I remember this in 1992. This was in the wake of Connors' run to the US Open semi-finals in 1991 aged 39. He'd originally challenged Monica Seles, who that year had consolidated her grip on the No.1 position and was being talked up as the most formidable female player in history. Seles refused Connors' challenge so Navratilova took up the mantle. It didn't really make sense given Martina was practically the same age as Connors and was past her prime. Made more sense if he'd played Graf or Seles to compare his form against the very best peak woman player.

I would’ve never played tennis if it weren’t for Jimmy Connors. I was 18 years old and I was watching him play when he was even younger than I was and it was a sight to behold. I was so excited to learn this new game. I bought myself Jack Kramer racquet for five dollars someone sold it to me. Then one day I saw him playing golf at Santa Barbara golf club. He asked me how I was doing. I was playing the 18th tee if I make par I shoot a 75. It was incredible meeting my idol.

Ma se si dovesse fare una partita senza handicap per l'uomo, credo che il punteggio sarebbe addiruttura schiacciante , a favore dell'uomo.
