How to Make Beetroot Pachadi | Kerala Style Sadya Recipe
To celebrate the start of Onam, I’m sharing how to make beetroot pachadi, a must-have in every onasadya! 🌼🌸
This vibrant dish brings together sweet, tangy, and spicy flavors, making it a delicious addition to any Onam feast! Full recipe below:
Ingredients:
- 1 medium-sized beet, finely grated or shredded (about 2 cups)
- 2 spicy green chilis, chopped
- ½ teaspoon mustard seeds
- 2 dry red chilis
- 2 sprigs of curry leaves
- ½ cup onions, chopped
- ½-inch piece of ginger, minced
- 2 cups yogurt, whisked until smooth
- ½ teaspoon crushed mustard seeds
- ½ teaspoon salt, more as needed
Instructions:
- Heat 1 tablespoon of coconut oil in a pan over medium heat.
- Once the oil is hot, add the mustard seeds, dry red chilis, curry leaves, chopped onions, and minced ginger. Sauté for 2-3 minutes until the onions are softened.
- Add the grated beets to the pan. Add salt and sauté for another 3 minutes, or until the beets are lightly softened but still have a bit of bite. Be careful not to overcook the beets.
- Remove the pan from the heat and allow the mixture to cool slightly.
- Once cooled, stir in the yogurt and sprinkle the crushed mustard seeds over the mixture. Mix until everything is well combined.
- Serve and enjoy!

Why is there always a problem with your CC. It’s never turned automatically for one thing. We have to go into settings to turn it on, Why? ? And now we can only turn on Malayalam CC. Hi Nimmy! I apologize for not seeing this comment earlier. Yes, you can keep the fish curry outside if you plan to eat it the next day. This allows the flavors to incorporate well. One tip: occasionally pour the gravy over the fish to enhance the flavor.
