Epic Portsea and Sorrento Fishing Adventure! | Soft Plastics Fishing
Only a hour and a half drive from Melbourne along the Mornington Peninsula Freeway, Portsea and Sorrento areas teem with an abundance of fish species with plenty of big fish to catch. This coastline contains crystal clear water with a stunning backdrop during any weather conditions. In this video, my good mate Tommy and I are heading on the boat to target flathead on soft plastics. These saltwater lizards are a lot of fun on soft plastics and light gear so get ready for a incredible session in the southern part of Port Phillip Bay. Don't forget to like, comment and most importantly subscribe as well as hitting the bell icon to stay up to date with my fishing adventures.

Land Based Salmon and Flathead Fishing!
มุมมอง 26914 วันที่ผ่านมา
Land based fishing is super exciting and fun to do as it can be very rewarding when the conditions are in your favor. It does come with it difficulties including structure and fishing in a confined area but who cares when you can catch loads of fish in a short time span. Tommy and I have headed to the tiny pier again for a short 3 hour session. Our target being flathead and pinkies and hopefull...

Light gear, small hooks, two rods and yabbies for bait, native fish species living in this urban river aren't scared to scream a few reels. The Maribyrnong River has provided me with many incredible fishing experiences, just like the one in todays video. Sit back, relax and enjoy the fishing!
Maribyrnong River Fishing at Flemington Racecourse

The Maribyrnong River is home to plenty of big and healthy fish including Bream (silver and black), Estuary Perch, Australian Bass and the odd Pinkie. Using only bass yabbies for bait, my plan of attack is to target some huge bream and estuary perch.

Hey good stuff man. Good on you for looking after the fish. On ya mate. 👍
Thanks so much for the kind words. I always try to do my best.
Where do you get the yabbies?
From Douglas Parade Bait and Tackle.
Bro i have fished here so many times and caught nothing
You must go on a run in tide and try casting in different spots. Trust me, I have gone many sessions and caught nothing. Just persist and it will pay off.
@ thanks mate ill keep chasing my first fish in the maribyrnong!
@skibshot Good mate
Hey mate, would you reccomend fishing around that far out near portsea pier on a small kayak?
Yes 100%, just go either early mornings or late afternoons when the boat traffic eases down. That was why we headed to deeper water near sorrento cause it was super difficult. I reckon during winter it will be a good fishing spot, especially for big squid. Good luck mate!
@@FishingDownUnder1 thanks mate, I may give it ago this weekend with some soft plastics and bait. I'm also gonna give some of the smaller beaches like settlement or tideways a shot for flatties
Well I hope you get some, I wouldn’t be surprised if you pick up some short fin pike/snook in those weedy areas chucking out some pilchards and even plastics. Fingers crossed that your trip goes well 🤞
Loved the video FDU! Keep up the awesome content such a great watch! You and your mate make a great team ! I love the teamwork keep up the good work and keep uploading!
Couldn’t have a better crew member than him. Does my head in sometimes 😂 but he’s learning. Thanks champ!
The other guy, blonde bloke, is cooked has no idea. Good job boys 👏
Haha, he thought someone might bring up his skill level. Thanks mate!
You ripper well done lads
Thanks so much mate
What set up and bait are you running?
Running sinker from memory. I was using blue bait and pilchards. Hopefully you catch some!
Bait used?
Pilchards and squid
what you call the the salmon are actually bay trout and tommy ruff there’s no legal size for them
Bay trout are just juvenile salmon, completely different from tommy rough. Tommy rough only grow to about 6-8 inches whereas the bay trout turn in salmon. So yes, tommy rough have no legal size but the bay trout have a minimum legal size.
i’m fishing they’re today any tips.
use a running sinker but just tie the hook to the main line and the sinker above it (ball sinker). Pilchards and blue bait are your best bet and try dropping it under the pier cause the trevally swim around there.
Can you eat the fish you catch? :)
Personally, I wouldn’t eat the bream or estuary perch from there. However, if you managed to catch pinkies that were really colourful and healthy, I don’t see why you couldn’t keep a few of those if you wanted to. Hope that helps.
Let’s go always on the board keep it up love the videos my bro👍🏿
Cheers mate 👍
Great vid mate! And good stuff taking the parasites off that EP keep it up
Thanks mate the support is greatly appreciated!
Ay bro nice catch where do you get your bass yabbies??
Cheers mate! I buy my bass yabbies from douglas parade bait and tackle, hope you can get some quality bream and estuary perch.
@ thank you been struggling to find a bait and tackle that sells them
nah all good mate
Where abouts in bright was this I’m fishing in bright now and it’s flowing so hard
Yeah that sucks. When the Ovens is flowing that hard it be difficult to fish anywhere. I was fishing down stream from the Bright Riverside Holiday Park (fishing the same side). If you follow the trail, you’ll come across some of the spots seen in my video. I hope that helps and fingers crossed you can catch a few decent trout.
@ yeah thanks I’ve managed to get 1 in the fast flowing water, the people on the tubes are making it hard also
Yeah, don’t worry it took me two days to get my first one. Your probably doing better than me 🤣
The top of Westernport Bay is home to many estuaries with the main ones being Warneet and as seen in this video, Tooradin. They are home to some big fish including huge Trevally and the elusive Mulloway. I’d love to hear your favourite fish to target within these estuaries across Victoria and what bait they love to take. As always guys, I cannot thankyou more for the support and the kind comments left in my videos. Thanks everyone!
I’m always wanting to experiment when out on the water, especially when targeting flatties as they are not fussy eaters and will take about anything out in their face. I wanna know what your favourite and most whacky soft plastics are and what ones you would enjoy watching me try in the future. Good fishing everyone and thankyou guys for your support!
The maribyrnong river has provided me with so many memorable fishing trips along the years. Nevertheless, I’m always sticking with the same baits and spots. Leave some comments on your favourite baits for this system and good fishing locations you would love to see me try. Thanks everyone for the supportive comments, it makes me enjoy running the channel even more!
@@FishingDownUnder1 small crabs only the greenish coloured ones you find in the area the only bites you get are from big Bream
@RogerM-bh6cx thanks man really appreciated.
Big whiting off the beach is super fun and an enjoyable way of fishing. I’d love to know your different methods in the comments below ⬇️ Thanks guys for watching and your continuous support
That’s heat 🔥🔥
Great video well done
Thanks so much mate for the kind comment, it’s much appreciated!
Great work fellas. What bait and size hook were you using?
Just using pilchards rigged in a size 6 bait holder hook. Wouldn’t be too ordatious to use a size 4 though. Thanks mate.
I lost my rod to a mullaway on that jetty years ago
Crikies, unlucky. I want to go and try that spot during the night and see how I go.
@FishingDownUnder1 it was evening tide was on its way out I had a few small bites then seen my rod mid air then skiing on the surface for about 100mtrs bait was live crab
That’s gotta be annoying, who knows, it could have been a monster bream, 🤣
@FishingDownUnder1 nah iv caught some biggens 44cm my biggest this had to much power
True, I was only joking by the way about the bream. Sometimes big snapper go through there.
I live upstream from there - you caught some good ones, well done!
Thanks man that’s means a lot
W catch bro have you ever tried plastics
Thanks. A few times yes, but every time I see to go, I always cop a bad wind which is isn’t forecasted and my trip is pointless. Nevertheless, I have found bait works the best, they aren’t as aggressive with the plastics.
@ thanks bro
Great catch g could u send me the location and is that the only bait u can use
It is def not the only bait you could use you could throw a bee 🐝 and probably catch something if you have squid blue bait shrimp anything would work
@ you reckon plastics would work
@@durqq Yea they would
@@durqq might get snags tho I don't know what the bottom is like
yabbies are the best i find, after a heavy storm, worms work well. I have tried soft plastics and lure and the bream seem to be spooked by them. I actually went yesterday to make a video and I caught nothing. Only the smaller bream chase the plastics.
I love watching people fishing near me, keep up the great work.
Thankyou so much mate, glad you enjoy the videos!
You should try fishing Williamstown if it's not to far I wanna know what you think about it, the fishing may or may not be good you never know 👍
@ I have never actually tried properly around there, but, I plan to heavily fish it within the coming years as it’s easy accessible for me on my bike.
Nice catch bro👍
Thanks mate!
What bait you using bro
Just using Bass Yabbies
@@FishingDownUnder1 my man....love your content... keep it up....been around Parramatta river bro? Or Meadowbank wharf
nah never where abouts is that, NSW?
Great job mate never knew there was eps there fishing there for a while where u get those yabbies from
Same here until a year ago because I caught one and read up on it. The VFA stocked many of them into the system and they seem to be doing really well. Yabbies are from Douglas Parade Bait and Tackle. Good luck mate
Great video keep it up mate! Absolute ripper content!! Making me wanna go fishing myself!!
Thanks mate, glad you liked it!
Great video brother!!
Cheers man, glad you enjoyed it!
Nice work 👍. Is their lights for night fishing?
Thanks mate. Yeah, you can purchase a head lamp. A decent one will set you back $80, cheap one for $15.
Nice video mate do you buy your yabbys or catch them,,keep up the good work 👍😁
I buy my yabbies, but in future if I want to go regularly I reckon I’m going to have to pump them myself as they are super expensive. I buy them from Douglas Parade Bait and Tackle.
Great watch mate 👍 keep it up
Thanks so much for the kind words
Why the glasses can you see the knots better
They’re meant to be symbolic, sort of like my image. You see someone wearing the polarised sunnies, it’s most likely me (I wear them in all my videos).
are they good eating the grass whiting ?
yes, despite what many people say, they actually do make a beautiful table fish.
Pound for pound the 2 best Tasting fish you could put on the Table,And their flesh is almost Identical!
100%, can’t go wrong with King George and Flathead as meal. Easy to clean too.
Those gars look well undersize mate, maybe it's the angle😂
Gars, in Victoria, do not have a minimum legal size. Those gars at that average size mate a beautiful table fish.
@FishingDownUnder1 bloody hell in sa it's 23 cm think I need to move😂
@DarkHorizon03 haha, yeah I reckon we are a bit less strict in Vic. Has its pros and cons. Obviously good to catch more fish but it also impacts our wildlife.
Turtle back worm 4" are the best... however toadfish bite them off very easy..
Yes, I get the odd toadfish a lot. They are a soft plastic that can be really efficient or terrible.
love the video, which part of Maribyrnong River have the best fish ? I am using bait not lure
Definitely the upper areas that contain your fresh and saltwater (brackish) = areas such as Flemington (where I was fishing) and Footscray. Even so near high point you can land some monster bream. Good luck
Looks so goood! Where do you get the yabbies from?
Douglas Parade tackle store. Russel is the man who’ll serve you.
Thanks heaps bro! Tight lines
Love the vid mate! subbed
Thanks for the support!
Awesome bream mate!
Daveeeeee🎉🎉🎉
the goat 💪
these are the type of vids ive been lookin for keep posting
Nathan, thanks so much for the kind words. I’m very happy to hear your enjoying the vids man.
Nice Browns bro, also yes a blackfish you fished out of the river.
Thanks man. Yeah after I came back to the cabin and look over the footage and saw the pattern + tail. I knew it was one. He was decent too, hoping to go back and target them.
I went fishing for trout all the way down from Wangaratta to Cheshunt south and had no luck at all. I managed to see 3 lovely big crays and hand picked them then released them of course and I also saw 1 little turtle but no fish at all and I waded through the river all the way down south and did not see a single fish and even all the other people there fishing had not caught a single fish either. Very strange maybe it was too cold or something for them i spent a total of 4 days travelling down the river to the start of William hovell dam and absolutely nothing. Could be a good challenge for ya 👍🏻
Yeah, really weird I had so many follow ups on my lure, some of the trout were really big as well. I think the water still might be a little to cold but as the weather warms, I reckon trout will start to gain more confidence leading to my hookups. Anyway good fishing mate, hope you get some.
I made a special trip 2 months ago, booked a motel in Mt. Beauty so I could fish for trout in the Kiewa river. Even made a day trip to Bright to fish the Ovens river. 3 days of getting up early to try my luck and I got nothing, not a follow up, a strike hell I didn't even see a trout. I was using mepps spinners and trout rapala lures tied off with 6 pound leader on a 7foot light rod. That's the ultimate combo for trout fishing and I came away with nothing. Even trout opening season I fished the Wellington and Macalister river and caught nothing. Where are the trout?
@stavio12 yeah it has been a tough season compared to the last. I mean like we had a lot of follow ups but i find the trout have been less aggressive this season. i haven’t caught anything over 40cm in which is usually a normality when heading to these rivers. Honestly, try your luck in rivers such as the goulburn and fish in the deep holes there, don’t give up (key step, took me all day to get that trout).
@@FishingDownUnder1 Thanks for the reply mate. Will definitely keep trying, especially the Goulburn. Cheers.
Great video! Surprising to see pinkie being caught in that region. Btw, is there a good chance of catching breams on soft plastics over there? Thanks!
Yes there is but you have to fish the river when it’s clear, so no rain within the the last weeks otherwise the break won’t bite.
@@FishingDownUnder1 cheers, for such valuable tip!
@guangdazhu7387 all good matey, hope you can catch some bream!
@@FishingDownUnder1 I will give a try in the next few weeks
@guangdazhu7387 good on you mate
Nothing better than fish on!
Exactly mate! Can’t beat it especially on lure.
