$10 vs $100,000 Pinewood Derby Car! Who Will Win?!
Dads, make these WITH your kids, not by yourself. It's awesome being able to do fun projects like this with my kids and teach them how to use tools, how things work and be able to do things on their own. In this video, we build 2 fast pinewood derby cars and we also race against my buddies custom CNC machined car built using aerospace grade CNC machines! Who will win??

Please stop trapping moisture into your basement walls with insulation simply paint and expose your ceiling and enjoy your basement with a dehumidifier over the drain that's all you need
For a moisture barrier, would you recommend a product like DryLok onto the walls first then put up the foam board? I have a storage area that has just the concrete poured walls that is basically all underground. I am thinking of putting up foam board against it to stop the cold air coming in the rest of the basement. I won't finish these walls as it is just a storage area. Thanks

@starbaby15 not yet. You? Any good?

@starbaby15 it's awesome!
I have been insulating 5 shipping containers. One estimate I saw if I used the same adhesive you used, it would cost $500 in adhesive per 20ft shipping container. Instead I for construction adhesive foam. It takes less than 2 $16 cans per shipping container. It is also better at rough surfaces. It starts out 1.5 inches thick, and spreads out depending on how hard you press. I am intentionally sealing the top of the wall cavities while leaving the bottom open. That way any condensation will come out the bottom and not get trapped as a liquid, causing mold issues. I also left a 1/4 inch gap between the sheets that I filed with window and door spray foam so it will flex over time, like an expansion joint, but more insulating than just taping the joints. My panels are 3.5 inches thick.
@mikegrok very nice work. I definitely didn't spend anywhere near $500 for a 1,500 sq ft basement though. Maybe $120 at most.
Horrible video. Too much talking, looks more like a photo shoot to get some bicep flex's in.
@@Robalo450 haha 50,000 people would disagree.
Thanks for the detailed explanations !
Brings back memories lol. Great job letting the kids do most of the work and learn from the process.
@@102wingnut thanks! Gonna love these videos when we are all older
Something you didnt cover. You weighed your car with the weights separately but then you drilled out material for the weights. Did you end up having to add an additional weight to counter the drilled out material?
@famousamoso7 really good catch and an oversight on my part. I bought some tungsten putty (off Amazon) and brought with me for weigh-in and wound up putting some on top of the rear axle to get exactly to 5 oz.
@@ryanscottlifts I remember my scouting days and pinewood derby cars. So fun to see fathers working with their kids just as mine did with me. Some years I competed for fastest car. Some years I competed for best design.
@famousamoso7 next year may be design. End our careers on top of the speed test haha

Cool podcast
I built my car with youtube videos, and now I'm going to finish my basement through videos next. Your shirt embodies all I am. I'm just a guy working in IT, I didn't learn any of this or have any mentors but I'll be damned if I can't do it myself because my mentality is not to have to rely on anyone to fix it later. Watching thru your series now and taking notes, finally I found someone with a concrete poured basement because all the other videos I found were for block walls. Thank you for documenting all this because I know it isn't easy making tutorials especially this in depth
@Sunny2456- amen brother! I am an accountant lol. Just happen to also know a thing or 2 from doing projects over the years. I am hopefully getting my Part 3 (and final) framing video out soon. Goodluck with your project!
Astounding! Merry Christmas
Are you really Matt Damon? Well done video, Scott. Nice property.
Any reason why you didn't install a thermal break floor before the insulation on the wall? Typically I see the flooring first, then insulation, then frame over the floor.
@raymonddurkin newer flooring has bottom "rubber" and doesn't necessarily need any sort of subfloor in the basement. Also, my basement (and house) and newer, dry, and relatively warm. I don't have the hvac turned on yet and it stays in high 60s down there even during winter.
Beautiful! Looks fantastic@
@@cougarkitty9560 thank you!

@@jtbasic hahaha maybe next video!
There is an alternative method now. Its those solderless heat shrink tubes that all you do is put the two ends in & use either a lighter or heat gun then you have a waterproof connection. Works better if you twist them together. 😊
@guyh.4553 i have some of those but the coating melts before the solder most of the time (at least for me)
OK. I am sold. I am subscribing and watching you through your process of finishing your basement.

@elaynn6633 these are not polarized so no. But in most electrical applications, it absolutely matters.
@ Thank you!
Thanks for sharing this, I picked up some nuggets as I just started my process this winter on our basement. Going with the rigid foam as well....more $$ but think its worth it in energy / comfort savings as well as time.
@@billnolan9781 awesome. Goodluck with your project! Glad this was helpful.
Am I correct you don't leave them up all year round? Why not leave them up all year round?
@mj4208 no I take them down. Leaving them out all year would result in a bunch of broken christmas lights that I'd have to replace anyway. Sun and weather destroys stuff!
