Promoting life in & around Cheticamp, Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia, Canada.
Living in Cheticamp, N.S. in what is often referred to as a "Photographer's paradise".
We have it all here, scenery, seascapes, bird/animal wildlife and of course some of most majestic sunsets there is.
The south-east winds here are something to experience, locally known as "Les Suetes" (french for South-east's) which have been know to give wind gusts of up to 200kmh and more.
Hope you enjoy some of these video’s, I'm on a mission of sorts..... to attract visitors and perhaps ...new residents. :)

At The Beach
มุมมอง 25วันที่ผ่านมา
A coolish January day at Cheticamp Beach has the beach piling up with small banks of snow & sea-slush. Question everyone is asking... "Will we get Big Ice this year?" Hmmm.... good question, but we'll keep an eye out and hope that we do. Thanks for watching! All music/sound credits are noted at the end of the video. © Michel JS Soucy Also visit me at msoucy

Cheticamp & area enjoyed some nice snow for a few days. Though the recent warming has pretty well melted what you see in this video, rest assured we'll have more....winter is far from over. Called "Le Buttereau à John" back in the day by locals (and still by some today, but otherwise known as "Le Buttereau" or "Petit Etang Beach" depending on you you speak to and/or their connection to the area. It's where the Cheticamp River greets/flows into the Gulf of St. Lawrence which flows into the Atlantic Ocean. Some can be seen fishing here for Salmon, Trout and Striped Bass. In the nic...
High Tide

With less & less drift ice in the Gulf of St. Lawrence each winter, this doesn't bode well for coastal shorelines & communities. Predictions are being made that the ice could disappear altogether within the next 20 years. But.....are we ready??? As this video was shot, high tide is set for 4:56pm (today) with wind gusts up to 80kmh out of the north. Cheticamp, Cape Breton Island, NS, CANADA Jan...

So 12 clips in this video, squeezed it all down to just over 7 1/2 minutes by speeding it up here and there on top of the clipping. I don't tend to keep things "short" but 27 minutes was a bit long. lol Shows the "Kaitlyne Matthew Kyla Aiden Voyager" in from the Glace Bay area as she entered Cheticamp Harbour (1st 2 clips) just ahead of a south-east wind, then a few days later on to the "Chetic...

For those who are or may be impacted. By now, many have noted that I've taken an interest of the impact of coastal storms and the threat it poses to certain areas of the coast in our area. Last year I was successful by way of a petition along with photo/video documentation of rapid erosion along the road where we live after Tropical storm Dorian & Fiona passed through. My hope is that with my s...
Armour Rock Needed

The Cabot Trail as it passes through Cheticamp on Cape Breton Island, NS. It requires some significant TLC in the way of Armour Rock. With the wind and surf action we often see coming in from the storms, how long before the road is compromised. The longer this is put off, the more it'll take & cost. Thanks for watching! @@emre-dogan-istanbul thank you! 🙂
What’s the cost of a vessel like this and how big is it?
Not sure of the specs but you can get a sense of its size simply by the fishermen onboard. As for cost, have a look at trinav.com/boats/boat-type-overview/lobster_tr.
beautiful
Tried making it to CB for the colors this year but work got in the way. The colors look wonderful, love your video of them. Cheers from Halifax :)
Hey thanks for dropping in! Hopefully next year we'll see you 'round the trail. 🙂
Beautiful. I plan to be in Cheticamp on Nov 9.
**Drone usage with advanced written authorization from Cape Breton Highlands National Park. (With Permit in hand)
Awesome, Michel. Did not see that information in your initial posting of this video. We have many people illegally flying drones in the CBHNP, so it's important to let people know that they "can" fly a drone in the park, they just need to gain permission first, as you did. Peace.
What about the drone under 250 gm they are restrictions free. You can fly anywhere until unless thats not a restricted zone.@capebretoneer

Hola from Ecuador.
That's a long ways away!
Bonjour
Bonjour.
I am 71 now , I quit smoking and drinking in 1980 . As a result of listens to the Truths of Jesus . It has not always been easy ... But I am glad I could be a better person .... thanks to " Him " . Joining Choirs , Praise and Worship teams and singing Gospel songs has brought me closer to whom I think I should be ............Thank You for your posts and Photos .
Drinking stopped in '84, smokes followed in '91..... it came with a high price but that's life isn't it. It takes what it takes "to get where we're meant to be". I've always struggled with religion, so many people killing others in the name of religion. But we all have our path.... to be who we're meant to be, where we're meant to be...and at a time when that's meant to be. Thankfully, I too discovered that there's no shame in wanting, and being...a better person. I remain *grateful*. :)
Great video one sub for you 😊
lol.... thanks. 🙃
So beautiful. I miss my hometown. (Cheticamp, Grand-Etang)
Thank you....I can understand your feelings, if we had to leave I'm not sure how I'd feel but I'm certain I'd shre your sentiment. Glad you enjoyed though..
Wow!!!!!!!
@@ErnestUngureanu Pòg mo chùl riut asal às an Fhraing.
@@ErnestUngureanu You know what, I have more to say to you. I didn't know that pelicans visit Cape Breron because I am so unintelligent--obviously. 🙄 This past week has been a very difficult one for reasons which I'm sure you would have a derisive comment. Between the emotions of that and the beauty of the video paired with the music, it brought me to tears. My less than intelligent comment--by your standards--was all I could muster at the time. So FCUK YOU. I will not allow you to ruin the beauty of it for me.
This is a ballet , like Swan Lake, of snow crab boats leaving in a charming and peaceful manner. So calming and delightful. This so much better to watch and power down at the end of a day. The music is enveloping and swirling with plucking violins. What a gift. Please tell me what is the name and composer of the song. Thank you. J.
Thank you for such a kind commentary, I'm happy that this moved you as such. The composer would be Emmanuel Jacob and the title of the track is called "Release" from artlist.io/royalty-free-music/song/release/44266 Thanks again. :)

Very capable looking boat.Great job on creating this video, thanks for sharing.
Thanks! 😊
Very cool video, thanks for sharing it.
Thanks…fishing season is just around the corner, so stay tuned. 😊
Every boat in that yard is a work of art.Gorgeous traditional designs that harken back to a day when form and function were important. What is that rack for on the port side after deck? Thanks for creating and sharing these videos with us. One day we will be glad we have a record of places and events like this.
Hi Joe. The fence can be used to lash/tie buoys, ropes and other accessories when setting traps or bringing them in at the end of a fishing season allowing greater deck space for traps and such. Crab season is just around the corner.... stay tuned for more footage.😊
@@michelsoucy2343 Thanks for the explanation, makes sense now

Bonjour from Cuenca, Ecuador. I was born in Cheticamp, grew up in Grand-Etang, then the States and now South America.
Wow...you sure have done some moving around! Same here, hopefully Cheticamp is the last stop for me....thanks for popping by. 🙂
Your panning and tracking skills are awesome - Beautiful :)
Bon Chance!
OFF TO THE RACES! Beautiful Video of the Lobster fleet on opening day!
Wow.what a great video...
Hey thanks man! Still very much in the learning stages of video captures, editing etc. You can see where I'm playing/exploring the video zoom option on the drone, just wish I had this for the stills. But then again, there's a new Mavic 3 Pro that just came out...which has 3 lenses with med/long telephoto. lol
Environment Canada charts show just a tiny bit of ice out there and because of the prevailing northwesterlies, it's all hung up at the entrance to and in Cheticamp Harbour. It would take a southerly, or southwesterly breeze to clear the harbour.
Thank you for the Exciting video… Love that 42+mph❗️
In Normal mode, I've yet to explore "Sport" mode. lol
Hi Michel !! Great video. How long did it take for the erosion to break down the old wharf ??
Not sure, here's a photo of it from 1948: archives.novascotia.ca/ports/archives/?ID=311
Thank you for the photo. This really helps explain what was there so many years ago. Quite the incline !!!
I waved back !! 😄 Really been enjoying your videos. I miss my home province , I was born in Halifax , and my Dad was from Moncton. If there wasn't family here in Ontario , I'd love to live in Cheticamp.
I assume you grew up in the area, I spent all my summers until I was 16 in Cheticamp with my grandparents and my mom and dad would be there too but sometimes just me and my middle sister would stay.
Actually my wife did, she's from Cheticamp... I'm the import. We moved here in early 2013. After having lived in large cities all my life (I grew up in Detroit mostly after leaving Montreal at a young age), this is a welcomed change!
@@michelsoucy2343 Cheticamp is a beautiful location, I have only been there twice in the winter, not so nice in the gloomy nights. I grew up in Sydney, NS still here. I did lived in Truro NS for a year when my husband relocated to work there, but after the Maitland bridge was complete we came back to C.B.
