A scuba dive at Justins Caves, Oudekraal in February.
It was low tide which meant crawling over the kelp in full scuba kit or a long surface swim. We ended up doing the swim.
Luckily the SE wind had brought with it the clear and cold water (10degC) we had hoped for.
This dive site is particularly colourful with a vast array of soft corals, anemones, urchins, sponges and seaweeds.
We ventured through the swimthroughs and then headed NW towards one of the three Het Huis te Kraaiestein anchors (wrecked in 1698). This huge anchor lies at around 14m deep and is always fun to navigate to, once successfully found!
A bit of strong surge caught us all by surprise just as we were moving back east through the big boulders.
Recovered from the excitement, we then continued back towards the shore, struggling again through a mat of tangled kelp at low tide!
Once out of the water, it was time to make our way up, over and through the rocks, and finally climbing the steep, gravel path back to our vehicles parked on the road.
As a buddy commented "Who needs the gym, when you get to dive here!?"
