Honda Transalp Suspension - Rough Bitumen?
มุมมอง 434หลายเดือนก่อน
I had a TH-cam comment about the Honda Transalp Suspension Upgrade and how it feels on rough country bitumen roads. Upgrading the suspension on my Honda Transalp has been a game-changer for tackling rough country bitumen. The stock setup was decent for general road riding, but on those bumpy, uneven stretches where road maintenance seems like a distant memory, it was a bit of a bone shaker. Aft...

Love the pronunciations 😂 Tassie is great to ride The roads are fantastic
Just winging them 😂 best riding I’ve done ever was today in Tasmania 🤝
@ west coast Queenstown to Hobart through 99 bends and derwent bridge is fantastic
Would be great to tour Tassie on a bike. Stay safe.
For sure is a bucket list ride 🤝
Looking forward to this!👍🏻
Hope you like it! Any input?
@ Just keep doing what you’re doing really. The interaction with other bikers/locals is always good. And don’t forget to give us the names of places you pass through, even if it’s just flashed up on the screen. But all good Jimmy!
You did great with the video ! 👍 I am off to TAZ in a two weeks myself . Will be my 4th time , I look forward to more of your videos .
Great to hear! I’m loving it so far. Amazed myself today doing the western explorer highway🤯
Is it still $400 return bike and rider
Double these days $400 each way 🤯
Well done. Hopefully the crossing to Tasmania is a smooth sail, can get rough. Looking forward to seeing your Transalp Tasmania Tour. Excellent place to explore on motorcycle. Enjoy 👍🇦🇺🏍️
Sail went smoothly, loving it so far and the Transalp is taking it all on with ease 🤝 I think you will enjoy what’s coming up 😁
Epic content 🍿🍿🍿
Thank you @clubmunchies ❤️
Well done, enjoyed your video
Plenty more to come, Any input I’m happy to hear it,
Cool 👍 Have a good time bro
Thank you, epic place so far and I’ve only been 20k
Hehe your town pronunciations are cracking me up….but great content mate. When you’re here in Tassie don’t believe the distance times, add at least 30%. You’ll see why when you are here.
There’s some tricky ones for sure🤣 Yeah taking me half a day just to go 20k but I’m a little exited
Leave a comment, You liking the content?
Mate hit the west coast i live out here weathers good, nice ride down murchison hwy near cradle mountain this time of year and make sure you hit Strahan best sopt on the island!.
Cheers mate, going to head down to Strahan soon. Heading Stanley way round. 👌
Well done 👍 Nice bike. Tasmania is a great place for motorcycle touring, you’ll enjoy it. Recommendation Western Explorer, dirt (Hwy) road along western Tasmania, easy dirt road. Anyway plenty of places to visit & explore. Enjoy! New Sub. Cheers 🍻🇦🇺🏍️👍
Way to go mate, enjoy yourself.
Thanks mate, Already having fun and still sat on boat waiting to leave lol
It’s a long night on the boat without a cabin, And winging it is the only way to travel!!
After 7 half’s hours riding straight today, fair to say I could sleep in the bathroom and not be fussed, buggered Looking forward to just being lost in a new place
Mate you might want to amend the video title, Tasmania is in Australia. It's like saying I'm going from England to Cornwall 😂😂
I think I will. I seen everyone got offended lol, Any ideas?
@@JimmyHutchisonTransalp Tasmania
I'm a current Honda CB500X rider. Eventually when it comes time for another bike, the Transalp could be the bike I choose. Will be good to watch your adventures and see how it all goes for you and the Transalp. What's your camera and audio setup? I use a Dji Osmo Action5 Pro for video and 2 X Dji wireless Mic minis for audio. (have subscribed)
Hi Sean I been following you on the forums for a while and think you would love Transalp big difference in comfort and power, for me the seating position it worth it alone upright not hunched over like the cb with the footpegs aiiming back
Running the same mate dji was using insta360 but mics changed that
@@JimmyHutchison Sound good. The Transalp is definitely still on my "wish list" for somewhere down the tack.
Is that and adjustable windscreen on your Transalp mate? If you need any road recommendations ask away as I live around Hobart 😊
Yes mate just a cheap online one, I find it spot on for me with the enduro helmet no wind at all, I might do a pub night if a few people keen👍
Thanks for showing Australia

100kg here …that fork dive can be negated by rear brake application …how taller is bike now with suspension work done ? How tall are you ? Your inseam ? Important info for your viewers I have the taller screen , bloody hot above 30 degrees ..but standing up helps a lot …clean air and oh so cool.
Hi mate . Could you supply the total cost ? Thinking of updating the terrible rear shock on my 23 TA or trading it in on the 25 model …depending on price…also my TA after 12000km service and new Dunlop Mixtours tyres has developed a low speed wobble after 600km on new tyres ..it only occurs with hands off bars. But it is worrying …never had an issue before . Cheers …can you pick the Trans Alp off the deck when you drop it ?
Nice video. My transalp has had the rear shock re valved and its fairly plush. But I'm struggling with a bit of a "bounce" feeling from the front on real smooth ashphalt. Through town on very smooth pavement its really annoying. I find it pretty good everywhere else to be fair. Ive got rear set quite soft and front quite stiff on the preload. Wondering whether I tweak that, upgrade the front shocks, or get rid of the karoo street tyres. Or is it just how these style of bikes are!
Do you have the eiback spring reference, thanks for sharing the information
thats no speed test bro, thats just a take off. We want to see a speed test
rides in a tshirt--- obviously never been in an ER--- cant help stupid
Hi how do you like the Rhinowalk saddle base? You attached 10l or 20l on each side?
Mate, the Fuel Check lists 98 at 193.9 at that servo at the moment. Do you get a discount?
not sure why I said $1.40 mate, Head was gone that day 🤯
1.48 litre wow that's cheap , nice cruise mate I'm hoping to get the same bike when one comes up second hand. Cheers from S.Aust 👍
Thanks legend, The Transalp won’t disappoint and there’s lots of accessories/remaps ect 🔥👍
Thanks for the review Jimmy. Can you comment on the high speed compression? Low speed demands are handled well imo on stock suspension but the suspension is too slow to adapt to impacts which gives it that harshness.
No worries mate, The bike feels a little bit more twitchy in the smallest bumps but hitting big holes at speed there’s no bottoming out and that wallowing feeling, just taught and ready to attack it’s not as comfy for just being lazy if that makes sense
@JimmyHutchison I think I get you but I want that lazy comfort. I find the suspension too slow on those hits. Hey, I'm in Newcastle so if you are ever in the area contact me if you like. I have exact same bike.
What do you call an Australian fly that can't stop talking? 🪰 A "buzz"kill! 😝
A big difference with the nose dive! And less body roll. Great bike for an all rounder. 🏍 Plenty of power and not to heavy for a global travel bike! 🌍🌎🌏
Those bags look sad!….
There empty, getting ready for a big trip👍😂
To bad it's a honda
Adnoh Honda reliability is good👍
Hii, how tall are you?? I wanna get one of these too
Thanks for the video Jimmy - good to see you riding with so much more confidence than when you first bought it. I have a similar (white) TA, also with the B&B bash-plate, now at 20,200 kms here in South Australia. Just a couple of questions, with no need to reply here if they are addressed in your subsequent video. Are the forks still 'separate function' after the work? No objection to SF forks - my old Cagiva Elefant has them, as did my M1Rs on my modded Ducati back in the late '80s - just wondering if that changed. The advantage of SF forks being that compression and rebound can be altered just with oil grade in each leg, although we all know the Transalp's suspension is 'low rent', especially when you have other bikes with Ohlins, TTX etc. Did Clive go inside the rear shock, valving and oil change, or was it only external, with the spring? I'm fairly sure the stiffer spring would have needed more rebound, as the stocker has little of that! I was considering a replacement shocker, both for improved quality, and also a preload knob would be handy. I am also curious as to just how much higher the bike sits after the work, as even at 5' 10", I occasionally find it a bit tall on uneven ground, even in stock trim. Curious as to your mileage also, as I couldn't see it in the video. Thanks again for the video - the bike appeared to handle quite respectably in the rough. And Clive came across very well - a pity I am so far away (from Scone still?) really.
Hi Pat, What Clive did was take out the dummy piston that was in one side of the front suspension and replace it with one that is identical so both have pistons, and matched the action on his special suspension gizmo, also I believe he adds compression washers/rings, Rear he revalved and compression rings and regassed. Clive did an amazing job, bike is sitting with no sag now so not much taller just doesn’t sag. Still in scone mate and roughly 7000ks new baby slows things down 👍 Ask away more ? If you need more details
@@JimmyHutchison That covers it. Sounds like a fairly comprehensive overhaul. Yes I gather the fork reworks usually get rid of the forks' separate function, and make them both the same. Congratulations on the baby - I hope it all goes well!
Thank you Pat, Now the bike is done and bags are fitted I’m hoping to head out to Melbourne and on to Tasmania and travel as much as I can After Xmas
having to upgrade new bikes is ridiculous
I’m a big guy so most bikes I would need new springs for me 👍 Nothing wrong with stock for most people putting about
Yes, it's not a case of "having to", more a case of accepting that the suspension will benefit from some upgrades for some buyers, like almost any bike you buy. My $40,000 Ducati, with stock Ohlins, also benefited from upgrading. The bike was relatively cheap at $15,740 on-road - $3,000 less than the Suzuki, and more saved than that relative to the Tenere. Mine being over 20,000 kms now requires a suspension oil change anyway, so not a big drama. Your criticism suggests you don't own the bike under discussion...
Hey, great video! You ride in a user mode, min power, max engine braking, traction off and off-road abs. I usually set it up the same way, just wondering if the full engine braking is better for off road.
I’m not 100% sure on that but I do find it helps down hill 👍I like to still be safe and not push it to hard as I’m no pro 😁
@@JimmyHutchison An individual choice - try and see is the best suggestion. Personally I prefer lowest EB of the three - any higher pulls the bike up too much for me. I find the lowest setting has enough engine braking, about the same as my old (Ducati-engined) Cagiva Elefant 750.
Hi Jimmy, thanks for the nice video; beautiful country you live in. Can you tell me what mount you have there above your dashboard? Thanks in advance, greetings from Germany
Thank you, Sure it’s a insta360 flexible adhesive mount, With a magnetic quick release,Love to come to Germany and ride 👍
@@JimmyHutchisonthanks for quick reply and always welcome to come to Germany! 😊
Hi Jimmy, can you ride the bike on those crappy Hunter Valley backroads mate? My Transalp crashes into one bit of repaired tarmac after the next. Thanks, Shaun
Mate the hunter roads are the worst but the new upgrade suspension makes it not spine crushing ,Also noticed a big difference in corners and braking, Bike feels taught and agile
Looks like a significant improvement. What was the $ damage?
If you need new springs for your weight ,$1350 Money well spent.Changes the bike completely 👌
Good stuff Jimmy, real men ride tranny’s 💪Clive did my suspension upgrade on the transalp aswell. Night and day difference and a great bloke to deal with.

How is compared to tiger 900 gt
No had the privilege to test a tiger yet😁
What size?
Xxl 😆
How's the fitting?
It’s a very cushiony and adapts to your face 👍 It’s a great helmet
Sounds convicing enough for me. The thing is, I have a big head and it's really frustrating to find an adventure helmet with bigger shell size. Thanks to your content and answers, I'll have a look on this LS2 helmet. And you just earn yourself a subscriber 🤘🤘🤘
@Leapless 🤝 Legend , I was lucky I got to try one in store,Hope you can to
That Skyway ride looks insane! Bugger that they have that "mesh" over the front window, really spoils the view. Looks like you struck out with the weather...bugger! I was hoping for some more commentary about the Transalp. I currently have a 2020 Honda CB500X and looking to maybe upgrade to the Transalp. Good on Ya mate, for toughing it out in the cold and the wet! Perhaps... some more ridding POV in Yar next vid would be good. A bit too much "talking to camera" shots. 👍
Thank you mate for giving it a view. The weather spoiled it a bit but I sort of enjoyed the THE MIST 😁 I will be doing lots more content on the bike in the coming days, suspension, tyres, luggage ect and I will mention the comparison with the cb500x, Just fyi I wouldn’t go back down👍 Noted about more bike less face 😂 Take care mate and keep a eye out for the upgrades, Enjoy the 500x while you still got it😊
Wish you have talked some more about the motorcycle… 😢
The next video I’ve started filming I get new knobby tyres and suspension done😁 And a few more things 👍
New video up mate👍
