IRAN Nomadic Life: A mix of making tea on the firewood, making a clay oven and baking bread
Life in the heart of mountains and plains is full of simple tasks, each of which tells a part of the history and culture of a people.
The first and most important part of a nomad's day is making tea. But this tea is different from the teas we drink in urban houses. Nomads make their tea on clay or stone stoves. These ovens are made in a simple and primitive way and are usually made with clay, mud or stones.
One of the daily tasks of nomads is milking sheep or cows. Milking is an important part of nomadic life because milk is very important for the preparation of dairy products such as cheese, yogurt and butter.
One of the challenges of nomadic life in the heart of nature is water supply. In remote areas, water is transported from natural sources such as springs, rivers or even from water tankers. To wash dishes, water from tankers located near the nomads' residences is usually used.
These tankers are usually made of plastic or metal and collect water from distant springs or other water sources. To wash dishes, nomads usually use this water, but due to water limitations, they are always careful not to waste it unnecessarily.
Baking bread on teak is one of the traditional and old methods in nomadic culture, which is still common in some regions of Iran and other countries in the region. This cooking method gives a unique taste to the bread and shows a native art and the deep relationship of man with nature and simple tools.
This tool is mostly used in mountainous areas and remote villages and is placed on the fire or next to it to be used for baking bread. Teak is very suitable for baking thin and crispy breads due to the hot and uniform surface it creates.
In this video, you will see how to make a clay oven, wash dishes with a tank, make fire tea and bake bread on teak.
