Gatorskins Skateboard Surface
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 27 มิ.ย. 2016
Gatorskins, or "Gskins" is the most advanced skateboard ramp surface in the world. It is formulated for speed and performance while providing superior grip in indoor and outdoor environments. Manufactured by American workers in Hoquiam, Washington, Gatorskins is committed to helping the growth of real skateboard culture by keeping its product affordable to backyard ramp owners.

Preventing plywood delamination

A cheap, easy and effective method for preventing the early demise of the plywood transition templates and substrate layers on your ramp. My Dad owned a roofing company and he showed me this little hack years ago.
Weatherize your ramp!
มุมมอง 3.6Kปีที่แล้ว
A backyard ramp is a huge investment in time and money. Without prepping the base layers of plywood prior to installation of your surface panels you are setting yourself up for costly repairs and aggravation. The weatherization process is an added step and (slight) expense but you'll be glad you put in the work when the first downpour comes.
Tony Hawk rides Gator Skins

The greatest to ever do it can ride whatever surface he wants. At both his THI headquartered ramp and his demo ramp, Tony Hawk chose to roll on Gator Skins. We are pretty damn proud of that. Thanks Tony!

Sunday Session at Wasbai Ramp - Best Trick Contest
super helpful - i bought this and agree it's WAY sharper. however... i did notice that it's "not as smooth" if you drill first then countersink. When I countersink then drill it's butter smooth. Maybe my drill bit is bent? I prefer to stack panels, drill, then countersink because of the time savings (you can drill 8 panels at once). but when I "countersink then drill" on the deck it's noticeably smoother. Have you seen that at all? Wondering if there's a way to avoid this. thank you for posting these videos, they have been pure gold in helping me build my mini ramp.
Awesome... The DIY skatepark at 205 Hopkins Blvd in Biloxi,Ms. under a bridge just got some gaterskins ..So stoked...
The blade thickness you’re talking about.059 is close enough to be 1/16 =.0625. not1/8, 1/8= .125 😮😮😮
I have that blade and it’s the shit.
You da man, Garrett! Good info. I also went through a few countersink bits. Gator Skins is tough stuff!
This has to be the absolute best way to attach coping. I'm building a 3' mini right now, just followed this video on the first half, and I am very impressed. I kinda struggled with the drill angle but using a large washer helps distribute the load over the 2x4 so you can really crank it down. Coping feels way more snug than the sometimes questionable ramps I built growing up.
Does this still allow the ramp to breathe when sealing the seams like that? I heard you want to leave a 1/16" gap between seams for breathing. Does this affect that?
If painting the transition frames, will that sealant work overtop paint?
Great info! Definitely going to do this to add longevity. If I'm putting 2 (3/8") base layers down before the Gatorskins, should I do this to each base layer or just the top/2nd base layer (just under the Gatorskins)?
What’s the difference between Thompson’s weather seal and SkatePaint that is sold for way more money? Ideally I would like to go with the cheaper option but what am I missing?
I'm getting an indoor ramp soon and am hoping to set it up in my backyard. Do you have any videos or recommendations on setting up a cinderblock footing for the base of the ramp? I'm in Arizona. Mesa to be exact.
What is that metal spacer separating the sheets?
thankyou mate! awesome. im builin one for my daughter and didnt know how to do the coping so really appreciate. awesome
If you're unable to get gator skins, do you feel these steps will do a solid job of preserving your ramp? Thank you for sharing ✌️
I need to know the same thing. This comment is the only one without a reply.
Yes. This will make your ramp water resistant. Wood absorbs water and gets warped and damaged over time. This will slow down water damage for sure. 👍
Any reason why I shouldn't paint the plywoods bottom and 2x4s prior to install?
When you screw it in it’s gana break the seal
Also a matter of time and cost. You really want to focus on areas where water can pond. Vertical surfaces are not so much of a concern. Good idea to also treat wood touching the ground or wherever moisture will be.
hi witch size is recommended for the pipe? TY in advace! great video
Lock washer or aviation nut might be an idea. Good vid!
Dimensions on that ramp? Specifically the flatbottom? Thanks.
this works SO well
💞Wow🤍🤍🤍💜💜💜🤍💜
it looks like you've got two pieces of 1/4 in together here (6 plys) not 3/4 in ply right?
From the father of GATORSKIN to you thanks for shredding

Great tips and on point. Thanks for sharing. I'm originally from U.K now living in the Philippines and I'm planning to build an outdoor ramp here int he next couple of months. We also have monsoon season as well as temperatures up to 38 degrees so all this information was really helpful for me. Thanks!
Gotta sell your soul to sheath a ramp with this stuff . Then youve gotta give a testicle for delivery ! $180 - $200 a sheet . Fuuuuuuck
⛽️ more of this please
Excellent tutorial on weatherproofing wood ramps. My mother just had three indoor and one outdoor ramp for (cane, walker and wheelchair) accessibility at her home. The wood is unfinished and I will use both the DAP 40 year waterproof caulking and the Thompson's WaterSeal to all the ramps. Thank you!
where do you buy those screws though? Home Depot and Amazon do not seem to have them😕
best build video.
best tutorial for building ramp/pipe.
Yeah! Way to represent Earthless! And 6 years ago too!
Just sprayed flex seal.
What gauge n length screw for gator skins Framing and sheeting do you suggest
#8/9 - 2.5"
Do you guys tarp before big storms / winter seasons after weatherizing ramps that have gator skins? Wasn't sure if it's overkill or if humidity / moisture stuck under the tarp would do more damage than good.
Never a bad idea. If the ramp is going to be inactive and unskateable for long periods of time due to wetaher, tarping it off is always advisable.
Tarping is not overkill. The more the water sits on the ramp, the more it will do damage over time. Humidity will do less damage than standing water.
Love the Down in the background. Nice deep cut
;)
Great video. I would add a lock washer to that J bolt on the nut side. That would eliminate any chance of backing off over time and use.
I was thinking the same thing. Building my ramp now, lock washers are cheap and add a ton of reliability to the ramp.
Please share the blueprints to the wasbai ramp!
Best advice out there! Thanks
Thanks for the feedback 🙏🏻
Thanks man. Great vid. What do you think is the best type of plywood to use? 👌
Beautiful work
LOVE THIS EDIT!! :D
Smart way to avoid holes on the showing side
First time seeing the j bolt method, genius
great review from a legend
Blueprint plans for this ramp please!
Hi guy's Would love the plans for this ramp please 🙂
Hate to be that guy. use a Tek screw through a pre drilled guide hole. Much easier and never comes undone.
Great video. Can I have the design and construction dimensions of your backyard yard please
Miniramp 2' and 1/2, what radius you would recommend?
Great tips! Would you apply the Thompson's water seal on the top surface that you ride on? Curious about how the finish will feel as I wouldn't want the ramp to be too slippery
