The tutorial was interesting about engaging the reel to keep it at the first notch in order to allow the live bait to swim. That was when I realized you are using the original American version of the reel. What do I mean by that? Well, is very simple, your Valiant 300 doesn't have a clicker. Some other Accurate dealers have asked for their own customizations to suit their customers such as color combinations as well as the addition of the clicker. If you had a clicker, you would be able to leave your reel disengaged at free spool with the clicker on. The live bait will be able to swim a bit and at most pull a little bit of line to sound the clicker. And once the bait gets hit, let the fish run for a few seconds then engage the reel at strike then set the hook or if you are using circle hooks then just let the fish sets itself.
