@mwhi475 yes mine is a 2014 degraff trailer, I believe it has the original set of wheel bearings in, I also have bearing savers fitted and grease them each time out

My boat is a 2020 Terhi475 BR, with a 2024 Merc 60 on the back. We launch it from a great slipway on the river Frome near Wareham, Redcliffe Farm Campsite,. They allow public slipping for a fee. From there, it is fun opening up down the Western side of Poole Harbour and we go from there to all the places you go to. Our favourite mooring place is South Beach Studland. If you ever need spares for your trailer, Dan at Degraff is the man to help you.

@mwhi475 I know Redcliffe very well, I had a mooring on the river near there for a fair few years, and I have friends with caravans and boats in the compound there. Sadly there are lots of thefts in the area nowadays. I do launch there occasionally, but I often launch in mudeford and go round to meet them, as its quicker and cheaper, especially if we are meeting in Studland or Swanage. I bought my trailer brakes from Dan degraff, so know him too 🫣

@SailingWithDave Thanjs Dave. The boat and engine are about 1400kgs, and it weighs 1800kgs, including the trailer and a full tank of fuel. I have had it on a weighbridge. Again, yes, I anchor in a few feet. She floats knee-deep water, so I try to get her to sit in thigh deep water (between knee and waist). I sometimes run a line from the anchor to the shore, so I can pull it in without going too deep myself, though.

@@fat_tommo_goes_boating I think Crosshouse hard is still free but can get busy launch at most tide states and you haven’t got any swell like at Calshot but obviously extra fuel to get down to entrance . We go out fishing and burn about 38 litres in total stating and returning to dry stack at Northam and going out to Osbourne Bay or West Lepe we are in a Quicksilver 755 pilothouse with 200 verado so won’t be as fast your 650 ! Dry Stack is lovely just phone up ask launch boat and you get to yard and ready and waiting .

@catman2629 Yes, Crosshouse is free but a chap I know had this trailer stolen whilst out for the day, so I have not launched there myself since. I'm sure dry stack is great, it probably wouldn't work for me because I'm disorganised and often don't plan ahead to give them notice. Also, my engine gets flushed out, and the boat washed and polished most times out, too 🫣 which is easy at home.

@ChrisGetsOut no, I never have, but my leg lifts up higher than the vee of the hull, so it would probably be more likley to hit the hull, which as yes so far I haven't done 🤞

@roygoddard5359 all Shetland 535's had the steering on that side. The 536 however had it in the other side, but many have been altered over the years too

I think for me i'd do a bit more sailing in the winter but in a sail boat you need light, good weather planning and good weather and we have neither in the winter. One of the benefots of a power boat is that you can quickly make ground when needed. Maybe next season!! or get myself a powerboat!

@SailingWithDave each have their advantages and disadvantages, anyway Lulu is a powerboat if you just use a motor 😁

I saw a 650 on ebay around 3yrs ago (maybe yours ?). I couldn't gather sufficient funds at the time. Now enjoying pottering about with my ring 18 & merc 150 o/b. Happy days ... enjoy !

@chris-living-the-dream yes, marinas and moorings can be expensive. That's why I don't moor my boat any longer and I often stay at anchor overnight. The money I save on mooring is easily more than a years running cost of the boat and van when towing it.

@surreyarborist yes I live about 20 mins from the Thames and I kayak it abd have used a few smaller boats. I don't use my current boat simply because of the costs.

@ you may have possibly heard about the IOW council’s plans for a replacement, which will possibly be electric, as they agreed to order a replacement rather than keep trying to patch the current one up, which has never been fit for purpose! I have to use it to commute to work!

@duncanwallace5400 that's my mistake, I meant 55mph, which is about 48 knts. However, it has the original 5.8L Ford 351, fuel injected V8 engine fitted.

@fat_tommo_goes_boating That sounds more realistic, 63/64 mph sounded remarkably quick hence wondering what you had under the hood! It is a beautiful boat, I've always liked the 650's.

@duncanwallace5400 me too, mine was the first one of the mk2's made and was the 1994 Southampton boat show boat, my dad and I went on it at the show and he almost bought it there and then but didn't. So when it came up for sale in 2020 and I had just sold a boat, I couldn't resist it and decided it was fate! 🫣

@fat_tommo_goes_boating I'll give you a shout later in the month as a few of us are hoping to get out in the Southampton area late Jan early Feb, as a mate needs to sea trial his boat after upgrading the motor. I've just increased my hp & 4 of us have changed boats in the last few months so need a run out. It's likely to be posted on the SIB's RIBS AND SPORTS BOAT MEETS Facebook page if you are interested.

@richardstamper5630 thanks for subscribing. I used to be moored at Mercury, further up the Hamble but I now trail sail and launch at multiple slipways. I'm 45 miles from Hamble point, closer than you but not really local either

@@fat_tommo_goes_boating I have an almost new 4 wheel trailer but towing 120 miles each way is a faff, plus most of the public slips I have visited in the past don't have any place to safely keep your trailer (it cost almost £5k new). Can you name a few decent sites or perhaps do a video on this subject, would help people like me a lot.

@ChrisGetsOut I'm glad you enjoyed it. I don't use waders as such, I had my drysuit on but only tied around my waist. I actually can't remember the last time I wore my drysuit for launching before this, though. I often just wear shorts and wetsuit boots as I only have to get in about knee deep usually. Interesting, you mention launching and recovering, I did film it yesterday, but I wasn't happy with the audio and a couple of mistakes I made. But I'm going to see what I can do with the footage, so watch this space

A lot of those yellow buoys are seasonal racing marks and are only in use during the season - usually April to October

Thanks Tommo, I have a bayliner 2556 flybridge cruiser so will have it on the hamble for first time in May, so looking forward to it! I also have a Cranchi Derby 700 which is very similar to your boat but needs a new engine, I'll be marinising a mercedes om606 upgrading it to 450hp so will fly, but that's a few years away yet! Might see you about in the season!

@seanf42 I nearly bought one of those bayliners myself years ago but I bought a sealine instead in the end. Yes you might see me about, I often now launch in Christchurch but I will be about on the Hamble every now and then still.
