Thanks for sharing. I've been up there several times. . Last time I was up there was in 1999 and the first time was around 1985, which was quite the adventure in a regular passenger rental car. At that time, the small station house was pretty rustic looking. Bare wood siding and a corragated metal roof. The stones at the top of the tunnel arch were still visible but not enough to see inside. I've also Hiked up and over like you did and hiked in from Hancock from the east side which was a nice easy walk. Glad I did it when I did because I'm 75 now and in no kind of condition to be doing this sort of thing any more. Al Hofer - Pawcatuck, CT

Those Mormons were as tough as it comes. They didn't just walk it, they pulled a frickin' cart full of their stuff. Wow😉😉😉😉

History tells us that just 43 +- Mormons crossed the Oregon Trail when over 400,000 others crossed it. Why then did the Mormons get permission from the BLM to shut down Rocky Ridge ? I have traveled that portion many times in a 4wd. Seems a tragedy. The Mormons have built campgrounds at the Sweetwater , Rock Creek Crossing. Destroying many natural settings. I despise the BLM for allowing this. The history is being destroyed by the minority who traveled this great passage through the state of Wyoming.

Thoughtful narration and interesting sights of an area notable for hardship and preserved only because of the isolation. Although the pioneers got stuck here they were safe from indians because even the indians djdnt go here. Also you cracked on the portland trailblazers but your sound quality was horrible.

So, from the parting of the ways onward, how can anyone be certain that that is part of the real Oregon Trail? You see rut marks going off near the "trail" you're driving on that looks suspiciously like a man made road. There are a lot of places that claim to be part of things like The Underground Railroad or The Oregon Trail or Lewis and Clark Expedition that aren't actually true. This one looks like a road NEAR The Oregon Trail. But beautiful scenery none the less and very informative.

All the stars!!!!! No light pollution!!!!! Do you think anyone who pioneered the Oregon Trail ever looked up at the depth of the milky way and pondered the Universe? Or do you think it was just so mundane to see all the stars in the sky?

the oregon trail and the morman trail don't belong to one person or group. the both belong to american history. and that includes all people.

Very cool! Last summer, on July 2nd I believe, I went out to Parting of the Ways. My little '99 Lexus sedan doesn't do two-track very well, so I rode my bicycle part of the way out to the spot. The stone marker had fallen over when I got there. I took the liberty of righting it the best I could. I see it has tilted over a bit again. Might have to head back sometime this summer for the weekend and do the job right.
