    I've owned wood stoves, and pellet stoves-- I much prefer a pellet stove's heat (to any other source, including wood stove), and it requires very little baby-sitting (not true of wood stove). We do have excellent generator backup so no big deal during power outage (most pellet stoves only require about 300 watts electricity)

    Excellent description of this stove's features. I've been heating with wood for many years and I simply love this stove. My stove at the other end of the house is burning out so I will sure replace it with one of these when the time comes. I can put a bunch of wood in at 10 pm, flip the lever for the catalytic converter and there is heat all night and good coals in the morning (6am). I live in Kansas so can't drive up to the factory to buy one but I got my first one delivered to the local lumber yard. It took two good sized young men to get it off the truck and into my house. Best money I ever spent. Had a big bird in the chimney last summer and when I took the chimney apart to free it, I was shocked at how clean it was. Lots of stove burn so that creosote coats the inside of the flue. Not with one of these stoves. That big woodpecker was black with soot when I got him out but the chimney had no creosote.

    From the one I had in the 90's no window in it. I was told not to put alot of wood in it like you would a cast iron stove. You have more mechanical controls than my old one did also. However I put 3 bolts of wood in when it was 15 f outside house stayed 75 with it choked down for 15 hours off those 3 logs. The fire had gone out 8 hours after lightning. 8 hours of 3 logs. Loved living in that house. I was never cold. Burned one face cord that winter and the neighbor with a Franklin burned 2 cords. And it was never comfortable I. Their house to hot of just not warm enough. Same house build.

    I have had a conventional air tight wood stove, a modern epa certified wood stove and a pellet stove( on my second pellet stove actually. Pellet stove all day and night with no regrets. Less work , no going on ladders to clean chimneys, no increased insurance cost, and nearly zero risk of a chimney fire with a properly installed venting system.

    Very good detailed, and down to earth honest opinion and explanation! Getting ready to try out my pellet stove I've owned for almost a year now that I bought before I moved to the country. Have had many wood stoves when I was younger and growing up. Still have a wood stove in a concrete and metal large out building. I use to work with my grandpa that use to sell firewood up in to his mid 70's and split it all by hand with a 8 lb maul.

  • @frankie7508
    @frankie7508 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

    He's wrong. There is no comparison. The pellet stove is far more energy efficient. At least twenty percent more efficient. It also has a fan to distribute the heat. It lights off automatically. It burns far more complete and so your ash is much finer and doesn't need to be cleaned up as often. Because it burns the fuel more thoroughly there is no risk of a chimney fire. Pellet stoves can be ducted sideways directly out the sidewall of the house. There is no manual light off of a pellet stove as there is with a woodstove. About the only disadvantages the woodstove does not need electric. And then dealing with all of the wood and prepping, it takes a lot of time in effort. To save what a couple a hundred dollars? And then there of course is the duration of the burn. Again, no comparison a pellets that can be loaded up depending on the size of the hopper up to 120 lbs Of pellet fuel on some models. He gave a very unfair, Inaccurate, And confusing comparison. And it is clear that he is not a very technically adept person and so he could not explain the difference is very well. There is no comparison whatsoever. The pellet stove is the way to go.

I have replaced the gaskets only 2 times and at least 5 converters, the fire shield that protects the converter once, the original was cast iron. Nice video, I'm a 65 y/o woman and I have had both a PelPro 130 pellet stove as well as a Jotul wood stove in my home. I got the Jotul first, then ended up working out of town five days a week. I needed something that was a bit safer, and that I could leave for a bit, and not worry, hence the pellet stove. I installed the pellet stack myself- no problem. My pellet stove has been goin like gangbusters for 4 years now, no problem. My Jotul, amazing. Both are wonderful. I really got a kick out of your description of the dust :) not too bad. Really made me laugh! Cost is just about the same, it is just a matter of what sort of work do you want to put into them. Now, I am moving this Spring, and with the cost to replace them both, forget it- they are both coming with me. My Jotul is now twice the price-and the new regulations have made them a bit more costly and a my model (Castine) has been discontinued and replace with a more regulated model-AGH. As for the 40 lb bags, well, if you don't use the muscle, you loose the muscle! Thank you for a great video. I really enjoyed watching you compare them both.

    If you need a woodstove, this is the one to buy. Easy to operate, easy to clean, gives out a wonderful gentle heat! Also holds the heat long after the fire dies down. I don't have to reload it in the middle of the night to keep the house warm. Uses much less wood than my old Vermont Castings Encore, I would highly recommend this stove!

    Hearthstone stoves require temp to be around 800 before bypass is closed. Apple is harder than oak.

    • @CampbellCabin
      @CampbellCabin ปีที่แล้ว

      That’s probably the internal temperature at 800. Which is always twice the temp of the top external temp.

  • @mdocod
    @mdocod ปีที่แล้ว

    Keep in mind that a lot of the temp drop that occurs after engaging the cat on a stove like this is simply because the exhaust is taking a longer path across more material to sink heat into. As long as there are visible flames in the firebox, the bulk of combustion is still from flames and the cat is simply providing minor exhaust cleanup. When choked down enough that ALL of the combustion is moved to the cat, and you're no longer using flames down in the box to combust the wood gases, you'll likely observe a rise in EGT's, as the combustion is all taking place up near the stove pipe rather than throughout the system. I recommend single wall stove pipes for this type of system as that provides a way to capture more of that combustion heat that is near the "end" of the path back into the house. Modern "hybrid" stoves attempt to perform the majority of combustion using flames down in the firebox, either primary or secondary, and then use the catalysts to clean up the exhaust slightly while that is occurring. In the Hybrid systems the only time the cat is carrying the bulk of wood gas combustion is near the end of the wood gas part of a burn cycle, when there is no longer enough wood gases being released to support a continuous flame in the firebox, but still plenty for the catalyst to process.

    My daughter in Minnesota bought a Woodstock soapstone stove, and I could not believe the difference in how the stove operates! She made a fire in the evening, and the house was still toasty warm the next morning. I have been burning wood for about 35 years, and I have never experienced a stove like this. The heat is so much more gentle and not overpowering. The heat radiates from the soapstone for a long time. With my present stove, it heats up quickly, but after an hour or so, it is out of the optimal burn zone, so I am messing with it again. It makes a LOT of ashes also. I get about a pail of ashes every day. My daughter said she cleans her ashes out about once a week. I am sure it uses a lot less wood also because it burns so efficiently. To truly understand the difference of a soapstone stove, it is one of those things that you have to experience for yourself. The stove my daughter has also has lids for cooking.

    • @CampbellCabin
      @CampbellCabin ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree with you. I was a bit skeptical after years of studying and trying to find a reason to upgrade to this soapstone stove. But only after a month of burning it on and off. It is absolutely the best stove I have ever had. I lit a fire the other morning at 5 am and engaged the catalyst. The large panel of soapstone was still over 130 degrees after 14 hours. Thanks for watching and have a great day.
