Desiccant Dehumidification with Innovative Air Technologies
Desiccant-based dehumidification transfers moisture in its vapor phase from the air to the surface of a desiccant through adsorption, without the need to “condense” water on a chilled cooling coil. This allows desiccant technology to achieve absolute moisture conditions much lower than possible using more traditional refrigerant based cooling systems that dehumidify by making the air cold.
Desiccant based systems are utilized for applications requiring 45% relative humidity down to 1% (or less) and many times are the only dehumidification solution that will work. Desiccant dehumidification can be more efficient, economical, and sustainable than its refrigeration-based counterpart, particularly when lower indoor temperatures and reduced relative humidities are required.
This presentation will delve into the dynamics of designing and maintaining energy-efficient and sustainable desiccant dehumidification systems for various market segments. It will provide attendees with an understanding of the following:
A. How desiccant dehumidification works and how components interact to provide a thermodynamically eloquent moisture removal system.
B. Why desiccant based dehumidification differs from that of more traditional refrigerant based DX or chilled water methods, and why this is important in achieving lower indoor moisture conditions.
C. The myriad of applications including hospitals, clean rooms, pharmaceutical, food processing, archival storage, aerospace, and others where desiccant dehumidification is the perfect solution.
D. Why dedicated desiccant dehumidification equipment can perform independently of the space sensible heat ratio (SHR), eliminating associated frosting and freezing issues that traditional cooling coils face when trying to achieve low leaving air temperatures.
After this presentation attendees will be equipped to apply their newfound knowledge in designing dehumidification systems that may be better positioned to achieve outstanding environmental performance and improved energy-efficiency.

Superb thank you
Presenter is easy to understand and follow. Overall a great video! Greetings from the UK
If we have a fan just as a propeller, without any electric motor, how can I size and select a driver for it( considering the BHP)? Should I divide the BHP in the fan curve by the efficiency of the electric motor?
Good ❤
you lost me on hertz
Are these AirMaid systems effective for cleaning extra-heavy-duty exhaust from solid-fuel commercial cooking applications? If so, is there other equipment required to be part of the design, such as filters, when the exhaust air is discharging through the side of a building in a densely populated area?
To my knowledge, you can use with solid fuel systems. Note, this will not reduce the smoke, only grease and odor. The grease hood can filter and you could use a scrubber though they are expensive. We have also used an Electro Static Precipitator (ESP) by Purified Air. This will remove smoke, odor, and grease. Comes with a little more maintenance as it catches grease. Talk to your local reps about options.
For those wanting to look into it in more detail, the "Do not operate region" is where a couple of undesirable conditions known as "surge" and "stall" occur. In surge, you typically have a more or less unrestricted inlet, and a large volume of air downstream that can allow pressure to build up without escaping. In stall, you have a flow restriction greater than the maximum static pressure the fan can achieve. Because the fan can't generate enough pressure to get the air moving freely, the flow rate gets stuck in the stall trough. It's not really visible with the fan selected for the video example, but other fan curves can have rather dramatic valleys in them towards the left side of the curve. Hunting is not an inherent behavior of the fan, it's found when the fan is controlled with a feedback loop (a PID in some form or another), most commonly controlled off of static pressure. If you try to operate in a region of the curve where one static pressure can indicate two different flow rates, you end up in a situation where the controls endlessly ramp the fan speed back and forth, or endlessly move a damper, because it can't settle in to a single operating point.
what you say is indeed more accurate, hunting is pid loop and is different from stall region
Why can’t I change playback speed on this video?
This was incredibly helpful, thank you!
Thank you for this video, really appreciate this👌🏾
27:00 Thank you so much for such a great explanation! I work in controls and could not understand the purpose of the bypass damper when VFD is used. If I understood correctly, we can skip the bypass when variable geometry nozzles are used with VFD
Correct. The bypass damper is used to control static pressure in the ductwork AND maintain outlet velocity. In this scenario the VFD is used only to balance the fan. With a variable geometry nozzle, you can vary the speed of the fan and use the nozzle to maintain outlet velocity.
can you provide us with the cfm/ft for all type of hoods? thanks
😔 'Promo SM'
Yes technically all of these are promos. We do our best to train and provide design/application based information.
Is this chart just for your fans, or any fan in any system.
Here, it is generally mentioned how to choose fans theoretically and how to read fan curves. These curves and values will change for each model fan, but the logic will remain the same.
