next year it will be near the end of April at Heriot Watt University.
Fantastic video of our show thanks very much looking forward to part 2 can we share it on our social media pages please
Thanks for the great feedback, really happy you enjoyed it. Feel free to share anywhere you like!
@@modelrailwayinaction thanks that's much appreciated and thanks for tagging our website and st Mary's as well they will appreciate that.
There is so much effort in this
Thanks so much. I did build the little riverside station just to go with the train as it looks good in the Scottish scenery!
I especially like the Laurencekirk - OO Gauge layout because I love the two steam hauled passenger trains!!
Good choice! Yes, that's a great one. The long thin layout allows for pretty long trains to look their best before they reach the station.
Couldn’t make the event, great close ups, thanks for sharing 👍
Glad you enjoyed it even if not able to see the layouts in real life!
I’m noticing that more and more exhibition layouts are being given DCC Sound. This can only be a good thing because it both looks AND sounds more realistic!!
You are correct, a lot more layouts are DCC these days. Although the sound can be a bit quiet in large halls, it really does enhance the layouts. O gauge with sound are the loudest though and really impressive.
Where about is Scarlington? Or is it a made up name for an actual coastal location?
I believe its a made up name for a generic north east location, bit of Scarborough and Darlington maybe?
I believe the strange looking wagon on the front of the Pannier Tank is known as a shunting trolley. Am I right?
I believe so, not totally sure but looks like it assists with the wagon shunting.
