I always thought it was hardcore reading about pokemon that eat other pokemon. I mean, we kind of expect that, but never see it actually HAPPENING

Charmander. Full stop. You had to endure so much before the fourth gym just to have type advantage. Even after that you had a struggle. Charizard outspeeds both. In the original you couldn’t learn them but Charizard was later given ThunderPunch and SolarBeam to combat his weaknesses. I love all three and can do this debate for either of the other two. Pikachu is a yellow rat. Clefairy should’ve remained the mascot.

I still say Squirtle. As others just go by looks or their personal favorite they don't go by what actully is. Since Pikachu isnt a starter until Lets Go Pikachu hes not an OG so i wont count him. In OG games hes just Pokemon #25 thunder rat. Squirtle can take down Charmeleon because well Charmeleon is fire type. Leaving Bulbasaur that Squirtle is weak against. Squirtle can learn Ice Beam his grass is weak to ice type moves. Charmander cannot learn Thunderbolt or any grass type move except grass knot but it wasnt a move until later games so it didn't exsist in an OG game so he never gets the upperhand on Squirtle. They can all learn fighting type TMs. But none of the 3 are weak to fighting. Charizard has flying type coverage but that's when he's evolved and in OG games flying type moves had a lower accuracy and were weaker. Remember we are going by OG here. Squirtle can learn the top and most useful HMs in the game being Surf and Waterfall, which are also the most powerful water type moves being 95 damage. The elite four and champion in the original game all have several Pokemon that Squirtle would be amazing against. Charmander is only cool for the grass type gym leader and all the bug catcher trainers that are placed like landmines everywhere. 😂 Bulbasaur is cool for only the water type gym leader. Squirtle is great for the elite four, ground and rock gym, evenbthe grass type for he can learn ice beam so Charmander became useless. Only thing Charmander is good for is fly but you cant fly to locations you haven't been too yet so more helpful post game unless you need to back trace for whatever reason during the storyline. By even by post game you have several other Pokemon already that can learn fly or already know it upon catching. In the first wild encounters you catch grass type so there's grass coverage, leaving Bulbasaur useless. Usually the first 2 gyms you start running into fire type. So theres fire coverage. You dont runn into water type until you either learn surf or have the fishing rod which is about mid game. Making Squirtle the best choice. Although I prefer the unloved Bulbasaur, Squirtle is by far the most useful.
