The Allan Holdsworth Archives aims to present rare and unreleased recordings related to guitarist Allan Holdsworth (1946-2017). The Allan Holdsworth Archives is a not-for-profit private endeavor, which is not in any way affiliated with the Holdsworth estate. Currently, we are also working on building curated playlists of unreleased live recordings found on TH-cam. The current playlists are drafts, and sorted by year. If you have a video that you think should be included in the playlists, please get in touch by the inbox. Also check our Facebook page and the Allan Holdsworth Information Center on the web.

I recorded this myself, and I managed to get roughly half the gig to tape. Allan states that this was the first public performance of "Low Levels, High Stakes". This was my first Holdsworth concert, and I had traveled the whole day by train to get there. It was a sacred moment, as a friend of mine put it. Enjoy! Allan Holdsworth: Letters Of Marque (Frankfurt '86 Experimental Remix)
มุมมอง 342K4 ปีที่แล้ว
This video is an experimental remix of Allan's performance of "Letters Of Marque" from the Frankfurt '86 jazz festival. The audio and video is sourced from the 2020 release by Manifesto Records, links below. The master tape was taken from the two-channel broadcast version, which has some issues with levels, in particular the drums suffer in the mix. To see what could be done about this, the ste...

cool
Allan Holdsworth has always had excellent guys in his band, but this might be my favorite. Johson's sound and style 🤟 Plus, Gary Husband has so good sound in his drums. His playing fits perfectly to Holdsworth's guitar
Wow according to JJ the keyboard player was underrehearsed with the band?? You sure can't tell lol!!
I'm sorry but.. the keyboard player really outshines everyone in this video.. what a ridiculous tasteful onslaught of a free form composition.
This is a gem- thanks for sharing it!
Galactus in action! the short phrase that he does from minute 3.40 to start then the bombardment of bursts of notes with the long phrase from minute 3.46 to minute 4.04 is unbelievable! This inhuman is blowing a guitar. Eric Dolphy would faint if he had seen and heard it! Thank you Maestro Allan for being on earth! We still can't stop being amazed every day at what you have done with such ease that for many is impossible with such difficulty. PLEASE ALLAN HOLDSWORTH COME BACK!! 🙏🙏🙏
Good stylistic impressions, but Holdsworth is the only genius here. Thanks for posting
Alan did not need an internet to be kind of universal online
I have great respect for Gary Husband. And I know Allan likes his drummers to slam. But seriously, it’s like a drum solo over the form, way way too much and way way too loud. See Gary Novak with Allan, suddenly the songs come alive because they can breathe more. The problem with fusion very often was that it becomes a macho riff fest. And harmonic content and feeling get buried Just my feeling about it
I put this masterpiece in the playlist of a big family birthday with 150 people in the french countryside , just for trolling the normative reality, my cousin went to me to say " it was very chill , you know , your song i like it " haha . Another convert .
Kai Akagi is THE pwrfect guy for this, too bad he wasn't with Allan for a decade This piano work is phenominal
This was great. Thanks!
That is so crazy!
great. sound is very good, lots of details and seperation
Thanks!
Saw Allen everytime at the Kuumba We were thinking about kidnapping him to my friend Hughs place and have him give us a couple of lessons. Then we would spend time in jail for kidnapping charges where we would have lots of time to practice
10:31 floor tom/bass drum thingy
Very cool.
I can't believe he did not do tapping to get all the wide intervals!
Why does he rock back and forth while he's playing?
Because humans like to move and sometimes get carried away, which can be expressed physically? bruh
@SimulacronX Carried away? It was as if he was in a rocking chair. However, there was no chair. What would possess somebody to rock back and forth to this extreme besides drugs or lack thereof?
it's called "feel" lol
@mercuryorsomething Is that what they call drug withdrawal nowadays? I mean, he could've knocked down walls on either side with the force of each rock. I'd hate to have him walk past me and accidentally bump my shoulder.
Such a great question! I've often wondered why he rocks back and forth like this. It's as if someone is controlling his body movements, such as a puppet master. The force with which he moves back and forth with is indescribable. His core must be incredibly strong!
Husband na bateria
I showed my girlfriend this and she said “sounds like club penguin”
I showed this to my wife - now I sleep on a sofa in sitting room )))
😂😂😂
The unique, incredible talent of Allan Holdsworth. And such a thoroughly nice guy as well, so humble. Rest in peace.
Drum solo was about as long as Moby's dick. Excessive.
6:28 LOLOLOL
めちゃくちゃうめえけど ベースソロつまらんな まあジャズ畑の奴はこんなもんか テクニックだけじゃ響かんのよ だが、ホルズワースは違う なぜなら変態だからだ
Incredible playing. I was lucky enough to see him 5 times I think, always amazing, but some of those rubs from about 4 minutes on are just so articulate, and they say something, it's not just some guy playing fast. There will never be anyone who comes close to what Allan can say on guitar. Despite the sync issue this clip shows him on top form, thanks for posting.
Haha. RUNs, not rubs!
Saw this tour, life changing🤘🏻🎸
Needs more cow bell. I bought an A Holdsworth signature git in the 80’s. Promptly followed by tendinitis. That was that.
He's on acid. That's why I never liked him. The people in the audience feel like they are riding a hideous fair ride ready to vomit. This guy sucks.
The most innovative and technically astute player on any instrument.
Not sure about this stuff. Exceptionally gifted instrumentalists. Doesn’t seem to be any music happening. Piano player is out there though
he is playing an earlier Ibanez road star "RG"
Allan was the best guitar player ever.
Gary Husband is a giant ❤

What a band. Four amazing soloists. Kei Akagi was on fire, by the way.
Wow!Great musicians.I love that old school jazz.

maybe i´m wrong, but it´s looks like 5 strings on a 4 string bass
That's Jimmy's custom Alembic, that he's been using since 1976: Two Alembic Series II five-strings afford Johnson the extended range necessary to wax adventurous without being abrasive. A devotee since 1976, he was one of the first bassists in L.A. to work with an extra string. He credits his discovery of the instrument to his father's symphony bass experience: "They usually have an extension on upright basses that goes down to low C. I was trying to figure out how to do that on electric, and my dad said, ‘Well, there's also five-string basses.' They were making them back then, but with a high C, and I preferred the bottom. I don't have a whole lot of desire to go higher than the bass can go." (Guitar World 1989)
Against Holdsworth you have to hold your own. Kei Akagi did an admirable job here, incredible in fact. Some of those licks he pulled off were on another planet. What an absolutely phenomenal line up of talent.
He’s having his Marty mcfly moment
My goodness … he hardly looks at the fretboard
This is the highest level of musicianship
Class. I use to see Kei play with Peter Sprague, Tommy Brechtlein and John Leftwich in Solana Beach, CA back in the late 80s. Helluva band. Later I saw him with Miles. Always brought the A game and a neat guy.
Hey, I know that piano man from Airto and Flora! 🎹
кто куда....бред какой то
What a wonderful video and what a wonderful job you've done! I enjoyed every second! Thanks for investing you time into making this legendary performance sound more distinct and perfect. And thanks to great Allan and the musicians for their talend! Allan is my latest discovery - and I fail to find anything and anybody close to him yet.
Brilliant!!!
