Excellent tutorial. Much appreciated. In terms of bump stop alignment, how important is it for the bump stop to hit dead center of the axle after a lift install?
Not critical. Stopped is stopped.
@@dpgoff-road1737 Sounds reasonable to me. thx
Great video!
Great install video! I have had one of these steering stabilizers and a pair of Terraflex D44 covers setting in my garage for a couple of years now and have just never got around to either project. The directions that came with the steering stabilizer and relocation bracket are not very well written or illistrated. Your step by step video is extremely clear and easy to follow. Thanks again this looks like a fairly straight forward installation and I will probably tackle it as soon as we get a bit of decent weather.
I had a 4 door 96 XJ with no lift that slightly rubbed 30x9.5R15 BFG AT KO in the rear during suspension compression/articulation offroad. Stock swaybars connected. It was a very slight rub that only happened occasionally. So I ignored it for years with no problems. I had a 4 door 99 XJ with no lift that did NOT rub 30x9.5R15 General Grabber AT3 in the rear during suspension compression/articulation offroad. Stock swaybars connected. The Grabbers were slightly taller and wider than BFG KO, but the Grabbers never rubbed. Somehow my stock 99 XJ have more clearance than my stock 96 XJ. Maybe that was because the 99 had stock tow package springs.
There are multiple factors at work in these situations that can cause this to vary, but my main point is that the wheel well opening size is larger on the '96 and older models, so tire diameter clearance at the flare is better on the older models.
Yrs ago autozone sold door molding for the edge. The chrome stuff Mexicans cover ther cars with. Anyway u can get it in black or chrome and extra wide. It would go on the whole edge inside and out glue that on and it forsure never coming off. U don't have to tho it also has double stick tape
I have a 1985 two-door Cherokee XJ with a 2.5 L in-line four-cylinder engine. It has a five speed manual transmission. I’m looking for suggestions on a lift kit for a daily driver. I want to be able to drive out to Moab and do some of the easier trails and then drive home. What do you suggest on Johnn kit and tire size?
Please call us at (316) 776-9900 with questions about suspension packages. Thanks!
Did you suggest a 1.25 inch adapter then a 2 inch spacer on each wheel?
No. The wheels in the video have a 6.25" backspacing. I ran 3" spacers with those wheels.
Will this kit work fine on the 2000 XJ with the low pinion Dana 30 or would I need to do a swap?
Low pinion Dana 30 is not a problem with these kits.
@@DirkSanders-wh8vv I appreciate it! I love your how to videos. You cleared up so many questions for me. I’m definitely going with DPG! Can you get the core 4x4 parts in different colors as well?
@KrspyKrmMcDs Sounds good! Yes, We can get the Core parts in multiple colors.
@@KrspyKrmMcDs Yes.
Do you carry Currie or Savvy lift kits? Also what do you think about Iron Rock lift kits? Trying to compare everything before pulling the trigger.
We do carry Currie, but our Old Man Emu Hybrid kits are in a class by themselves...
Thank you for taking the time to do this.
Just spoke to 4wheelparts today. I’m looking for a suspension for my 98 xj and they recommended a 3 in kit I’m on 31 with the cut and fold. But now I’m wondering if I messed up
Feel free to call us regarding suspension kits at (316) 776-9900.
Man.... I'd love to just come hang out with you and pick your brain!
Great video
😇 I'm not sure why, but I'm more reluctant to cut into my rust-free '94 2-door XJ than any 4X4 I've ever owned! I honestly wish I could just get over it. I'd love to be Rollin on 40's again! I'm currently on 32s with factory flares. I think the only reason I bought it and overpaid for it was because it is a "survivor"? I could easily fit 33's, but the 😈 side of me wants to go big!

I love these garvin racks i like the sport series the off-road seems a little too tall and is unnecessary to have the height in my opinion. I have this rack from dpg and love it. I actually have a smaller Garvin sport rack that doesn't cover the whole roof like this i replaced it with this one and my old Garvin sport rack went on my wifes cherokee. I hate gross looking rusty crap and my original Garvin rack is over 10 years old and been outside a lot and all over the place the only corrosion has been with some of the hardware. They use a black coating on all their bolts that is actually pretty tough but when it wears off the threads or gets chipped from tools the corrosion can start. I replaced many bolts with stainless recently i think they should use stainless but their black coating does work quite well. Im seriously impressed at how well their powder coat has held up in the sun and rain and everything over the years especially on my oldest rack. I especially love my dpg garvin rack. These things are solid. I swear i only paid like 300 dollars for my original garvin rack that goes for 900 something dollars now last i looked but i believe its worth the money because the quality is there nobody likes rattly crusty racks.
By far the best flare trim video I’ve seen!! Great job man.
4:18 Always gotta give it a good SMACK
I have a 1990 jeep cherokee Laredo I just saw you're video and I am ready interested in buying one of these 3.5 lifts kits

Wish I had your hands to do this it looks so good.
Are y’all still selling lift kits ?
Absolutely!
Hi great video by the way, just a coloured information I have been looking for so thanks for that, I have a 97 XJ. I want it to have a more Grece Evey stance, I have looked at several options from Davies Autosport which commonly use a 3 inch old man emu lift kit with 265/70/16 TYRES, this is the look I really want to create do not wish to trim fenderwells, my local garage have said they would prefer to use 2 inch lift due to the angles which you have mentioned before in the video, my question is do you think that a 2 inch lift will be enough to give me the look but I want, I want the TYRES to just a tiny bit wider than the fenders, I’d love to hear your thoughts on this. Thanks in advance Chris.
Sorry- Just saw this! This is a good convo to have via phone. Please call me if you still want to talk. (316) 776-9900
Great video, super informative. What would be your recommendation for a TJ with a 3-inch body lift running 33s? Will factory stops likely be enough?
Should be pretty close, but just have to tune it and see.
Watch2End&Comment
Great demo and awesome job explaining! Extremely thorough!👌
I have the same arb bumper and snooker on my xj. Love the look.
Did i just spen an hour watching this? What day is it? Worth every second. Thank you for the information.
Thank you for the video, I really like how you did the flare and agree with you about not liking the skinny flares, it just looks cheap to me.
Best cut video here. All these other hacks should take note.
Perfect, how do I purchase?
Garvin went out of business briefly and is now open again. Call us at (316) 776-9900 to order.
With that lift you talk about(old man emu 3.5” ) did you have to use a slip yoke and or a trans drop kit? I have a 1993 xj
Probably won't need any drivetrain upgrades on a '93. '96 and newer are more sensitive to vibes.
Please I have the same type and I want to sperk it like this,so how much will it cost me(jeep cherokee 1997 model)
Man. You are a good narrator I enjoyed it. I am in Aftican and I am going to do the same to my Jk.
Enjoy your advise and knowledge and thanks for sharing, Cape Town South Africa.
Mastery!
I think this is the best way out of all other ways to trim your fenders. Sadly - I dont have painted fenders and wonder how it would look with unpainted fenders. Hmmm...wish there was a video out there that did what you did but with factory unpainted fenders on my Willys. Looking in your website gallery at customer rigs - I wish you had one in there that wasn't painted to see it. can you send me a picture of one thats not painted so I can see the result before I perform this cut? Thanks for your time.
I don't think I have any pics of unpainted flares, but I can tell you they look fine. If this doesn't booger up a painted flare, it definitely won't hurt an unpainted one!
Skip to 26:00 mark. This dude will not shut up. His got a lot of examples of BS. Typical old white guy wanting to over explain and flex his knowledge. Welcome to 2023 get to the point Old man and get to it fast
Good job..doing this on the weekend..thanks for your video.
Is there a way to avoid cutting anything like fender wells and have the Ultimate kit?
Of course! Having said that, depending on what year XJ you have, fender trimming becomes important when fitting certain tire sizes. The bigger the tire, the more room needed.
This video would be so much better without the music
Agreed. Future videos will be without music.
Thanks god bless
Those flares look amazing. i just made a video of my Cherokee Flares getting trimmed. Now that ive seen yours im going to trim the JKs
Very detailed in the explanation. Great job.
Great video. I can't believe I just sat thru an hour long video. I'll definitely be ordering a kit. I want my xj to look exactly like the silver one. So sweet!
I just bought a 2000 XJ Sport. Its all stock. I am stuck between a 2.5 inch or 3 inch. I don't plan on off roading it a lot at all, but I want it to be capable of going there if I need it. Is there a big difference in basic dailey driving if I install a lift?
The new suspension will ride even better than stock!
Thanks Doug. I just picked up a’98 limited with 102k miles
