I think by corrupting his audience in this way, he’s kind of testing their morality. If you can successfully dig past the on-screen coolness and badassery of these characters, and recognize their moral reprehensibility, you’ve succeeded in passing his test.

In inglorious bustards, these characters are only so murderous because of the bad people they are against, if in another world they would likely be better people but because the enemy is moral corrupt the only way to fight the enemy is too to become morally corrupt

Butch is the best of a bad bunch. hes a shady guy who fucked over marcellus for a large sum of money, killed the guy who marcellus sent to kill him and given the chance would of killed marcellus, but he also stopped him getting raped(anymore) and murdered by mental hillbillies. That makes him a good guy in my eyes. Could of done nothing and left him to his fate, instead he saves him. I dont think Tarantino corrupts the audience, he highlights the different shades of grey in human behaviour. You have good criminals and bad cops, an action most of the time isnt the moral issue, its why you acted, the context behind the action. Thats where the morality lies. Murdering people is not ok, murdering murderers however, thats ok.

Is anyone concerned with the fact that Tarantino has many scenes in some of his movies that have very severe violent actions towards women? Sure, they are bad women but, how many times was Jennifer Jason Leigh's character punched in the face while she was tied up in The Hateful 8? What about Brad Pit's character torturing Diane Kruger's character (who was innocent by the way) in Inglorious Bastards? Even Once Upon A Time In Hollywood the way Brad Pit brutally destroys Madisen Beaty's character... ? How about going back to when he was the writer of the movie True Romance. In the latter example, sure that was a bad guy played by James Gandolfini brutally beating and torturing Patricia Arquette's slightly morally corrupt character, (Also he did not direct that film but I wonder how much of the scene he actually detailed in the script), but still... in the Theatrical release, Holly Hell. Am I the only one who is uncomfortable with these scenes? Don't get me wrong, Tarantino is one of my favorite writer/directors of all time but... woah... I mean, seriously?

Tarantino seems to be holding a mirror to society, we all see ourselves as the good guy but no one is 100% good. Mother Theresa was sainted for her selfish desire to help others because she enjoyed doing so. But society hypocritically ignores her selfish motivation(s).

I think Tarantino designs conflicted characters and how he portrays their conflicted nature through their actions on screen allows the viewer to let their own morality decide the perception. I also think he intentionally likes to build up and challenge the audience's assumptions about the character's morality to shed some light on the individual viewers' morality.

He can't corrupt us because we are all corrupt. We were kicked out of the Garden of Eden and these characters are probably what we'd do if we were good at crime. The crime fiction genre appeal is seeing things from the bad guy's perspective. And bad might mean different things depending on the situation. Eg if you were a Rebel in the Star Wars universe the empire would see you as the bad guy, but if you were a Imperial Stormtrooper you would see the religious nutters known as Jedi as extremists since religious guys with psi powers and lightsabers are SOO dangerous because of their power level alone. Secular people don't believe in good or bad, right or wrong. They see themselves as animals with high intelligence (the beleif that they descend from monkeys has something to do with it) so what they see as "normal" is not the same as religious people. If you are an animal you think acting on instincts and animal drives is ok because that's part of nature. The good animal is the survivor, and the bad ones are the ones that can't survive the concrete jungle. (survival of the fittest) For left wing guys they worship the God of Forces. That is they worship POWER. If they have power they get security from all the other animals that are in competition with them in trying to get powerful. So all these crime stories are just competitions of power strugglers. Like when you watch a sport like Boxing and you don't really see either side as good or bad but cheer for whoever wins the fight. Nobody likes losers. We like winners. So which animal wins is the Good guy for secular audience. He is the champion of the monkey men. The alpha male. The apex predator. The survivor in the concrete jungle. The TV shows "Power" and "Breaking Bad" are both examples of this where the baddie feels justified at what they do because they ACTUALLY SUCCEED in not getting caught (the power they attain taking the easy path brings them financial security and other things) meaning the universe must have a purpose for them to be bad. Perhaps God wants to use the bad guy to punish other bad guys first before he judges them later? But we like those characters because it's potentially what we could have been if we had gone a different path. It's like what 'Alternate Universe You' might have become if you were forced to be the bad guy. (Falling Down and The Joker come to mind - they have reason to go down the dark side due to circumstances out of their control) One popular right wing version of bad guys is the "anti-hero" who punishes the bad guys with hyper violent actions. The Punisher, and Mad Max are examples of that: they are concerned with bringing order and if the criminals piss them off, they turn to revenge and vigilante lifestyle to correct things. (very popular amoung the comic book crowd - Judge Dredd could be thought of as the poster boy for a character that would stomp out all the Tarantino characters with extreme prejudice because the world isn't big enough for bad guys to have that much freedom in dystopian world. Judges have the power of Judge, Jury and Executioner and this is the power fantasy of the cops who are sick of seeing bad guys get away with things all the time)

Good guys have to be put into conflict. Aragorn is one of my favorite characters ever, but unless orcs show up you know he's going to get his way out of trouble by pulling the Gondorian heir card, and it even works with ghosts! Walter White is the other side of the coin. EVERY character has a reason to screw him over.

8:10 hahahaha this movie is garbage written by a writer who just wants to vent his anger, but he vented his anger with excellent direction. The Jews are no less bad than Nazis. Frankly, they are as bad as Nazis, but I have to admit that they are more intelligent. Palestine, the recent events and killing of thousands of Palestinian civilians currently, and the testimonies of Jews who hate Zionism. Sufficient evidence. Perhaps your point is that the Jews of this period are less bad than the Nazis, but despite this film, you feel that its depth is less than a film like Django Unchained. The film resembles my childhood fantasies when I imagine myself and Kurdish revolutionaries killing Saddam Hussein’s soldiers.
