Going on a mock progress check - Cessna 172S 22nd Flight VLOG
This is a short mock progress check just so I can practice for the actual progress check that'll happen the next week from the recording of this video. Just going through the paces so I can get more flight time. Still have a lot of "polishing" to do for everything, but hopefully it'll be good enough to pass the progress check.

Redemption flight! Chair flying and mental visualization works 100% - Cessna 172S 21st Flight VLOG
I did it. After the previous disastrous mock pre-solo progress check flight, I went home, wrote out a list of procedures that is specific to our plane and started memorizing them all. Also wrote up some flashcards for the 5 required maneuvers so I can practice them at random. Came out the next day, almost didn't get to fly because of a weird fog layer, but it burned off in time for me to be abl...
Screwing every maneuver up in my pre-solo practice - Cessna 172S 20th Flight VLOG
This video is hard to re-watch. I was absolutely not prepared for my pre-solo practice flight. This was supposed to be a mock pre-solo progress check that the Snohomish Flying School conducts before we start Phase 5. I could fly the plane but I did not remember the procedures for all the required maneuvers and I could not do any of them correctly. ◆ Snohomish Flying Service : www.snohomishflyin...
First time flying into strong winds and whoa! what an experience - Cessna 172S 17th Flight VLOG
What a great opportunity for me to experience flying in strong winds. I've only ever flown in light wind conditions but this time round, it was 9-13kt with winds gusting up to 29kt. Wade was right, you learn faster when you challenge yourself and this was definitely a challenging flight. ◆ Snohomish Flying Service : www.snohomishflying.com/ ◆ Harvey Airfield: harveyfield.com/ ◆ Music: Upside Do...
Refresher flight after 3 weeks of downtime - Cessna 172S 16th Flight VLOG
It's been a long three weeks since I've flown due to scheduling conflicts, PTO and weather. Finally got to do it and boy it shows, especially in this phase of my learning process. At least Wade said that I physically can fly the plane, it's just that mentally I've forgotten the steps to do certain maneuvers and haven't carved it into my memory. Since the weather here in the beautiful Pacific No...
Unexpected Emergency Maneuvers & more - Cessna 172S 15th Flight VLOG
Today's flight was a really eye opening one where I got to experience task saturation and succumbing to my basic instincts for survival. We got to practice power on and power off stalls, engine out scenarios, engine out during takeoffs and while in the pattern coming in for a landing. We used sideslips to slow the plane down for landing with some crosswind. I was so worried about not getting th...
Learning sideslips, stalls & emergency descents - Cessna 172S 14th Flight VLOG
This was a really fun lesson. Weather was great so Wade took me up to practice some stalls and learn how to put out an engine fire by descending really quickly and steeply. This was a really scary yet fun experience to purposely make the plane dive and to feel the g-forces of the maneuver. We also practiced some sideslips to slow down the plane as we come into landing. Did not have good landing...
Emergencies & Ground Reference Maneuvers - Cessna 172S 13th Flight VLOG
This lesson covers what to do during emergencies, learning about what to do when your engine dies mid-flight. The weather wasn't good but according to Wade, was great for learning to fly because of the strong winds. He took the opportunity to teach me more about ground reference maneuvers circling around a large flagpole in the Lake Stevens practice area. All in all, another great learning expe...
First time landing in a runway with a control tower - Cessna 172S 12th Flight VLOG
For this week's lesson, Wade took me out to a bigger airport with larger runways and a control tower. I was super nervous about communicating with another person on the other end of the radio. I've watched numerous videos online from other amazing creators in the aviation community and heard lots of radio chatter but none of it has prepared me for the actual task. I've always told myself that w...
Back from a 2 week hiatus to do more pattern work and landings in a Cessna 172S - 11th Flight VLOG
Didn't get to fly for two weeks as I missed my first lesson and then got sick for another week. Finally managed to feel better and came out to continue my flying lessons with Wade. As a true instructor, he suggested that we do some pattern work and landings to get up to speed, and rebuild my proficiency before doing more challenging exercises. Doing touch-n-go landings in an unfamiliar airport in a Cessna 172S - 10th Flight VLOG
This is the first lesson in the Phase 3 syllabus which covers landings. Wade took me out to another nearby non-towered airport in Arlington, WA (KAWO). I was all kinds of flustered during this flight seeing completely new things, new airport and runways, and different radio calls etc. Wade definitely stretched my capabilities, which is the right thing to do, so I can learn and improve my skills...
Anxious and nervous going through the Phase 2 Progress Check in a Cessna 172S - 9th Flight VLOG
At the end of Phase 2 the school requires that all student pilots go through a progress check, to ascertain if they still need some work or they get to go to on. I believe there are 4 progress checks before the actual Checkride to get your private pilot's license. I was lucky enough to get to fly with Erik Byland who is the Chief Flight Instructor at the Snohomish Flying Service. He did a fanta...

How I perform a Preflight Check for a Cessna 172S - 8th Flight VLOG
Each school probably has a slightly different way to perform a pre-flight checklist, taking into consideration their fleet of planes and their processes. Thought I'd just document how the school teaches their students how to perform a pre-flight checklist on a Cessna 172S. I probably missed a step here and there, called a part wrong or did something that made an experienced pilot cringe but thi...
