Camping Fail Trip! (Allens Creek Rd Recreation Area - Monroe Lake, Indiana)
Here is a recent trip to Allens Creek Recreation Area on Monroe Lake near Bloomington, IN. I took my son for a nice little camping trip and it did not go as planned. I want to go back and try again in the future. I think this place will be an epic spot to camp if I can make it all the way down the old road. Let me know if you have ever been down Allens Creek Rd before. Thanks for watching! See you on the next one!

Nice review. How strong are the struts and are they easily replaceable? Mainly, I want to carry my recovery gear in a rifle case and canoe on top of the tent. My only concern is if the tent can still open and stay open with weight on the racks.
@mandingo9471 i would say very strong. I would have no problem putting alot of gear on it. It's actually a little difficult to close at times. I jump down whole holding the rope to close it. I think it's only a could bolts to replace them of they fail.

So, what do you do with the stock mirrors when you put the doors back on?
@cowpounder57 my stock mirrors don't come off the doors. I take these mirrors off when I put my doors back on.
How is the vibration?
@Capt_Stove these mirrors seems pretty solid. I do have some mud terrain tires. So my jeep probably vibrates more than normal. I like them. What's nice about these are if you don't like them you can return them to Amazon. 🤷♂️
So I have been thinking about purchasing this tent. So are you able to still close the tent with the mattress topper and sleeping bag and pillows still in it?
@TheUncontainedChastains so I actually had to take out the original mattress and I am using the 3 in topper now. I can fit about 3 sleeping bags and some other smaller items. I can't fit a larger pillow. But I have 2 camping pillows in it. It's a tight fit but it works.
From the Amazon reviews, the chief complaint is the mounting hardware (brackets/bolts). Does anyone have any recommendations for replacement parts that would be an "upgrade"? I would like to make sure it's securely mounted when driving at highway speeds. Thanks.
My brackets have been pretty good and it's been on my Jeep. Since i've mounted it. My only issue is the light bar cord was really, really fragile and broke on me before I could use it. The company did reach back out to me to help fix it.But I just bought some different lights. Also my ladder hits my Jeep rack. Still trying to figure a solution out.
🟢cta1284 15.09’24- I went a different route on my 2013 JKU & did the clock spring fix which no one else did. Here’s my solution…. JK Parking Brake Lever Repair (2013 JKU) •Repair adds a single wind on clock spring to re-tension parking cables. •The clock spring’s tension is not difficult to move. •Can be done with parking brake handle assembly in vehicle ITEMS NEEDED PULL LINE- •20 in. of 18ga wire (Stranded or solid, insulated or not) PLIERS- •Vise grip (Pull line handle) LEVERAGE TOOL- •Large screw driver, chisel or equivalent (Starts movement on clock spring) REPAIR PROCESS o Remove center console & associated wiring; makes the job easier. o Lower parking brake handle. o Cut 20 in. of 18ga wire. o Run wire 1/2 way through the bend of the clock spring’s hook that engages tab. (May need to push hook forward to get wire through) o Start a tight twist at the spring’s hook then continue twisting the wire together. o Run the twisted wire forward / down & feed it under clock spring towards rear of vehicle. o Attach vise grip to end of twisted wire. o The next step will require two movements at the same time- o 1) With a large screw driver, chisel or equivalent, push forward on clock spring hook & down in front while 2) pulling on the twisted wire with the vise grip. o Keep pulling until the hook lines up with the tab. o Shift hook over & slide hook back onto tab. o Re-install center console.

Hi. Enjoyed your video presentation and content. Job well done. Just subscribed to your channel. This looks very similar to the Naturenest tent I’ve been considering. I can’t find the weight of just the tent assembly itself: only the shipping weight. What is the weight, if you know, please?
@LIFTSMITH thank you for the sub! I would just have to guess the weight. I put it on my jeep rack by myself. I wouldn't recommend that. Lol it was a little difficult. I would guess it weighs close to 150 lbs. I was considering the Naturenest as well. I like the price and free shipping of this one.
Alright. I will certainly seek and extra hand to mount it. Thank you for such a quick response. I look forward to watching your other videos as I just discovered you last night while searching for this tent brand review. I’m leaning pretty hard on ordering this tent from Amazon. Though I don’t yet have a rack system to mount it on yet. I drive a 2004 Wrangler LJ. Limited options for roof racks for the LJs. Just got into off road/trail riding about a year ago. It has been a good transition from backpacking/campground camping and my former motor sports over many years ago of Moto-cross in the 70s to car racing in the 80s and go karts in the 90s. Combines the mechanical vehicle world with the hiking/camping world. I’ve spent most of my trail driving in the Daniel Boone National Forest & Red River Gorge area. Thank you again.
@@LIFTSMITH I want to visit that area so bad! And I think Amazon is a safe place to take a chance with things. Easy return policy and good customer service. We'll that has been the case to me so far. I think for the price point, I have been very pleased. I will keep the content coming! Thanks again for watching! Good to meet you! Keep in touch! 🤙
Thank you. Will do. My favorite trail recommendation for the Gorge area is the Sinking Creek Trail and a few of the connections trails to it. Good anytime of year but I like it best with the leaves off for increased viewing. Very few on trail camping in the area. But Callie’s Campground is a great base camp area. They have sites from full hookups to primitive sites that are $10 per night. The little store makes burgers and great pizzas if you have a lazy cooking day.
@@LIFTSMITH awesome information! I will definitely save that information! You might see a Gorge video in the future for sure
Thanks for the introduction to Shades. Looks like a neat park. Everyone thinks Indiana is flat everywhere. Not so.
Yes this place was anything but flat. Lol
If you ever have to drag a deer out of one of the valleys you won't think Indiana is flat. LOL I didn't even know about Shades. Thanks for sharing.
Great family outing!
It was alot of fun! Thank you for watching!!
Thanks for the detailed vid, man! I also just subscribed. Two questions for you... do you think a down sleeping back can be stored inside the rtt while it's closed, and do you think it's super heavy?? No weight is listed on Amazon that i found.
@rockmail3 thanks so much for the sub! 1. I think the down sleeping bag will fit inside with the original mattress. I did swap mine out with a 3 in memory foam mattress. (I have a video on that - "camping prep vlog"). If you keep it all original, you can fit a decent amount of stuff inside. 2. I would say it's decently heavy but not as heavy as my old smittybilt Rooftop Tent. Maybe a total of 125 to 150 lbs (just guessing). I did get it on my roof rack by myself. It was tough. Two people would be recommended 😆 Hope that helps some! It's super dark inside. I like it better than my smittybilt RTT. The ease of set up and take down is my favorite part.
Are you able to fit your bedding / blankets inside of the tent when it’s closed?
I can fit some but not all right now. Im planning on getting some vacuum bags to suck all the air out and hopefully I can leave my large pillows inside. I took out the original mattress and put a 3 in mattress topper inside. I have a video of that (camping prep video). With the 3 inch topper, I have two small camping pillows, one camping blanket, and one kids size sleeping bag. I have to store the ladder and my other pillows in the jeep for now.
Nice device. Good change of pace video.
Thanks!!! Always appreciate the view and comments!
On mine, I started with the passenger side and found that the nut behind the plug (the one closest to the push button) was blocked by a metal piece which has a slot for the bolt.. but the nut is behind it.
That's strange. The worst handle for me was the rear hatch door. I didn't have Any of the door nuts blocked.
That’s pretty nifty. I’ve got my diesel heater for winter camping, but I never thought about a portable AC in the summer months.
@Havoc.Overland I might go again this Friday. The high is 94*. Lol I'm bringing it again! Haha. I'm buying a diesel heater this year. What do you have and do you like it?
Also I see that you got your ladder to attach to the side!
@OG_Darkman I'm using a small loop from a paracord right now. Not perfect but it's working. I need to do some more adjustments because the ladder hooks are rubbing the roof rack some.
@@jones_edition maybe some like thin rubber padding that you can black zip tie for now so you don’t rub the coating would help.
