@@Stratus... ok I was being a bit doomer yesterday about this run saying I give up but I think I actually will keep trying for sub 30. I literally need 2 seconds... so surely soon.

I have an faq in the description where I answer this, but basically it's a glitch called a coyote. When you enter the air without jumping, after you enter the spin state while in the air the game just gives you a few frames where it'll allow you to jump again for some reason. It's also what's happening at 1:47. In the other speedrun categories it's used many many times.

also fucking insane run. im so out of the loop with some of these tricks and its got me wanting to get back into eys

as far as I know it got completely patched in 1.2.2 or something as well as skyeboost, so we started downpatching to 1.1 (there's a guide on how to downpatch in the tools channel in the discord, it's not too complicated) also you def should get back into eys, that category has changed so much and there's probably still so much room for improvement in routing, so much is still being found pretty consistently

Mayyyybe I'm not sure. I just know I'm gonna be soooo nervous, so I'd wanna get used to streaming first cause that seems somewhat adjacent. Also I don't even watch GDQ or any event like it very often so it's just weird to me to try and get on it. The only reason why I'd want to get on GDQ is to encourage more speedrunners to play the big catch, but I already know Stratus, H4xm, Shovel, Vaen, etc. are all gonna be submitting runs constantly to speedrun events when the main game comes out, so I don't need to worry about that. I guess we'll see when the main game comes out.

wdym, like why did I go in that big curve while doing the sideboost? after the ring fish we die to warp back to the deathwarp point, and your deathwarp point is placed on where you were standing previously. But if you spam jump to stay off the ground for as long as possible, you can actually travel a far distance while keeping your deathwarp point in the same spot if that makes sense. It's hard to explain, but basically I take that huge curve all the way close to bounce so that after ring when I deathwarp, I warp all the way closer to bounce which can save like up to 6 seconds.

(and you can't set your deathwarp on some surfaces, which is why it's fine to slide up the sloped entrance to fling)

yeah those vines did get pushed up in v1.2, I have no idea why they changed it lol. It still is possible on v1.2 though. When you groundpound in this game you gain just a little height before falling. So you do the same thing as in this clip, but right before you're about to grab the vines, you groundpound to get that little height boost to make it up. It's much harder, but still possible.

Lol yeah, luckily nowadays we have something that is much easier/faster, this vid is a little outdated. New strat isn't as cool as that tho lol.

I can't have any distractions, I speedrun in a room with nothing but a screen and a controller, all the walls are black, the room is 100ft underground, my schedule is cleared for the day, no one can reach me, I only eat soylent and drink water jk idk it's good music but doesn't it get annoying after like a few runs lol usually I put on my own playlist

In the debug menu there's a button to switch between Caster and Tackle. This vid explains how to get the debug menu th-cam.com/video/SMRklXliQz0/w-d-xo.html . There's also a character selection mod to start a new save as caster and it's valid for speedruns, you can get that mod in the Discord server linked in the description.

When just running back and forth you'll see your character kinda do a slide when changing directions. If you jump while in that state your character does like a sideflip/somersault kinda thing, and all your momentum will just instantly get switched to whatever direction you're holding. You can see the input viewer on the left below the splits, I just tap down (S) and jump (space), and since I have so much speed going in, it gives me so much speed going out.

We often will do this after a trick called a super, which is that big jump off the shredders that's used multiple times in the run.

lol idk why you're watching this 2 month old outdated run but ty either way (the record now is an insane 34:22 by stratus) what I'm doing at 23:28 is a glitch called skyeboost. It got patched in version 1.2, but basically you jump off a lilypad and as you hop on the water the game still thinks you're on the last lilypad you touched, so it's still applying whatever forces you'd normally be applying to it, which then all those forces are reapplied to you when you switch states (by just losing speed on the water)

Reloaded the game and the fish was gone completely, guessing the game bugged and I already caught it somewhere?

weird, I've never seen that, definitely a glitch. I wonder if it has to do with this latest update, a lot of new bugs got introduced.

You can join the discord (link in the description of this vid) and ask in the #gameplay-help channel if you want a more in-depth answer, but it's called a coyote jump. Basically if you enter the air without jumping then spin, and jump right as you start spinning, then the game just gives you a second jump because it's giving you coyote frames for some reason lol. And "entering the air without jumping" basically means like walking/sliding off a ledge, hitting a bounce pad (without formally jumping *on to* the bounce pad), getting knocked into the air by hitting a checkpoint (very niche but yeah), etc. That's why I just awkwardly walked on to the bounce pad there.

Also if you're learning the speedrun the discord linked in the description will be completely invaluable, I highly recommend joining. (Even if you're not learning the speedrun, it's still neat to see some of the stuff posted there if you like the game imo.)
