I like the new Cadians, they are 50% OG Cadians, 50% 2000s Cadians. Although I think the kneepads are superfluous. The Kasrkin and Creed being larger than the guardsmen have made them completely 'do not touch with a barge pole' to me. Such a brain dead move. I do not know what they were thinking. I see the new armoured sentinel as more of a mini dreadnought than an armoured recon vehicle. The shutters and armoured windows on the older kit gave much better all round vision than the single large forward facing vision slit. When you factor in the new sentinel's chainsaw arm and leg armour it starts to make more sense as a brawler and not a scout. I do not like the extra 10% by which it has grown either. Like the old sentinel kit was an example of adding detail where detail matters, where it makes sense, hinges on windows, windscreen wipers on armoured glass, a light on the front etc etc. The Rogal Dorn is... i just not such a fan. The hull front is too rounded and the nipple guns absurd. I like cast turrets but I cannot bring myself to like that which is on the dorn, I would cut the loader's hatch off and smoothen that side of the turret and give him a smaller square hatch more in the middle of the tank. All this to say thank goodness I have my Mortian Battle Tank. With a giant FW Russ like turret mated to a baby macharius shaped hull it looks 10x nastier than the Dorn and three times as nice. And more importantly 200x more Guard!

I'm primarily in favor of the Catachan Jungle Fighters although I'm also partial to the Elysian Drop Troopers, as well!

aaaaaand.... saved. good one, i really like it. its easy, its fast and it looks great. dont get me wrong. when you have a cultist on which you painted like ten hours and he looks like he could win 3 golden daemons in a row, its fine. but doing this for 20+ dudes? hell no. i´m crazy, but not insane. your paintjob is quick and still looks great, thank you for that!

A few notes on the baneblade. In the canon it is actually pretty damn fast so it doesn't really struggle with being taken out by artillery and aircraft in addition to being more than capable of keeping up with other armoured vehicles. It is also in the lore even bigger than the model is, so there is a lot more internal space for all those guns as the thing has two internal decks, three counting the turret. Lastly while it has no purpose in modern warfare, to the combat situations the imperium finds itself in it is exceptionally useful. Like if you are fighting enemies that deploy massive swarming hordes of mindless cultists, daemons or alien abominations, having such a staggering number of heavy bolters in addition to its massive high explosive demolisher cannon actually makes a lot of sense. Like against a horde of tyrranids an M1 Abrams main battletank would struggle a lot as it just doesn't have the kind of varied firepower needed to deal with big brutish monsters and hordes of decently durable infantry.

These newer models look like crap. Like any other random STL design out there by someone without any aesthetic sense what so ever. Make them bigger, pile on more guns, make them look more realistic and american. GW is turning into a toy company instead of a miniature manufactorer.

for starters i DON'T join the Astra Militarum, i join the IMPERIAL GUARD... it's like Eldar, they will ALWAYS be ELDAR to me, damn their name changes...... also i started mine with 3 baneblade units/varients optional as needed.... and i can use them as a detachment with my space marines too..

In general it's like we went from space ww1 to space ww2. the only thing I genuinely dislike is the new helmet, it looks like a baseball helmet and I can't unsee it.

It's all overdesigned, the sentinels were a step in the right direction by adding room for engines but the sharp corners were iconic for the guard, the infantry's backpack mounting system (the weird b shape) was retconned entirely in favor of straps, not to mention everything about the rogal dorn but I was fine with that, being monopose is my main gripe

The point of the guard changes was to make them look less authoritarian and more like WW2 Western allies.

New guard style is more sleek

I was just daydreaming a scheme like this, but I want the armor to look a little more black afterwards. Going to do their helmets, white with black corpse paint (blackmetal style) gonna Call my renegade Legion the sons of Northern darkness. Bonus if you get the reference.

Absolutely think the Dorn tank looks stupid with all the guns in the front. Logistically it wouldn't be able to carry all those in the space of its hull and all the ammo + loading systems for it. But not just that, it's just the presence of all the extra guns on the front that looks stupid to me.

The new sentinel model would work really well in a Tau army with Guard auxillaries.

While I do prefer the older Sentinel Models. I will also admit I do find myself liking the new models, they have their own interesting aesthetic and the rounded design is quite nice. The OGs were clearly taking more inspiration from AT-STs so trying to go for a more unique aesthetic is interestign to see. Plus I will admit the new armaments (especially the new chainsaw arm) are pretty cool.

Thank God new models are coming out, old shock troopers were built like a thumb.

Just started 40k last year. Went with the Space Wolves at first, but after finishing that army, I have now switched to working on a custom Cadian Regiment based on my old Army unit. About $400 away from a 3k point army lol

You have quite a nice army, I love the old shocktroops and sentinel models more so than the new ones... Basilisks and sentinels are some of my favs too. I'd add Valkiries which are my absolute favourites in design and functionality.

I hate that over half the pieces in the combat patrol have no instructions. I have had the worst time getting torsos to fit legs. Why can't they just cast the legs as one piece, the torsos also? It would be great if you could just pick your torso, legs, arms/weapons, and head. Unnecessarily complicated assembly

I don't like the new ones. I have only got the field ordnance battery to convert to my plastic krieg as the arms are similar. I do want some of the tank decoration stuff that comes with the rogal dorn though. They also don't really fit in with my old guys which is shame. Primaris marines sort of fit in with firstborn because they're basically a new design, however they're revamping something that was already good in the old guardsmen models and didn't really need changing and would kind of look out of place in my cadians.

I tried this on a squad of legionnaires and a chaos lord with few colour changes. It made painting them easy and fun. Thanks for sharing this!

I like the old guard stuff way better as it is very ww1 in theme where as the new guard is a more very late ww2 possibly moving into Korean war themed.
