    Great looking beer! It does take a few brews to get the Brewzilla dialed in but once you’re there it’s pretty consistent. I have found that stirring it a few times during the mash will increase your efficiency quite a bit. Cheers 🍻

    • @irondalebrewing
      @irondalebrewing 28 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Thanks! I was pleased with this one. Great point about stirring -- I stir about every 15 minutes to make sure nothing is clumped up, and because I can't help myself. ;) I was a bit concerned on this first batch with too much grain getting through the false bottom so the mill setting I used for this batch (Mighty Mill 3 roller) was 0.04". I have a couple more Brewzilla brew day videos in the works where I milled the grains finer and used a brew bag but still got about the same efficiency. Another viewer said that to him the shot of the grains in this video after I removed the malt pipe looked like there were quite a lot of whole grains in there ("It should look more like oatmeal" is specifically what he said), so I'm going to run some sacrificial grain through the mill and mess with the settings to make sure it's doing what I think it's doing. I might also mill my next batch twice and see if that helps. I wouldn't mind getting up to something like 70% but as you said consistency is the main thing. I did get a lot better efficiency (usually around 80%) doing small batches with a brew bag in a kettle, which is kind of interesting. Anyway, lots to experiment with which is a big part of the fun. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and for watching!

      @@irondalebrewing I started out doing BIAB as well and did have to double crush my grains to get my efficiency up. My Brewzilla is a couple years old, V3 and I did have to change a few of the base values in Brewfather to be more in line with my setup. Grain crush is important in any system and yours did look undercrushed Anyways keep brewing and enjoying this hobby of ours and in the end as long as we’re making good beers that are enjoyable to drink don’t get too hung up on efficiency. Interesting, thanks for sharing that! On the instruction sheets they have you add three gallons, then add the ingredients, and then add another two gallons, so it's interesting they have an FAQ that says to top the fermenter up to 5 gallons. You of course do lose a bit of volume from the trub so in the two batches I've done I found that if you use 5 gallons of water you wind up with pretty much exactly 5 gallons of finished beer, but seems like some consistency/clarity would be helpful. • @irondalebrewing
      @irondalebrewing หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yep, I'm kind of incrementally headed in that direction, particularly since I have a couple of 7-gallon Fermonsters with no spigot and I was going to add a liquid post and floating dip tube to those. I've built a DIY Fermzilla at that point, although these still can't handle true pressure fermentation. When I first started doing things this way I was doing small (2.5 gallon) batches and the smallest Fermzilla is twice as big as I needed so modifying these smaller Fermonsters made sense, but now that I'm doing mostly 5-gallon batches I'm probably going to get an all rounder. That'll give me the ability to ferment under pressure and in theory that'll also make things a bit less complex since instead of having to swap out the blowoff tube for the SodaStream canister to do the cold crashing, I can hook all that up at the beginning of fermentation and just lower the temperature in the fermentation chamber to cold crash. I appreciate the nudge toward getting a Fermzilla -- thanks for watching!

    I have the TapCooler which is pretty much the same thing. You may have figured this out by now, but after purging shove the bottle up into the seal and then press the purge button AGAIN to pressurize the bottle. Then, open the faucet, and since the keg and bottle are at the same pressure it shouldn’t even flow at all, this is when you open the PRV thing up, slowly at first, then once you have about 2-3 inches of beer in the bottle, slightly twist out to fill faster (the foam seems to only really happen at the beginning of the transfer). Very little foam and no O2, I’ve had even hazies last in bottles for months. Cheers!

    When I did mine, I used a sanitized malt paddle to mix up the DME's "doughballs"...(my fermenter isn't so easy to pick up and shake)

      @@brucecampbell8355 Nice! Since MoreBeer said you didn't need to stir I went "by the book" but I'm sure stirring can't hurt. This all reminds me that I think this batch is ready to taste now! And since I still haven't done a tasting video on the Citra Session Pale Ale I'll probably just combine the two. I'll be curious to hear what you think when your batch is done!

    I just kegged a batch of this kit - tasted good coming out of the fermenter - we'll see how it tastes in a few weeks!

    What is the tube minimum length say for 250cc beer bottles

    • @irondalebrewing
      @irondalebrewing หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@michaelcatto8323 Pushed all the way in the stainless tube is 6 5/8" from the bottom of the silicone fitting. Adding the depth of the silicone fitting that goes into and over the top of the bottle, the total minimum length is about 7 3/8". Hope that helps!

    Does the bag say what malts are in the DME

    • @irondalebrewing
      @irondalebrewing 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Kind of -- it says "North American 2-row barley malt blended with a touch of Carapils malt" but doesn't get more specific than that.

    What if you used a spunding valve during fermentation? You could just set it to 1.5 to 2 psi which the fermonster can easily handle.

    • @irondalebrewing
      @irondalebrewing 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@draculasdaughter36 Yep! You could definitely use a spunding valve instead of the blowoff tube, provided you have plenty of headspace so nothing would come through your spunding valve. I keep telling myself I'm going to take my blowtie spunding valve out of the box and try this so thanks for the reminder and motivation!
