Thanks alot for this 👍. I am a hobby machinist and was able to dissassemble it since I didn't know how. I clean all parts using a sonic cleaner and it made a pretty good job. Afterwards some air pressure and a bit of scrubs + paper towel here and there. For the reassembly, the only thing I added was oil used for slides on pretty much all surfaces.

does it matter if i'll make mine with only 2 bearings? one normal and one conical. Do you think it will have side play or something? I have made the shaft only long enough for 2 bearings. Should i just use 2 normal bearings or should i include a conical one as well ?

5:55 did you make 70 degrees steep angle because the steel part was kind of short for a 60 degrees angle or was it just your personal choice? I'm asking because i have a similar stock of about 80mm diameter and about long as yours and i would have preferred 60 degree angle but i think it's too short for that

You really need to learn how to pack a bearing. Just smearing grease on it, it's going to fail real fast

I know someone who worked on lathes with sleeve's. He is still having operations 15 years on.

I wonder how long he is going to keep all his fingers, unless he gets out of the habit of swipeing those shavings off with his bare hands.
