Are these insanely light or did I get fake decants 😅🤦🏻♂️ I like the use of orris in these it’s unique but they are non descript. I like nightclubbing and black tie. But if I can smell everything else around me over these, that’s a problem for this price point. They need to amp These up or lower the prices and I’d say they could be popular. I’d recommend a Guerlain, Chanel or Amouage over Celine at this point though.
they’re not beast mode but i don’t have performance issues with any of them! i ended up buying cologne francaise and it lasts all day and projects softly.
@ black tie I smelled at the end of the day on my skin but extremely close to skin
How did I forget to comment on this video. I can totally see SMN as a sort of Hermes brand. Clean, pretty, etc etc. I definitely favor SMN over Hermes but have no idea why 1 brand turns me off while the other tickles the fancy. Hmmmm. Hope you are enjoying the holiday season thus far.
I want to try Russa from this brand. They redid all the bottles recently though, I prefer the old ones haha
There are so many I still want to try from SMN. I wish they had the option to buy individual samples on their site
@@zambowman definitely, there's one called Porcelaina I think. Interested in that one too
your videos always bring me joy. what fragrances do you wear during the holidays?
Good question! Might be a topic for a video...
I enjoyed the Santa Maria Novella set, although the ones I was most keen on were left off the discovery set sadly. I need to revisit the EDPs. Enjoy your whole take. Eris was something I grew to love slowly over years of sampling...I found them not growly enough at the beginning...but grew to appreciate it as I grew to appreciate lower volume perfumes/ simpler perfumes. And love Neela Vermeire. Very interesting to hear your take it it being more formal.
Yes, i thought half the scents they included in the SMN disco kit were random and lackluster... even though I really dig the DNA of the house. They have a store here in LA that I'd like to check out. My problem with the Eris Perfumes is that too many of them rely on the "growl." The whole brand seems to use a lot of animalics, which i like, but i think can get boring.
Oud & Menthe is probably discontinued, I don't see it on the Cartier website.
I noticed that. I hope not... It was only released a few years ago!
I really enjoy Neela Vermiere... The Sandal/Cardamom DNA is superb. I also expected a lot more from Eris from all the hype. Quite disappointed after sampling
@@ScentZatura Yes - the quality on the NV scents was high for sure. I think I’d like them a lot more if I lived in Paris, London, or New York. They’re just a little too dressed up for me I think!
you have been a sample fiend, haven't you? oh I definitely want to hear a deep dive into santa maria novella and eris. eris is such a strange house to me. I have most of her stuff, and yet I hardly ever wear them. belle de jour is the one that confounds me the most. it's nearly gross but so engrossing. love it.....bamboo harmony was the one beauty meow loved and I was tempted to go find it, glad to hear it's hohum, off my back of the noggin list of perfumes to try before I die.
Belle de Jour IS weird. I don't think anyone will ever be able to make me love a seaweed accord. Bamboo Harmony is ho-hum, ordinary, and unremarkable... but in the best possible way! I really love it for it's unobtrusive grab-and-go-ness. I was just wondering the other day "whatever happened to BeautyMeow?" Hope she is doing and smelling great.
Good morning, Sir. I like your style, I am in the cult of Cartier and very much enjoyed your excellent review of each of these gems. Your thoughtful and relaxed description of each fragrance has won me as a subscriber. My favorite is Oud & Santal, but my secret blend is Oud & Oud layered with Declaration d'Un Soir . In my younger days, I would collect many fragrances but my collection became so big that I gave them all away except for my Cartier collection. In my opinion, it is a gentlemen's scent, one of my female friends said at a party and I quote "Come over here you gorgeous man and let me smell what you are wearing today" . Thank you again for your non-hype review and I look forward to more videos, all the best Sir.
Thank you, Dave! Cartier definitely makes some incredible, classy perfumes. They're not like those other designer fragrance brands.
Pluriel has been re-formulated and it doesn't look like that anymore nor smells as good as before, you are lucky to have and old batch
So true and so sad!
Is moody boo still out there? I used to watch her a bunch several years ago. I periodically will cull out my subscription list. She must have gotten swept up in a raid one night. I’ll have to go check her out again. Hmmm, you describing the le labo aldehyde one makes me think that it is narcissus-heavy or at least recognizable. That note is so hard to pin down. Good job. This worker bee definitely wears most of what I show on my channel. Nah that’s not true, I try to limit the heavy dark stuff and jasmines. Although sometimes I’ll cave if I’ve got 4+ hrs before I know anyone will start rolling in. weirdly when I want to pull a safe frag out, I think of Frost by st Clair as being non offensive. Probably just because 1 person long ago said it was nice.
Moody Boo is still making videos! The florals in A44 are hard to place, almost giving me "field of wildflowers" vibes. And I definitely know what you mean when it comes to avoiding certain fragrances at work. It's a catch-22 because an 8 hour day at the office is the ultimate proving ground for a perfume!
Nah, she's long gone. I heard she was abducted by blue-haired aliens and now rules her own planet in the Andromeda Galaxy. They call her Empress Scentanilla!
@ LOL
Do you think Iris Poudree is a good alternative to Le Labo’s Iris 39? I remember you mentioning that it was discontinued. I’m too lazy to pull out my samples. This FM brand underwhelmed me, as well, after finally deciding to get the discovery sets which from what I remember only ever affordably came out after they’ve been sold to Estee Lauder. I got the 6m and 6f sets where PoaL was repeated. My impressions were like you, mostly masculine, but also felt like they were for an old intellectual gentlemen’s club kind of way. Love Carnal Flower myself for the greenness, but the rest…Musc Ravageur was just sweet musc vanilla amber gourmand and I seem to be forcing myself to like Portrait of a Lady but I can’t. Ummm, Geranium is as they say toothpaste.
Glad i’m not alone in thinking they are trying too hard to appeal to men. Iris Poudre is beautiful, and I probably prefer it to Iris 39. They have many similarities, but Iris 39 is VERY sweet and also extremely animalic. I’m glad I own it because it is an oddball and discontinued but I will probably only wear it a few times a year. I can send you a decant if you’re curious.
Ur overall opinion-high end spa, leaning towards male acceptance etc is why I haven’t sought them out (beyond the couple that I blind bought early on). I suspect reformulation has destroyed the ‘best’ ones. At least that’s the way I feel about my portrait. Ur cucumber sandwich and Alice n wonderland references were both poetic and laugh inducing- exactly why more folks should be watching ya. …haha ur last thought about not trying all I immediately started singing rage against the machine
I feel as though I was too hard on them. They're not bad, they're just not my style!
Ugh I keep trying to watch this but I keep falling asleep at night and work is busy. Hahaha. I’m looking forward to hearing your thoughts.
12 !!...Great Set to get, Z-Man. I would venture to say that, with just 2ml ea., full opinions cannot be permanently formed...Enjoy.
Not even! They are a paltry 1.2ml per vial. 😂 Still had fun sniffing them though. hope all is well in the aloha state 🌊🏝️
Hey, enjoyed the vid! That’s really interesting to hear the Xinu store was so packed!
@@cheapimitation2242 the people demand perfume!
They just use .001% of oud
@@mattl7424 whatever they’re using it smells great!
Thanks for sharing your thoughts. Something about your descriptions reminds me of Arquiste, which also shares the same perfumer. Arquiste also has strong Mexican influences but I don't remember seeing any mention of any unique naturals...it sounded more like recreated accords to me. Wonder if the perfumers are restricted to a certain ingredient palate in the lab. I remember Lolascents covering Xinu in the past. I wanted to get samples back then but I think I forgotten about them eventually (in the ocean of thousands of releases).
@@gunmetal2445 i have wanted to try Arquiste, but they have always fallen somewhere near the back of the line of wants. i think they are also the folks behind the “Vacation” perfume - which i liked. The Xinu perfumes are very skillfully done. even if they are not made with mexican materials, they do a great job paying homage to the country.
Yes! BS marketing. Inauthenticity is a deathknell for me. Hah four seasons- perfect description
Great description with the four seasons hotel. Ummo is my favorite I think… & these droppers are great and a nice change compared to all other brand’s presentation. May buy a secondhand bottle way down the line but I just don’t see how adding any of these will improve my collection. Cheers!
glad i had your video to watch while i was testing ‘em! yea, none of them are groundbreaking but i think they are very thoughtful and well done.
Cartier. ❤❤
I hope your altitude sickness gets better. Did you try dramamine???? you just need to get the NON DROWSY or you’ll be sleeping! Anywhooo.. I have a Lush across the street from me so I will have to try Salty!
Haha thanks for watching my ramble chats!
@@skinscentsforfusspots thanks for making ‘em!
awesome love to see your scents reviews
ça va mon ami. hope all is well in MTL
Did you take any altitude medication in Mexico City? I went to Machu Picchu and was taking some altitude sickness meds and that made me unable to taste any food. Now I wonder if the meds + the high altitude itself did a one-two punch on my taste buds. At the time I wasn't into fragrances so didn't pay attention to my sense of smell or how it was functioning.
@@deluxelex9056 nope! i didn’t anticipate having ill effects until i got there. they were very mild though; mexico city is at 7500 feet. can’t imagine how I would have felt in Macchi Picchu!!
Hey Sam. Looks like your nose has been busy. I sampled Benjoin 19 and found it inferior to another designer patchouli fragrance I already have. Cartier Oud & Rose is a tough wear that can come across as a diaper. Currently I'm enjoying Lancome Miracle Homme which is perfumey and musky that smells addictive in the air and the morning after. Testing out a Kilian STH Extreme clone for a month now and it's turning into a full bottle soon. Backed up a bottle of Dior Leather Oud. Once I find a backup of Feve Delicieuse the Dior brand is dead to me lol.
@@markjacoby5607 yes, the oud & rose is challenging, but i truly love it when i’m wearing it out and about, not sitting around my apartment, stewing in my own cartier funk. i have heard a few people say that lancome is nice. still don’t think i’ll ever be into the more boozy By Kilians. Leather Oud sounds like an expensive and rare find… congrats!! My favorite from the Privée line is Jasmin Des Anges.
STH Extreme is like cool mint chocolate chip in the opening then dries to a white chocolate wet woody patchouli on my skin. Not too sweet like the other boozy offerings from the house. Miracle Homme is natural smelling like second skin. I lucked out on a sale with the Leather Oud. I have tried a clone of Leather Oud and it was 98% similar to my 2012 bottle for 1/20th of the price so I probably don’t need a 3rd bottle for this lifetime. My Cartier Oud & Rose only comes out during the winter… once.. when it is sub 10 degrees for daytime outdoors lol.
@@markjacoby5607 I'm guessing your collection is a smidge larger than mine, but I totally know the feeling of those fragrances we have with VERY specific use cases 🤣
I loved this meandering all over the place video.....I always think of you as a le labo man. I might need to change that to a cartier man.....oooh I think I know why bombay bling was not what you expected. I'm pretty sure it wasnt bombay bling. I think I gave that one away because it had tuberose in it (during a time when I HATED tuberose) I had an extra one, maybe neral, or something like that, so threw it into the box with the rest....yes I like copala from xinu- your scent memory of that rainstorm in mexico city is definitely something to cherish....a boy in an italian graveyard stealing things! hahah, those are the best types of associations.....cheers, my dear.
@@kellylyons7611 I could wear Cartier and Le Labo every day! but I am trying to be a more adventurous boy. I checked the vial - it was Bombay Bling! Do you find the Xinu fragrances to be a little too synthetic, too? I know i do, but I seem to enjoy them anyway, for now.
@@zambowman really? Well hell now I’m curious which ones are in the box. Haha……copala being synthetic? Hmmm, I don’t remember that aspect to it- granted, I probably haven’t worn it in probably 2 years. I’ll dig into my closet and report back.
I see you say you like more fem-leaning fragrances, try Tom Ford Beau de Jour to see if you like that one, that one is very sharp fresh masculine lavander fougere, i love that one a lot
@@SPACEDOUT19 i do like beau de jour! i find that one pretty unisex though. it’s the über masculine releases that are a tough sell for me… think PDM or Aventus.
oud & santal is beautiful, signature scent worthy but VERY mature, anybody under 35 would feel they smell like an elder 😂 35 & up, go buy it 😍
How would you rate the projection on oud and santal and oud and oud
@@alwangarnvwa4744 oud & santal is extremely loud. Oud & Oud is moderate but with excellent longevity.
@@zambowman thanks!
‘Smells like terracotta’. I hate when folks use the word evocative when talking about perfume. Not sure why, But how evocative.
What a splendid treat-Wendi and zambowman postings on the same day after being away for a while. Such a sophisticate-world traveler extraordinaire.
@@kellylyons7611 I loved Wendi’s Goutal video! Hadn’t felt inspired to make videos for a while, but these four really deserved a shout. Now it’s YOUR TURN 😝
@@zambowman hahah, I definitely thought that last night. But I’m still battling this stupid Covid. It’s been a whole damn month. I’m so over it.
@@kellylyons7611 💔 sorry to hear that. the good news is: everything will smell new again when you’re better!
Is Oud and Rose the same scent as Oud and Pink?
They are not the same, but they are VERY similar. If you have one, you don't need the other.
I just found Fleur d'Oranger 27 for 99 euros on Parfumo, gonna blind buy just cause the price is so good
Cartier offers high quality perfumes.💥💥
I ❤❤Cartier.
Ylang 49 = Noir de Noir on steroids, all i get from it is Noir de Noir
Nice choices! I’m a guy wearing Private Collection right now. Love it! Have you tried the Malle update Private Collection Legacy collection? Also good.
I actually have to go by Neiman Marcus today for a return and will give it a sniff. Hard to imagine something better than the original!!
For me oud and amber
Oud & Ambre has definitely grown on me the more I've worn it.
I tried Gaiac today. It has that general Le Labo smell, their signature fresh woods and their musk
recently bought a 15ml, and it's signature worthy imho. It's not the most original or complex, but it's executed per-fect-ly.
Great collection! I don't think I've seen anyone else talk about Vetiver Veritas. I've gotta get a decant to test out this summer. Escale en Haiti is beautiful as well-- the light but resinous myrrh really sets it apart. I always associate vetivers with summer but Escale en Haiti reminds me of a crisp, foggy morning.
Spot on with the Escale en Haiti - cold air is exactly the feeling I get from it. Vetiver Veritas is just as satisfying, but in a completely different direction... earth, grass, clay. It's super refined but also a little brutal.
Can you buy me Dune? ilI loved the old but love the new too.I can’t afford it but would love it. Perfume only lasts 3 years and its gross when expired.
Could you speak on the difference between Oud and Rose and Oud and Pink?
I haven't gotten my nose on Oud & Pink unfortunately!
Great pick-ups! I really gotta smell those Cartier Ouds.. that's been the most recommended last year.
Thank you! Yes, totally worth a sniff.
Great haul 😊 Des cendres on my wishlist too 😍
Thank you! I'm definitely glad I bought Des Cendres. It's beautiful 💚
Hi Sam. I agree Cartier Oud & Rose is a tough wear. I think I’ve worn it only a handful of times. I think L’Heures IV is the only one worth repurchasing for the horse saddle leather. Like your Kiehl’s I didn’t find the recent formulations of Muscs Koublai Khan to be dirty at all. My sample reminded me of Prada Double Dare with a little bit of culinary cumin. I’ve been wearing light florals for the spring. My spring trifecta has been vintage MM Flower Market, M/Mink, and Encens Mythique layered together. On my nonfloral days I’m finally making dents in my TF Lavendar Palm and Hermes Vanille Galante. They were forgotten among the collection. My recent pickups have been LV Mille Feux (my only female LV) , LL Iris 39 (discontinued FOMO), Nicole Miller For Men / Riviera Concepts (musty version of vintage Chanel Allure Homme), Loewe El 8 de Gran Via (backups), Le Male Pride 2023 (juicy light citrus popsicle for the gym), and Ruehl R-7 Cologne (nostalgia).
Glad to know I’m not the only one who is grappling with Oud & Rose. You’ve got some great picks in your spring rotation. I am actually wearing Le Labo’s Iris 39 today. Just 3 sprays since it is a powerhouse on my skin. A very unique fragrance - I am glad I have it now that it is discontinued. I heard Ambrette 9 is also getting the axe.
Stargazer lily = meaty? Do what? Watchoo talking about Willis? (Please tell me you get the reference). Never in a a million years would I classify lilies of any variety like that. Hmmm, I wonder if that’s one of the male/female white floral experiences that seem so different. Man, belle ame is gourmand to you? Do actual gourmands send you into diabetic coma? I think you may have started a trend. I’ve been seeing Cartier everywhere these days.
LOL of course I get the reference! Re: lilies - I said what I said 😂 I think lots of people have strong reactions to lilies. and YES i thought Belle Ame was a full on gourmand cookie fragrance!
Diferent a eau de toilette?? 😍
Oui! Plus naturel, plus frais. merveilleux.
