Audi TT convertible top trick
มุมมอง 51K4 ปีที่แล้ว
In many cases this will get the convertible top to function on an Audi TT. Although this is an extremely common problem, there are lots of other switches and components that can malfunction. NOTHING BEATS A QUALIFIED REPAIR SHOP, but saving a few bucks is pretty sweet too.
You are awesome thanks a lot I save 2000€ like you said ❤️
Man I saw this on a forum and everyone said how stupid this fix was, thank you sir, worked like a champ.
well i have a different issue. when roof is open and press to close, flaps go up and the left one after in open position starts making some ticking noise and nothing more happens... - any suggestion, please? :)
Hi. Can you change the roof cloth?
Nice vid josh . Thanks for those remarks
Nice video.
Thank you, sir! Worked like a charm 🎉
Can u help me to find a way to open my soft top convertible audi tt?
Thankyou so much that is very good advice but don't say get rid of them that is bad advice 😁
I was cleaning my similar TT today prior to selling at a dealer in 2 days time. On testing my roof to make sure it lowered OK I got the "roof cannot be used" error in the dash. After a short panic I found this video and bingo!! After a wiggle of the left and right roof flaps, the roof worked flawlessly again! Therefore THANK YOU so very much for the advice, you are a true saviour : )
Further to my comments, the reason wiggling the flap sometimes works is because doing this has the TEMPORARY effect of cleaning the potentiometer contacts. May last a couple of weeks but not the solution, strip and clean is!
The REAL reason is the flap motor has grease inside which in hot weather runs onto the potentiometer, thus causing "bad signals" to the computer. To fix, remove motor, strip and clean grease and potentiometer contacts. !!!!!!
Danke schon. Wiggled each flap for a coupla seconds and it did the trick. WOW.
My wife wants to send you money. We couldn't figure out what was wrong. Just got it back from the body shop because of a minor problem that was not our fault and the top wouldn't go down. Did this and vuahla. Thanks. Let me know where to send the check.
Please post more fixes
I think this is a software fault as much as an oxidation fault. I'm in the UK and have an '08 TTS with 50000 miles and this fault has happened to me a few times. The last time, over a year ago my local Audi dealer sorted it in 5 minutes by plugging in his laptop and correcting the apparent fault with the offside paddle motor. Since then it has worked perfectly many times, until two days ago when the same thing happened - the top wouldn't come up. Another trip to the Audi dealer and the same trick with the laptop and it's working again, but for how long I cannot say. They do not charge me, which is great, but it seems that if the fix doesn't last I will need a new flap motor.
It's a bad sensor. The fix is to replace the sensor. Very common problem on these models
Very helpful and did the trick! Thanks very much!
Doesn’t work
Yes Yes its working perfect Thanks a lot
I have experienced this very year…, probably because here in Holland we have just 4 months summer weather and the the rest of the year the rooftop is closed. The first 2 years I brought my car to the Audi garage and they charged me €850 euros for new sensors. A year later € 400 euro’s for 1 sensor Long story short I have tried your solution and problem fixed! Many thanks 🙏🏾 I never go back to the official Audi garage these guys are Evil.
best ! same problems!
Thank you
Genius! Thank you!!! Worked on my 2008.
"I don't want you to know how to fix your own car" *posts video on how to fix your own car on TH-cam and gets 18k views*
'Poor bastard' is me.. I'm poor bastard 😅
HOLY SHIT IT DID WORK WITH A LITTLE OF WIGGLE
Terrific. Worked for my 2008 .
Hello, thank you very much for this tip it solved the issue that we had that it wouldn't open. Much appreciated again thanks
OMFG, this worked. Legend 👍😀
I have a 07 A-4 & Besides changing the convertible top motor that I found @ pullofpart I realized that the trey in the trunk of the car was the issue
Perhaps the best, most useful and to the point TH-cam video I’ve ever seen! Thank you!!!
You are master;)
Clearly this guy is going places...... Just listen to that rock solid business acumen. Nothing ensures repeat customer loyalty quite like hearing some DS tell you (FIRST THING) "You poor bastard." I mean....... What a consummate professional.
He certainly sounds like a COMPLETE GOBSHITE who thinks everything the U.S makes is brilliant it aint
Ruairi McCarthy Gobshite? Wahhhhhhhhahahahah that's hilarious 😂 But I'm American and I have impeccable taste and discernment when it comes to recognizing intelligent design..... Which brings me to my next point, and that is...... Even my favorite automobile manufacturers like Audi, Porsche, Mercedes Benz, Lamborghini and even Bentley are guilty of making questionable choices in design as of late. Especially the sedans and sporty smaller vehicles. It looks like whomever is designing the front ends of the A5 and the Sportback versions that were cool a couple years ago, is suffering a stroke in installments. I kinda wanna slap em, and tell whoever's in charge that they should send that one back to Hyundai or whatever they make in Korea. I mean even BMWs are built like they tried to save money by dividing the weight that is indicative of solid build quality in half. Makes me sad.
Need a fix for Audi TT mk 1
I recently spent a chunk replacing the switch that operates the roof as the roof was not closing all the way. It's working but the indicator light is now flashing and beeping because it "thinks" the top is not securely all the way open when clearly it is?! HELP!
You really need to use an OBD reader to get the codes. This is most likely the signal from the left and/or right flaps - see www.ttforum.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=43&t=1786641 When I removed my flap mechanisms, I found that on one side the nut that holds the little ball joint on had dropped off which meant that it gave a false reading - you can check for any slackness without dismantling (TIP: use a pencil to mark around the bolt heads in order to realign correctly).
Are you sure about that??? Cause it doesn’t work in mine.
Can I spray that part with Dielectic Contact Cleaner to clean it?
Thanks for the advice however mine is 9 years old and it just started having this issue. Besides this one issue (unlike other German cars) the car design is great and it's a very fun drive. Haven't found anything comparable as far as materials and quality goes. Everyone loves their plastic door handles and plastic painted silver. This model has metal door handles and aluminum inlays. I love my ride!
Wow! Thank you for the information. Worked perfectly. Tried driver side didn't fix it. Tried passenger side FIXED!!!
The potentiometer inside the servo flap motor isn't oxidizing, it's contaminated by grease from the internal gears which will trigger an "implausible signal" fault. When the top fails to open or close, this is usually the culprit. Audi actually released a TSB on this part some years ago, however replacing the roof flap servo may not solve the problem. Check out this DIY repair in our forum to see exactly how to fix this problem on the 2006-2014 Audi TT (8J) Roadster - How to: Audi TT Mk2 (8J) Convertible Top Flap Servo R&R www.ttforum.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=43&t=1786641 An OBD fault scan (e.g. OBDeleven, Carista, etc.) can be used to detect the fault code, but you'll need a Ross Tech HEX-V2 cable and software to run the Convertible Top Adaptation and reset the system. Just clearing the faults won't solve the problem as the system needs to "learn" the new values of the cleaned up servo as you cycle the top and flap motor through a complete open and closed operation. If you do this as preventative maintenance BEFORE this becomes a problem, you can clean the contacts in both servos WITHOUT having to run the Adaptation. However once this fault is triggered, you'll need to run an Adaptation to resolve the fault. For specific information on the operation of the Mk2 8J convertible top, read through Self Study Program 391 Audi TT Roadster. You should be able to find a PDF with a Google search. Cheers from the Audi TT UK Forum! :-) A typical fault scan will look like this - Address 26: Auto Roof Labels: 8J7-959-255.lbl Control Module Part Number: 8J7 959 255 B Component and/or Version: 256 VSG TT H14 0110 Software Coding: Work Shop Code: WSC 00000 000 00000 VCID: 3E73D87369826EEEA6F-806B 4 Faults Found - 02000 Switch Position* 008 - Implausible Signal - 00830 Convertible Top Control Module (J256) 004 - No Signal/Communication - Intermittent - 03246 - Sensor for Canopy Flap; Left (G596) 008 - Implausible Signal - 03247 Sensor for Canopy Flap; Right (G597) 008 - Implausible Signal
hello bro, i have this fault scaning with carista, 02000 switch position, there is no more faults for the roof top, do you know how to repair it? I`ll go to audi shop for repair it ?
