    • @irondalebrewing
      @irondalebrewing 57 นาทีที่ผ่านมา

      Works great! The weather typically doesn't get much below freezing where I am, but the side of the garage where the fermentation chamber is located is insulated but not heated and that thing has no trouble keeping the temp up. Last year we had some sub-freezing days and it kept up fine. I looked into other solutions like a space heater or heat lamp but this seemed easier and safer. Figured I'd start with this and change to something else if it couldn't do the job, but thankfully it's working great for my situation.

    how do you find using the Rapt Pill???

    • @irondalebrewing
      @irondalebrewing 13 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I love it! I ferment in an upright freezer in the other half of my garage so the signal has to go through the freezer and another door, and it's not particularly close to a WiFi node, but there's absolutely no signal issues. For my next batch (which I'm probably brewing tomorrow) I'm going to switch from my Inkbird temperature controller to the Rapt temperature controller and change the Pill over to use Bluetooth Low Energy, and when you pair the Pill to the temperature controller the Pill then controls the temp which will be awesome. KegLand also just announced that with the Pill and the Rapt temperature controller you can leverage gravity velocity to automate things like ramping the temperature up or down as you hit certain gravities during fermentation (more info: th-cam.com/video/oVNjjFeZWxk/w-d-xo.html). I also just upgraded both my Pills to use wireless charging which is very slick. I'm planning on doing videos on all this stuff soon. In short, I love the Pill!

    Great looking beer! It does take a few brews to get the Brewzilla dialed in but once you’re there it’s pretty consistent. I have found that stirring it a few times during the mash will increase your efficiency quite a bit. Cheers 🍻

    • @irondalebrewing
      @irondalebrewing 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks! I was pleased with this one. Great point about stirring -- I stir about every 15 minutes to make sure nothing is clumped up, and because I can't help myself. ;) I was a bit concerned on this first batch with too much grain getting through the false bottom so the mill setting I used for this batch (Mighty Mill 3 roller) was 0.04". I have a couple more Brewzilla brew day videos in the works where I milled the grains finer and used a brew bag but still got about the same efficiency. Another viewer said that to him the shot of the grains in this video after I removed the malt pipe looked like there were quite a lot of whole grains in there ("It should look more like oatmeal" is specifically what he said), so I'm going to run some sacrificial grain through the mill and mess with the settings to make sure it's doing what I think it's doing. I might also mill my next batch twice and see if that helps. I wouldn't mind getting up to something like 70% but as you said consistency is the main thing. I did get a lot better efficiency (usually around 80%) doing small batches with a brew bag in a kettle, which is kind of interesting. Anyway, lots to experiment with which is a big part of the fun. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and for watching!

    So have you had a chance to brew with it yet? Do you still get dripping condensation or did it fix it? I have a similar dilemma, i build a new house with a dedicated brewery and have yet to install some kind of exhaust system. Condensate hoods seem to be the best fit except for the price...

      @@arneschmidt3445 Yep, sorry I didn't follow up on this! It made the dripping issue about 98% better, so definitely a win. Basically if I just wipe it down a couple of times during the boil it's good which is WAY better than before. I've since added a 65L BrewZilla that I run over by a window with a fan blowing the steam out the window, but when I do a smaller batch this has proven to be a big improvement. Thanks for watching!

      Forgot to mention -- I also started doing 30 minute boils which helped too. Just have to up the hops accordingly to compensate for the shorter boil.

    I did the Citra kit and was also pleasantly surprised how good it came out. These kits definatly have a place. For me, I typcally don't brew much in summer. I live in southern Nevada and its just too hot in my garage. So when I saw these kits just had to try one. Will be purchasing again.

    I’ve done 2 flash kits so far and all in all I like them. If I had to pick one thing I’d like to improve it’s the sweetness I get with the finished beer.

    • @irondalebrewing
      @irondalebrewing 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@CTP-bbq-HundHutte Do you mean you think the finished beer is a little too sweet? That was kind of my reaction as well, particularly with the I Heart IPA. I tend to like pretty dry beers though. If the I Heart IPA was a bit more crisp in the finish that would be a big improvement IMO but everyone's tastes are different of course.

    If you are filling pet bottles just use a carb cap on the bottle. Purge with CO2 first by attaching gas and cracking the carb cap open a little. Leave the bottle under pressure, connect the liquid disconnect and crack the carb cap open a little to control the flow. Simple!

    I just did the same kit and i had a slight issue with adding the full last two gallons. I ended up with 5-1/2 gallons in my fermenter with all the ingrediants. Especially after reading in the Flash Brew FAQ it says to top up to five gallons.

    • @irondalebrewing
      @irondalebrewing 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Interesting, thanks for sharing that! On the instruction sheets they have you add three gallons, then add the ingredients, and then add another two gallons, so it's interesting they have an FAQ that says to top the fermenter up to 5 gallons. You of course do lose a bit of volume from the trub so in the two batches I've done I found that if you use 5 gallons of water you wind up with pretty much exactly 5 gallons of finished beer, but seems like some consistency/clarity would be helpful.
