Spring Silver - Gold Star
springsilver.bandcamp.com/
Lyrics:
There must still be a little wherewithal left
One last batch
cooling on a windowsill
cooling on a windowsill
Just a little bit of larger context to snatch from the mintbox
Little bit of lucidity still
Little bit of lucidity still
It’s a gold star on an open wound
But press it on I beg of you
It’s a gold star on an open wound
But press it on I beg of you
There has to be some lucidity
Left at a dip where the curb hits a roadside
Pooling like a rainbow slick
Pooling like a rainbow slick
Maybe not enough to nurse for a lifetime
But you could still savor it, while it lasts
It’s a gold star on an open wound
But press it on I beg of you
It’s a gold star on an open wound
But press it on I beg of you
There’s a craven utility
In this country
A desperate convenience
And we want and we search
behind the paywall
beyond the hourly parking
for a soul
We thought we could fill up the empty expanse within us
with accomplishment: a discount ‘love’
It’s a gold star on an open wound
But press it on I beg of you
It’s a gold star on an open wound
But press it on I beg of you
We’re bound to the notion
We must continually prove our worth
To maintain a space on this earth
so we grew and grew and
More and more space, we took up
Big, hollow just like a gold rubber balloon
We’re bound to the notion
We must continually prove our worth
To maintain our space
so we grew and grew and
More and more space, we took up
Big, shiny and insubstantial like a
gold star on an open wound
It’s a gold star on an open wound
I don’t know what’s beautiful anymore
I only know what’s loud

This video is SO ahead of its time what the fuck
Still accurate in 2025
He's good for his wealth of production techniques, musical instruction and access to interviews with musicians, producers, and engineers. He's also pompous and self righteous about his own taste and cultural takes. "He equates popularly with quality" absolutely and he will blend that with putting anything done by 70s-80s fusion or studio players on a pedestal ignoring how sterile and chessy, coke fueled pop for yuppies much of the stuff they were on was. He's so far up steve lukather and Steely Dan's ass while ignoring a huge breath of great music from the last 40 years.
Learned alot of this. Gonna try to make a song with good lyrics and beats. Great tip
9 out of 10. No snooty british accent
“Chapter 1, The Big Bang-“
5 years ago and is still so true. I already just choose to skip provocative titles. "Stop doing this" "You're wrong about X", etc. I love one video that says "I have been using Blender wrong, maybe you have too" because it's far more of a "lemme share my experience" approach than a "Sit down, Imma lecture you" invitation
Thirty seconds of failed takes mispronouncing a word. “Comedy.”
What about Ghost Circles and Treasure Hunters?
If this were made today, it would be a bloated 3 hour + video where the narrator dumbs down and over explains every single thing about a topic to stretch the length out as long as possible.
Annoys me when people use retrospective when they don’t, in fact, go into the context of the topic as it would have initially been experienced If you mean an overview of the episodes, or a review, or whatever then just say that. Essay and Analysis are not synonymous with looking at the topic’s most surface level
All of Video Essays are bull to be honest waste of time
I distinctly remember seeing those first two pre-scholastic covers as a kid. And yeah, bit of a downgrade.
My music? Mysterious meaning.
I hate it when they do something like „but to truly understand the topic, we have to go back to the beginning” And then they explain how music was created by cavemen banging sticks and rocks
Missing the obligatory segway of capitalism being the main source of the problem.
Not 3 hours long 0/10
I remember reading this when i was 7 , i moved to another school and never saw it again
Still relevant to this day
This video was ahead of its time
No, it is just the same
No, time just hasn't changed
@@Leon_SKennnedyyou just said what I said
0:53 Seeing Thorn descend like a shadow to rescue the Bones, wielding the club of Kingdok in front of a group of cowering Rat Creatures, is so fucking badass.
Your voice is far too friendly and humble, you need to get real cose to the mic and force a load of vocal fry so you can pretend you have a deeper manlier voice than you really do
Reminds me of that era of pngtubers constantly confusing animation and art style
"the beatles created music" >caveman in the distance with a look of " :( " as he was historically the first one to create percussion music with his comically large battering club
Tbh I still prefer the Scholastic covers for "the Great Cow Race" and "Crown of Horns". The rest are wayyyyyy cooler tho
When the video is just a retelling of some form of storyline rather than an actual analysis </3
This dude predicted several channels made in the future LMAO
Great video! Now i can replicate your exact view to my friends as if it was my own to sound more intelligente and cult than i actually am, thank you!
you forgot the part where you need to make your viewers feeel like bad people for likeing the beatles as the are " problomatic." due to your poltical views.
Don't forget to use the word "insane"
you forgot to start the song with the definition of a word
Impossible to capture in the video is users commenting in the comment section how amazing "the graphics" are and how improved they are since the channel cropped up, and there's always tens of them at the top.
I'm tired of video essay channels making it to the top of the algorithm and making irrelevant topics and problems something important in the collective mind...
I legit thought this was a satire on video essays being used as a school assignment, mainly because it encapsulates that same soulless energy of creating something out of necessity, rather than because you want to, although in this case it’s for views and ad revenue, as opposed to a class grade.
I do hope if even possible Jeff finds a way to make a new part 2 to the to the original series with a new story and threat maybe even the bones and Fone bone specifically reunite with thorn too! ^^
I can’t believe I remember seeing covers 1-3 on my library bookshelves. What a flashback!
Midwest emo prog
I had no idea any of the books had old covers.
0:36 this cover gives Phoney so much more aura than he actually has in the books
I am this level hater
Can't forget the six hour long video essays where 90% of it is summarizing the original media and having nothing to say about it
They really do tho.
The movie """"analysis"""" essays that are actually just a rundown of the plot
wasn't half an hour, didn't waste enough of my time
been a hard lesson for me to learn. sometimes 5-10 minutes is mildly interesting and then i stick around hoping for more and only get less and less.
To be fair, I never would’ve picked up the series as a kid if they had the pre-scholastic covers. I think scholastic was marketing the fun side of the series to younger audiences, and I’m glad for it, because otherwise I never would’ve read one of the greatest series of graphic novels ever. That being said, all of the pre-scholastic covers go insanely hard.
I see all the fucking mr beast fans who cant handle more than 15 minutes of information have gathered
What?
i love video essays, theyre like tv static injected directly into my brain that helps me concentrate when i put them in the background. theyre like those tlc shows or telenovelas youd watch when folding laundry
one of my college roommates would watch grey's anatomy on tv, a second episode on her laptop with an earphone in, while working on her homework. never met someone else like her.
0:39 Idk why, but i love how for some reason he puts a random ass black and white photo of Interpol when talking about The Beatles
It's his son Dylan.
Your misinterpretation of what he is saying is precisely what he’s talking about!
