I'm surprised that Frank E. didn't know where the name "Sweet Shop" originated. The band called themselves "Sweet Shop" because they would practice playing in a room on top of a sweet shop.

I live in Jakarta, Indonesia. One day, when I was a child, around the early 1980s, I was at home and the radio was on. At that time, a radio station was playing an un-English song, with its music arrangements unique and beautiful. A female singer sang that song. That music came into my soul and I remembered the tune. After some years, I heard this song again. I wanted to know the title of that song, but I could not do anything. I kept that question in my own mind. When I was a young teenager around 1987, I played my father's cassette because I had no other entertainments; we were poor and I could not afford buying games, story-books, sorts of. In that cassette, I could hear a nice song. A female singer sang "Where's your mama gone?...". I also found another nice song. Male singers sang together singing, "Yellow River, yellow river...". Around 2004-2005, I touched a computer for the first time. I "met" the so-called Internet. I found TH-cam there. I watched music videos there and I was happy. One day, I watched a music video that gave me detailed information about the songs in my father's cassette. At that time, I found "Chirpy Chirpy Cheep" (Middle of the Road). Hence, I knew the singers and the title of the song. The other day in another year, I tried to find "Yellow River" on TH-cam. I found Christie singing that song, BUT the music arrangements were different. I knew nothing about this song. Many years after that I happened to find "Yellow River". This time, the singers were not Christie, but Middle of the Road. While being curious to know, I clicked the video. There, I heard the very same song that I found in my father's cassette. I smiled happily and watched that music for several times on TH-cam. On another day, I watched music videos again. I happened to see "El Condor Pasa" (Simon and Art Garfunkel). I clicked it and heard the music that was like that which I had heard from radio when I was very young, but the singers' voice was different. I tried to find other videos that had the same title. Finally, I found "El Condor Pasa" (Middle of the Road). This is the very song which I once heard. I was very happy. I did not know in what kind of language that Peruvian song was sung, but it was not in Spanish. Many weeks after that, I learnt that it was sung in Italian. Later, I knew the female singer's name "Sally Carr". I love you, Sally and Middle of the Road. Thank you for your beautiful music. I love your "El Condor Pasa, Chirpy Chirpy Cheep, Yellow River and...starting from 2003: Soley Soley. This lattest I once heard when I was very little, but almost forgot. I just remembered the tune.

This guy has no luck at all including this interview where a concrete buster it's making all kinds of racket during this interview. It seems between the two of you that at least one of would be smart enough not yet interview a place where you couldn't hear because of the construction work going on. I'm going to stop here because it only gets worse. This interviewshould be redone in a quieter environment, so I can tell what the hell is being said.... NO WONDER HE GOT FIRED YOU BOTH ARE IDIOTS. All I hear it's that damn equipment.

I remember seeing her in 1971 at the Jack of Diamonds in Balloch, Loch Lomond. The were called L’os Caracas then and they were brilliant, never forgotten that.

•This is a Intriguing interview• I have to admit I of course have always known of Sweet • But haven't really 'got into' them until maybe about 15 years or so ago • having kicked myself I carry on and continue to buy the Music and keep up on Andy's activities as well • Frank Torpey seems like a 🆒 guy!

Thank you for doing the interview. Frank is obviously such a nice guy! I'm happy to hear his life turned out so well.

I have mixed memories of that song. That is a really good song but it brought back very sad memories for me. I lost my mother a month before my 7th birthday and the children at school kept singing the chorus to me specially the girls. I didn't know what was happening to me at the time but it was bullying. How could a 7 year old child know it was bullying. There was no help in the early 1970s at that time. I still carry this emotional pain today.

This is really great: a little piece of rock history. Very interesting. What an amazing band The Sweet became.
