great racing and fantastic filming. Congrats.
Great filming
What is the platform you were filming from?
Handheld Galaxy S20 from a small inflatable dinghy with an electric outboard.
Another great video. Thank you for posting. Nice to see you do get some chop!
Lots of Port Tackers coming in within the Zone and Starboard tack boats having to alter course - but calls of PROTEST !!! WHY?
I would love to see you cover the IOM WCR in Gladstone with your dinghy and camera Ian. 👍👍
Now that would be fun...but I'm a bit wary about doing actual competition races, as I sometimes (often?) get in the way a bit!! 🙂
@@wattlefarmsailing You could try asking the race organizers if they are willing to provide a boat with an operator in exchange for video recording like this. I think you have some of the best RC sailing videos around with this "on the water" perspective.
Hi Ian, Do you guys have a timetable available, could be neat to pay a visit if I'm over that way
@bthom68- the DF65's sail every Saturday 1000-1230. IOM's from 1300-1600
Geez, does no one do their penalty turns up there?
Nice video
Which is the better watch? louis Viuoton
Of course :-)
I have a 3 dogs that I’ve started sailing for fun in our handicap series. Martin Firebrace design from the late 90’s
lol
It appears 27 gained a substantial advantage on the fleet by the port/ starboard after the start. Interesting rules question regarding the penalty turn and clearing your self?
@@lbose1 all too often seen. Start on port and as soon as they cross the line and get the all clear turn to starboard and put everyone at fault. However they have to be underway and not just getting underway. Difficult if no OD is present.
27 technically did not do his turn. He returned to the line! I think that’s correct
I think he can do both at the same time. He was OCS, which means he has to return, and he fouled a STBD tack boat, meaning he has to do a gybe and tack (more or less in one continuous move). He did both of these.
How did the inside out gate at the top work out?
Quite well...gives more options and splits the fleet into the top marks. There are pitfalls...stbd entering boats that don't tack to round the RH mark and continue across to the LH mark can cause conflict with boats approaching from the left. Outside-in roundings alleviate this, but you need a wide spacing of the top marks to prevent clashes as the boats head downwind (especially in top of rig conditions). Each scheme has pros and cons. Still feeling our way.
Nice!
Great to see all these older designs still racing competitively.
At least four boats OCS in this first race.
❤
nice and smooth rudder 66
What has happened to the focas on the camera. Not a patch on past vidios?
Recorded in 1920x1080...and looks ok when I review it??
@@wattlefarmsailing Just had a look back at June 23 65 and totaly different
Sorry Ian, i just rebooted Com and 100% improvement, Thanks.
3:04 777 penalty?
36 is a respectable South African !
Why did 56 withdraw? Poor guy was winning!
Port-starboard seems to be a negotiable concept 😂
Busy lake! IOMs whistling past in their own race!
I’m glad 36 went back and properly rounded that mark!
Murray sailed a flawless race
Nice action in these gusty conditions.
This is a nice way to cover an RC sailing race, really being in the middle of things. I think it would be nice if the graphics in the top left would change to reflect the position of each boat during the race, when there are overtakes. And maybe it's TH-cam's processing, but the video doesn't look fully smooth on my screen. As if some frames are dropped or so.
Something fitting about a channel about rc sailing being run by someone called Westlake. ;-)
pfff what a publicity for V ones !
Auckland is the home of Ian Vickers...🙂quite a loyal following
Britpop at the first mark????
I have a Wind Warrior in California that is in excellent condition, and I'd like to sell it. I don't know if it makes sense to ship it to NZ. Any interest?
Shame no one does their penalty turns for infringing!
Hey, hey, hey, some 65ers were enjoying a day, thanks for uploading it! ;)
And then one guy gets a puff and he’s gone 😂😂
Oh yeah Great sailing too.
Great photography. Drone or telephoto??
Handheld mobile phone from dinghy....
Superb race from Kerry Earl, good pressure on those well tuned sail. Not as good for the second race. Coverage at WattleFarmSailing is the best by far.
That 3rd place was so very cruel !
Ian, You've done some of the smoothest low camera shake video I've ever seen. What camera/phone are you using and does it have image stabilization? I assume someone else is driving the boat and doing a good job of it because your point of view just seems to reverse direction without an indication of a turn.
Hi - Samsung Galaxy S21 in a DJI Osmo handheld gimbal. Just me in the boat...trying to steer, keep an eye out for other RC yachts, keep the action somewhat in frame, and keeping clear of the jetty (frequently unsuccessfully!) Electric outboard gives great responsiveness (and reverse) and makes it a lot easier. Ian

Any recommendations for sails for 65 ?
Nice little boats , seem well designed . What are dimensions please ? Are they comparable to MicroMagics ?
They're a little bigger and heavier than the MM's and therefore prefer a bit more wind (though they do have a light air main which boosts light air days a lot). Not sure if the website is still up and running but I think they are 76cm LOA.
Haven't sailed my WW in years. I'll have to dust it off and get it wet! Lovely piece of water and nice friendly racing. Thanks for posting.
Sad error for 611 in race 2!
Excellent video coverage. I appreciated the captions. Good to see penalties enforced.
Enjoy your sailing videos Ian
