Van Halen "Fools" @ Piper Club Rome Italy 1980
Van Halen live in Rome, Italy @ The Piper Club 21 May 1980. This video was performed for a TV show (“Superstar” Rai2 TV program) aired on 04 Sept 1980 during the sixth episode. They played also “You Really Got Me” for this lip-sync performances. Eddie Van Halen plays the dragon-snake guitar (very rare). In a subsequent video Dave jumps and hits his nose on a low-hanging mirror ball over the stage. A 3 foot ball of light was lowered over the stage on the darkened television studio. DLR, unaware of this, made one of his famous leaps, crashing into the light fixture resulting in his nose being broken in two places multiple contusion and a possible concussion. This had them cancel the next 2 shows until 5 days later on 5/26 at Pinkpop where Dave’s nose is taped up. In memory of Edward Van Halen, one year without you (10.06.20 - 10.06.21) we miss you. (Van Halen italian fans)

I saw them five days later on PinkPop, with the tape on his nose. Some 35 years later or so, Dave would hit his nose again, in the Jimmy Kimmel show.

I love finding the obscure VH songs. I so wish they would release that w plus hour early recording with songs we never heard and diffnt versions of songs. Think itnwas called Zero

My first concert was Van Halen at the San Diego Sports Arena on 7/8/78 on the first headlining tour. I was 15. Van Halen (with DLR) is my favorite band. I like some Van Hagar stuff too.

Why the hell didn't they let them play live??? They were awesome live & musicians aren't use to faking it like this & it just turns out silly. Besides that's a live audience & they played to them all the time just fine.
Guessing they felt actual audio wasn’t good enough so studio recording was used.
Lip syncing to a recording SUCKS and it's well beneath Van Halen. This is tough to watch. Great song would have been cool live......but......no such luck. Just TV promotional CRAP in support of the latest released record at the time. I've seen Van Halen with Dave 3 times and then a couple more with Sammy Hagar......always GREAT "live"......but I'd have walked out on this one if I'd been there. This is really weak.
