This channel is all drone videos of Scotland (mostly Fife / Edinburgh area) that I've taken with the DJI Mini 2.
I try to upload a new video once per week at 08:00 GMT each Thursday.
Feel free to make suggestions of where you'd like filmed from above or any upcoming events and I'll try and accommodate.

Falls of Bruar by drone
The Falls of Bruar are a series of waterfalls on the Bruar Water in Scotland, about 8 miles (13 kilometres) from Pitlochry in the council area of Perth and Kinross. They have been a tourist attraction since the 18th century and were immortalized in a poem by Robert Burns, The Humble Petition of Bruar Water to the Noble Duke of Atholl, supposedly from the river itself entreating the Duke to plant some trees in the then barren landscape.
"Would then my noble master please
To grant my highest wishes,
He'll shade my banks wi' tow'ring trees,
And bonnie spreading bushes."
The falls were probably formed some time in the last 10,000 years, after the retreat of the glaciers at the end of the last ice age. The waters slowly cut through the rock which had been pushed up by the geological forces which formed the Scottish Highlands some 500 million years ago. The layering of the rocks means that the water has cut a meandering path through the softer rock and left the harder rock untouched. This has led to the creation of deep pools, outcrops and, in one place, a natural arch. The falls consist of two large falls and a number of smaller drops. The water is often coloured brown from the peat through which it flows.
Nowadays, the A9 Perth to Inverness road passes near the foot of the falls in Glen Garry, and there is a shopping centre and car park from where visitors may access the falls. A circular footpath leads up to the Lower Bridge, close to the natural arch, and continues on to the Upper Bridge, about 1⁄2 mile (800 metres) from the car park, before returning down the opposite bank.
The total drop of the falls is about 60 metres. The narrowness of the gorge means that the falls are most impressive after heavy rain, but since the construction of a hydroelectric power scheme in the late 1940s, water is extracted farther up the river and the falls no longer reach the volumes they once did.

I'm an American and I love the sound of the bagpipes. It's uplifting and sad regal and majestic
Very well done!!
Invaeriticus
Nope. An "inver" is a place where A river meets the sea with a settlement.
@ianmacewan9416 thank you on that application of process, though I still stand with the statement applicable towards Invaeriticus and those meant to know.
@@Bradley-o7w your welcome
What do i need to do this? did you ask for permission ?
I used a DJI Mini 2 which is under 250g so you can fly closer to people than 50m and you can fly over them, you can also fly in built up areas. In the UK landowners can't stop you from flying over their property, they can only stop you from taking off from it.
Great flight! 😁Any advice on how to get to a good take off place to fly about Inchcolm Abbey?
Loch Leven?
This one was at Kinghorn Loch, the kids aren't confident enough on the boards to be let loose one something the size of Loch Leven yet.
I love the pipes. I wish I could play mine, but I don't have the wind and all my fingers😊
Whenever I hear bagpipes it brings me to thinking about those brave pipers in the first world war
Brave men, especially as they were targeted in WWI by the enemy to reduce British moral. This lead to the War Office banning pipers in the front line in WWII, but do a google search for "Mad William Millin". On D-Day Lord Lovet asked Private Millin to pipe the soldiers ashore at Sword Beach saying of the law "Ah, but that's the English War Office. You and I are both Scottish, and that doesn't apply." Millin said that he later spoke to captured German snipers who told him they didn't shoot at him because they thought he had gone mad.
@@highflyingscotland I have heard of that man. I cannot believe the bravery he had
@@highflyingscotland He was a Canadian Soldier
@@matthewr6572 only just 😂, his parents were both Scottish and moved back to Scotland with him when he was 3.
@@highflyingscotland yes you are right. He was born in Regina, Saskatchewan. Then moved to Scotland
This is how it's meant to be. Thousands of bagpipes on a hill. Nothing else like it.
It was a great day out, the sun was shining most of the day with only a couple of spots of rain, a bit of a trek from the East coast, but worth it. Our local band's novice drum corp (which my eldest plays snare for) picked up 1st place for their grade, the adult band got 1st for drumming & 1st for ensemble in their grade and our junior drum major picked up 2nd place.
Fantastic video 👌 lovely
Lovely footage, watching this in Plymouth, these are the things I miss about, leaving Fife, these and Burntisland highland games.
Beautiful landscapes, sea, flight, views, song ... Video Like 👍
Nicely done ! Do you take requests?
There's an old video called Eagle's Eye View Of Glencoe. It will be on TH-cam somewhere. Perhaps you could do a drone version of it.
@@albystrawman3504 Thanks for your kind comments, unfortunately I just fly the drone as a hobby and Glencoe is a bit of a trek from my neck of the woods. If I'm ever out that way I'll keep it in mind though.
Amazing video 🤩
Wonderful wondeful footage!!
That was somehow really moving! Lovely soundtrack to it *****. Thanks for making this and sharing it!
Thanks, I wasn't sure how it was going to come out as there was lots of people showing interest in the drone and what could be seen on the screen, which I usually don't mind, but there was a lot of distraction. At one point I had 4 people all trying to see the screen at the same time and I even had to ask one of them to not lean in front of me because for safety it's more important that I can see where it was flying than them. 😂
Brilliant!
At certain angles you might say that it looked like a giant bronze dog's turd. I don't really think that it's a structure that does Edinburgh any real favours apart from luring rubber neckers from around the world to come and gorp at it.
So cool
piekny mastershot :D
Wow. epic footage~ High. 👍
Thanks, they had a fantastic day for it, Mrs HFS managed to get a bit sunburnt because she missed a bit of her leg with suntan lotion (perils of being a Scottish ginger!) 🤣
The games this year were perfect. Hot, with a cool breeze, good crowd, good company and smiles all around ❤🏴🏴🏴🏴🏴
@@alba7519 It was a great day out, certainly better weather than the next week up in Forres for the British Championships.
Hi HFS. I found this tutorial over six months ago and then I lost track of it. I have attempted to do this technique using my Mavic three in November, and I found one major flaw and I don’t know if it’s the same with the Mavic 3 compared to the drone you were using. On the Mavic 3 the Actual dimensions of the Raw file are slightly different than the dimensions of the JPEG file. It’s not just that one is slightly bigger or smaller. The actual proportions are slightly different. Enough so that when I tried to blend the two images, they weren’t aligned properly and of course, wherever things are lighter edges of the area where the cars are moving and light is bleeding up into the sides of the road or a bridge or whatever online incorrectly. What I may not have done was collapse on the JPEG‘s first, and then add the Raw file and have Photoshop attempt to align it. But it still seems like if the proportions of the original image are different, I would still have trouble. I’ll have to go back and re- work that image again and see if it changed anything. I wanted to use the DNG for the master overall image. But when you turn off the Lighten mode layer to reveal the DNG layer, the two images don't match up- even after Aligning all the layers. The DNG layer has a slightly different shape. I've been beating my head on this for a couple of days because I couldn't get alignment of all my layers, and just now figured out that the DNGs out of camera are 5272 x 3948 pixels and the JPGs - even on the same image - are 5280 x 3956 pixels. WTF...????
Hi @jeffellis6544, sorry if the instructions caused any confusion or issues. This was made a few years ago with a Mini 2, which I've now sold so I can't even test with anymore. I've not tried doing any lightpainting lately with either of my other drones (Mini 4 pro & Air 2S). I've tried taking a photo with the Mini 4 Pro and can align DNG's and JPG's out of it without any issue, Photoshop shows both the DNG and JPG as 4032 x 3024 for this one. When I get a chance I'll break out the Air 2S and try that as well and let you know how I get on.

Thanks, yeah it's a bit crazy and cold. I've done the dook about half a dozen times myself in the past but always had a cold by my birthday in early January each time so for the last few years I opt for just watching from the shore, capture footage with the drone and stay comparatively warm!

Appreciate the video. I used to work at Robert Hutchisons in the late 80's and now live in Canada. Nice to see the mill and Kirkcaldy from the air. Before Carr took it over, Pauls Malt used to be on the opposite side of the road from the mill.

Hi @ScotlandandMe, Thanks for the comment. I had No issues flying the drone and the map looks far more impressive from above than it does from ground level.
@@highflyingscotland thanks for the info mate. Yes, it definitely needs to be seen from the air...what a glorious sight

Wonder if the people in the Alcan Scheme will be happy ????
Very nice indeed. 😊 May I ask the 360 camera used? Strapped to your mini 2? Also, where were you controlling from to maintain VLOS for that distance?? (Were you in the train? 😂)
It's the Insta360 Sphere, I was about half way along with a damn bright red flashing strobe on the drone that's hidden from camera because it's in the stitchline of the 2 180 degree cameras above and beneath the drone (same reason you can't see the drone itself regardless of which way you point the camera)
