Just found your channel. Love all your cozy blogs. I am doom scrolling a lot lately. You have motivated me to pick up my books more. ❤
I annotate mainly classic books for my degree (I study classics) and my favorite tab to put is a red one (the red flag/wtf tab) that I like calling “Horrors beyond modern comprehension”
I loved this story too! It was mix between “the notebook” and “7 husbands of Evelyn Hugo) for me 😊 “In the likely event” was a great story too (you can tell, yarros is very much into military and war irl)😅
'In the likely event' and 'the last letter' are on my TBR list but I'm so afraid they're going to break my heart!
Just found your channel. New subbie. This is the best explanation of annotation. Would love to see more.
Found that the neutral mildliner set is awesome - more earth tones and not as in your face as other colours.
This was very helpful. Thankyou
This is the first video I watched on book annotation, and I want you to know that you sparked an obsessive love in me! Seriously, I find your video so inspiring and helpul - and I absolutely love the sheer beauty of your annotating! Thank you for sharing such a helpful video and for letting us see your gorgeous work!
Thank you so much!
Personal Opinion but Ugh I'd hate my books to be full of tabs! Also I thought annotations were used for understanding. So when I did it in high school it was when reading classics so it was to explain meaning of words and sayings. It wasn't just to write 'i love it' 😂
Would u also write about characters? For example my fav book now is Alice in wonderland so would i write about Alice’s character or not?
VERY IMPORTANT QUESTION: ARE THE STICKY NOTE HIGHLIGHTERS BETTER OR JUST NORMAL HIGHLIGHTERS
I really loved this video! I never thought about how annotating can help me reread favorites without going through all those pages again. It’s like having a personal guide in the book! Also, I learned that using thinner pens makes a huge difference in keeping my notes clear and easy to read. The tab placement trick is genius too; now my books will look nice and organized on my shelf! I’m excited to try the color system for my tabs, especially the idea of having one for emotional moments. Can’t wait to dive into my first annotation journey!
Glad it was helpful - excited for you to give it a try!
New to your channel and feeling all the cozy vibes 📖I would love to get into bullet journalling but it seems so intimidating, don’t know where to start!
I was thinking of creating a bullet journal 101 type video in the future - would that be helpful?
I agree with many here that this is the best annotating video! I like how you broke things down step-by-step and how you neatly summarized those steps at the end of each part. It made things much easier to comprehend. I'm 51 years old and was an avid reader in my youth. I recently made a commitment to reconnect with my love for reading. I've got loads of books collecting dust on my shelves that need my attention! I've never annotated before, so with the help of your beginner's guide, I'm excited to try a more immersive style of reading, which as a fellow stationery junkie, gives me an excuse to acquire new pens, highlighters and tabs, hehehe!
Excited for you to give it a try - especially if that means new stationary!
I love these tips! I've always been scared of "ruining" my books by doing it wrong. I may try these tips with a second hand book or arc so i can figure out which supplies work best for me!
I have done this for many years, I started on library books, that my mum had to replace when I was a child. I had no idea there was a name for this way of marking up my books. I don't use any particular supplies I just use what I have to hand I do add tags now more and more... Much I do in my bible. I do like to use sticky high lighters now. I got them from Amazon. But like you said it's up to us how we do stuff... I do use glitter pens now and then too... I do use very thin pens for writing in the tiny margins. I actually was alone in this journey as none of friends or family mark up their books, and most don't even write in their Bibles, all my Bibles are marked up, and I hope when I go to be with The Lord my family will enjoy finding me in my books. It's really great for me to see the younger generation enjoying reading and marking up... Thank you for a good video on this subject. Watching from across the big pond as you popped up in my feed...
Just found your channel. It is so cozy, I love your vlogs! What a great way to get offline & focused back in your real life. I need more of this.
Thank you!
Just wanted to share my appreciation for you sharing this video. I picked up seriously reading this year after not reading regularly since high school over ten years ago and fell into the world of watching booktubers too. So I’ve always been intrigued by annotating but intimated by not knowing how to actually do it. I know there are no set rules but the not knowing is scary. I watched so many videos trying to learn how to annotate that although were cool, didn’t really help. You’re the first person who has shown it in a way that makes me confident enough to start annotating. I love your deep dive into how to, why to, and what to annotate. Thank you!
I just spotted Hollowpox on your shelf, and was wondering if you have read the Nevermoor series, and did you like it? Also just discovered you channel and have binged your videos LOVE them so much❤
I read the first one, Nevermoor, and loved it! I need to keep going with the series. Have you read it?
@sweetteatohightea Yeah I've kind of read all the books 3 times🫣 I read nevermoor when it came out as a kid, and absolutely LOVED it. It's definitely my comfort series, and you should really read the other two❤️❤️
This is such a great video! I was researching an easy way to explain annotation to my jr high students and this was perfect. ❤❤
So glad it was helpful!
my adhd issue is always jumping into the deep end. I literally purchased when the moon hatched because High lighting on the kindle was not doing it for me and i needed to FEEEEL the pages while i highlight and underline lol yolo.
Thank you for this video! So many great ideas. One thing I wanted to say was that with books, like a fantasy or any book with a lot of info, you can tab everything you think is important, then we get you further into the story (or even after you're finished) you can go back & underline/highlight/note what you found was important to remember. You can pick one color just for tabbing the "this might be important later" bits.
I wanted to start annotating books that I read within the genre that I want to self-publish a book in, to study and break down how different authors write and arrange their stories, to get a feel for the story beats and when they appear. This video is going to help me a lot with that. Thank you. Subbed!
this video is amazing, thank you!
i'm watching this because i wanted to annotate ACOMAF in its color scheme... seeing that you had done that too solidifed that this video was for me!! hahah
ACOMAF is an amazing book to annotate, would def recommend!
It was fun to watch and actually really useful thank you😊
I recently discovered your channel through your annotating 101 video, which was super helpful, and I am loving all of your content! I am feeling inspired, especially with fall approaching soon, to get into my cozy girl era.
Cozy girl era is the best!
Love love love this video!!! I'm a total beginner!
I would love to see a video on annotating. I really want to do this. Blessings.
This was helpful ❤ Especially for someone like me who likes things clean, some very useful tips...
I love this! I have wondered about annotating but didn’t really understand the reasoning and preferred supplies so thanks for sharing this🫶🏽
What supplies do you recommend ? I’m super new !
I'm going to try to link all my supplies in the description - stay tuned!
ah pumpkin heads has been on my tbr you’ve reminded me I need to pick up a copy!
Such a cozy and atmospheric read - definitely recommend!
Annotating is interesting and I want to try it, but I'm currently reading my cousins book which is fantasy so my compromise was to make my notes in a notebook, adding page numbers of the book and quotes and notes in it as well as my thoughts on it
I highly recommend the graphic novel sleepless by Sarah Vaughn!! Volume 1 is amazingggg
Love the way you annotate and i would really like to see more annotating videos where you read it out loud and give your toughts on everthing just like the last bit of the video🥰
Loving your videos. Thank you. So happy to have found your channel. I also love reading seasonally and decided to no longer focus on monthly wrap ups. So, this video came along at the perfect time. I'm in New Zealand, so I've been enjoying cosy, winter reads. I appreciate how you include middle grades in your videos as well. I work as a school librarian, so a huge amount of my reading now includes children's and YA books. I'm having so much fun and I recently parted with a lot of 'literary' titles that I was feeling the pressure to read. Thanks again for your relaxing and engaging videos.
That blowout though!!
Thank you so much for this information. This was the perfect “how to get started” for someone who wants to annotate but has no idea where to start.
Why highlight and underlining?
It adds a bit of extra emphasis to certain passages and words. I use each one differently and in very rare occasions both for one sentence when it really packs a punch.
Love those bookshelves! Thought I would mention them. I found your videos while learning to annotate better. Thanks for sharing. You have great presence and very soothing videos as well as great information.
Thank you so much - glad to have you here!
Could I submit a book for you to review (if you're interested in the summary?) It's middle grade but adults like it. I know you're busy, but I'd be happy to send a free copy. Thanks either way!
I love middle grade! Unfortunately I haven't yet set up a PO Box so can't receive anything yet. I will be in touch when I do!
Can you link the supplies you use?
Absolutely love this video. It is so informative and still not overwhelming. Thank you for making it so organized. Could you possibly link the supplies you do recommend and showed in this video?
I will link the items in the description here shortly!
Thank you!!! More please!!!!!
I've been watching a bunch of annotation videos since yesterday and this was THE best!! It is so in depth and you've given so many practical advice for beginners like not starting with a fantasy books and using pens sparingly. Gosh thank you so much! ❤
I'm so glad this was helpful!
off topic : your books look so good
Thank you! I constantly want to change them but then always land back on the rainbow!
Thank you so much for this vid! This makes it easier to get into annotating books (other than textbooks) ❤️
I’ll admit watching you writing on the book without a transparent removable triggered me a little xD
I'm new to the annotating scene, and I've been trying to figure things out. This was a very helpful video, much more thorough than the others (which I appreciate, being autistic and needing more direct guidance). That being said, I do have a bit of a question focused more on the "supply" part of things. How do you (or anybody who sees this who currently annotates) feel about gel highlighters? I have some currently, but I'm reluctant to use them because I don't know if they'll be good or not, especially for annotating books.
I think supplies can be a very individual preference but I will say from my experience anything with 'gel' in it (pens, highlighters, stickies) just don't appear as well as regular ones. But it all depends on the brand and how you use it so maybe try a test page in the back of the book and see how it comes off on paper!
Im 48 middle grade is my favorites 😊
Love this - Middle Grade is for everyone, no matter the age!
