Bologna's Hidden Gems | Pt II - The Red, The Fat, The Learned
In the second of two parts, join Dr Jeni Ryde on a walking tour which explores Bologna's three curious nicknames: the red, the fat, and the learned. As we make our way through these storied streets, many of them covered by the city’s iconic porticoes, we'll view the city's medieval towers, visit its thousand-year-old university, wander the bustling market stalls of the Quadrilatero, and explore the triangular Piazza Santo Stefano - home to a century-old jigsaw of seven churches.
We end the journey with a four-kilometre trek up to the marvellous hilltop Sanctuary of San Luca, as we are treated with expansive views over the countryside and the city.
Jeni leads Academy Travel's 'Hidden Gems of Italy' tour in September 2025. More details via the links on our website.
