Lucinda Ruh of Switzerland skates in the long program at the 1999 World Figure Skating Championships in Helsinki, Finland. Ruh ends up in 13th after placing 13th in both short and long programs. Ruh shows even more interesting spins here during her routine.

Lucinda Ruh of Switzerland skates in the short program at the 1999 World Figure Skating Championships in Helsinki, Finland. Ruh, a relatively weak jumper, was widely known in skating circles as a superb spinner, and she displays that very well here.

Michelle Kwan - 2001 Worlds QR - Song of the Black Swan

Michelle Kwan takes the lead in Group A of the Qualifying Round at the 2001 World Figure Skating Championships in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. During the warm-up, the heel of her boot came apart and she was forced to fix it right before she was slated to skate. She ended up skating cleanly, landing 7 triples including a triple-triple combination and eventually won her fourth World title.
Michelle Kwan - 1997 Worlds LP - Taj Mahal

Michelle Kwan skates to her program themed "The Taj Mahal" with music from Maurice Jarre's "Lawrence of Arabia" and Fikret Amirov's "Gyulistan Bayati Shiraz." She was 4th after the short program and won the free skating portion of the competition of the even with this performance, but was only able to finish 2nd overall.

Michelle Kwan finishes in 4th in the short program after this performance to the "Dream of Desdemona" at the 1997 World Figure Skating Championships in Lausanne, Switzerland. Includes a profile piece and scores. She goes on to win the long program and finishes 2nd.
Michelle Kwan - 2002 Skate America SP - The Feeling Begins

Her first competitive performance of the 2002-2003 season. She finishes in 1st in the short program at this event and goes on to win the championship. The commentary is in Mandarin, but as far as I know, this is the only video ever released of this portion of the event.

I've NEVER seen such an incredible skater be so UNrecognized and UNrewarded for their incredible work, skill and artistry. She should have been right up there with Ito, Asada, Yamaguchi, Witt, Trenary, Kwan and a host of other renowned skaters. UNFAIR ! UNFAIR !!!!

No one beats Michelle kwan. She beat herself. Michelle kwan grew up during 97~ 98, her body changed and tried to find a new balance. She pushed herself too much. She never gave up. She worked hard, practiced hard. She enjoyed the journey whatever win or fail.
My top 5 favourite female figure skaters of all time. She was in a league of her own.

it's pretty cool to see a figure skater fall down in the middle of her run and still think that was a phenomenal performance
Every time I watch Lucinda spin I stop breathing. Just mind blowing spinning that no one can match. She is the best spinner ever in the world of Ice Skating. Her center bores holes in the ice! Such grace and ability. I can't get enough of her...

even though she didnt win...this was her best performance of this program...she is a legend
it's still one of my favorite short programs. Even the opening moves the spiral gets an appluse from the crowd. Bring back the spiral and layback in the ladies program.
This is tragic that superb spins can't get a skater onto the podium.

The ISU raised the age limit to 17, which means Tara and the Russian girls should go to the kid's Olympics. With a kid's body and weight, Tara and the Russian girls didn't deserve the Olympics.
I wish she had done this SP again at the 02 Olympics

Tara was overrated is the reason that Michelle didn't get the 1998 Olympics , Michelle was robbed. Tara's performance just like a Disney cartoon.

Tears .... just tears. Can’t muster up anything else to say. 😭😭😭 Just overwhelmed with joy.
And the tragic irony is the thing that made her famous or should I say infamous, her spins, affected her brain and now she can no longer spins.
Music sucks
The opening note and Michelle to take that first note with a breath... breathtaking. The lutz combo sucked but the interpretation to this peice was godly.
