I draw and I talk. Various art experiments with different pens, inks and pencils etc.
An Idiot and his cheap art supplies
I've been on a stupid quest to find cheap art supplies. And I'm not even talking about good value. I had lost sight of the pursuit of good value art supplies and ended up considering cost as the only factor that was important. I have spent money on expensive pens but often I don't spend the right amount of money on the consumables.
After making this video I'm starting to wonder if I've made a few like this before.

My illogical apathy towards making digital art
มุมมอง 2.8K4 หลายเดือนก่อน
So I sat down to draw on my computer in an attempt to make something of quality. And then I found myself wishing I was somewhere else… like in front of a piece of paper for example. Once again in the beginning of the video I sound like someone who is about to fall asleep. Well MAYBE I AM! Let’s pretend that is a reflection of how excited I am about drawing digitally. Lots of scribble searching ...
My last sketchbook doesn't exist and I'm grateful.

The winds swept across a vast endless expanse of sand. Resulting in rolling dunes that grinds whatever remained of the last civilization into dust. A lone traveler pulls something out from the debris. A book. He opens the book wondering what advanced knowledge his ancestors have left behind... It's your sketchbook...
My dislike for making pen reviews... Or any product
มุมมอง 9937 หลายเดือนก่อน
Ok I probably will be temped to make another product review. But I just don't want to sell that there is a connection between our personal development and some endless cycle of materialism.
Removing fountain pen feedback - cheap hack
มุมมอง 1.2K10 หลายเดือนก่อน
Or maybe how to ruin a perfectly good fountain pen if you liked the feedback to begin with. If you think this is a terrible idea please let the world know in the comments.
Cleanest and easiest way to refill a fountain pen

I guess after I post this video I'm going to discover that everyone has been refilling fountain pens with these bottles for years.

My favorite Jinhao... so far
มุมมอง 9Kปีที่แล้ว
In this video I show you my selection of Jinhao fountain pens. And what I don't like about them. And my current favorite. 0:00 Jinhao 599 and 777 ( Lamy Safari clones) 4:54 Jinhao 65 (with grip mod) 7:09 Jinhao x750 (The heavy one) 9:12 Jinhao 994 (It's cheap. That is all) 10:13 Jinhao 80 (Amazing but I can't use them) 15:03 Jinhao x159 (My current favourite. Chinese Montblanc 149 style??) Yes ...
The best kind of refillable pen
มุมมอง 2.3Kปีที่แล้ว
A rough summery ( which is about as long as a summery can be) as to why I think the fountain pen is the best kind of refillable pen. I have problems with every other kind I know of. I videoed this on a really cheap usb camera. So easy. I think I'll do it again.
Sailor pen cartridge hacks
มุมมอง 1.7Kปีที่แล้ว
In which I quickly modify a international cartridge piston converter from a cheap Jinhao pen to fit in my sailor fude nib fountain pen. I then also use a silicone drinking straw as a refillable cartridge as well.
Perpetua Lumina - Interesting pencil
มุมมอง 1Kปีที่แล้ว
Imagine if a pencil was a technological advancement into the future of sustainable writing implements. A shining example in a dark self-destructive world of wanton wastefulness. I know a sort of made fun of their marketing but after writing the above I have some respect for it. It wasn't easy.
Filtering ink for a fountain pen - DIY carbon ink?
มุมมอง 1.1Kปีที่แล้ว
In this experiment I filter sumi ink in an attempt to make a DIY platinum carbon black. It helps quite a bit. Not perfect though.
The Pilot Kakuno

The Pilot Kakuno is a great fountain pen. I think they had a put a face on it just to tell everyone it's target audience.
AI coming for your humanity (A crazy anti-AI art rambling rant)
มุมมอง 651ปีที่แล้ว
It shouldn't be called AI generated art. It should be called AI digested art. No wait... It shouldn't even be called art. Is it art to steal a painting out of a museum? Is it art to eat a burger that you wanted when someone else made it?... Ok I lost myself on that last analogy. Now I'm rambling in the comments and I've done enough of that. There is another 14 minutes of rambling in the video.
Cheap watercolor (Mont Marte Signature) 1 month light fastness test
มุมมอง 3Kปีที่แล้ว
On the box these really cheap $9 watercolors said that they contain very light-fast pigments. So I decided to test that.

That’s unfortunate that you are so limited in which pens you can comfortably use! I think you may be uptight, holding onto the pen as if it’s going to be snatched from your hold. I just Love the Jinhao 80, as I’m retired and cannot afford a Lamy 2000. I think they’ve done a wonderful job on these dupes, hats off to them. Also, I’m always very careful how tight I screw them back on, as so many are plastic and can be ruined easily- treat them tenderly, respect them. They may be cheap, but if you abuse a cheap pen, you will do the same when you buy an expensive one! Like allowing a child to walk all over the old, worn out couch, guess what will happen when you can now afford that very pricey new couch…..yep, because he never learned respect. I think it’s Crazy how the Lamy dupes come with converters, but buy a Lamy Safari for about $30. And it has no converter Or cartridge…..shame on them!
jinhao x750. While it looks good and writes ok, I would not recommend it. The nib dries out quickly and the cap tend to come off easily.
The EF nib is my daily pen I keep in my jeanspocket. I do a lot of paper work and still get a little excited when it's time to write. I really enjoy Manga dip nibs so the little bit of feedback I get is really nice. I'm 40 by the way and do very serious work. Only thing I find lacking is I can't get one in solid brass.
I DID NOT EXPECT THAT ENDING HAHAHAAAAAA
I dunno I like the micron it bleeds less and smudge less especially if you always slide the tsquare on the paper you just need to have a consistent angle the problem I have with artline is it bleeds if it is in one position for so long and for unipin it smudge if you are working too fast but the nib for micron as the tip gets smaller is not so durable thats why I get the kuretake zig for 0.05 and 0.03 even the 0.1 since the bleed is not as unendurable as the artline and it doesn’t smudge even if you are too fast but the bigger the nib of the kuretake zig the more the bleed becomes noticeable just take into mind micron needs to have consistent angle and kuretake needs consistent line weight
Hilarious sketchbook review and very helpful as well! Two thumbs up.
Thank you for this accurate illustration
Greetings! Im very interested in buying this pencil in 0.3 mm, can you recommend it after all these years? Really appreciated the review, especially intro and drawing parts.
I found the Jetstreams to be pretty wet and blotchy. Both Parker and Cross ballpoint refils are lightfast, I believe. Parker mentions some kind of ISO standard in their promo material.
battery size?
Can I use the regular fountain pen ink? I use my fineliners for general writing and have at least two bottles of fountain pen ink (Pelikan 4001) just laying around. As much as i love my fountain pens, I prefer to carry around a fineliner. So, I was just wondering if I can use that ink instead?
Yeah the moment you mentioned the freedom of drawing without your hand being in the way, im confident now in a tablet without a screen.
I like all pens. Some of the rollerballs are better than others like with anything.
love this review lol.
Ngl it makes me so stressed knowing tht if i don't use a archival pen/material for my drawings they'll jst fade eventually 😭ugh
Well nothing lasts forever and there's a beauty in that. Even the Mona Lisa will be dust some day. It's good to do things to increase lifespan but don't fret too much
Thanks for sharing such details I was just about to order them online.
Some of the disposable ones are easy to refill with india ink. So far I have only tried Microns, Faber Castell, and Zebra fude.
Thanks! For the jokes, too....
I think its much easier and fast to create original art on paper, however when it comes to anything that "just has to be done" like coloring or perfecting the lines of the logo - digital is a way to go. But for me it always start on paper.
I didn't know how much I needed a video like this! Thank you sir.
So it is not possible, I'm planning to do the same - thank for your video. I broke my rotring .2mm and I still have couple of inks, don't know what to do with it now.
I'm very new to the world of Jinhaos and I love their giant 9019. I wanna get the 9053 but compared to the 9019 ($3.50 US for us) is super cheaper compared to the 53. Same nib, same size just one is made of wood and there are versions with a brass cap. Unexpectedly smooth writer too!
Underrated.
So useful and so funny! It's my first time trying out this type of eraser and I'm quite excited since i have a problem with smudging ever since i started to use carbons. When you say you have the Faber Castell eraser since 2016, do you mean that you've always bought the same model, or that you literally used the one in the video? In such case I'm surprised that it lasts so long
Moleskine items are designed in Italy with most of them being printed, stitched and assembled in China.
be careful not grinding/polishing too much, the life of a fountain pen is on the tip of the nib. if the tipping material gone it won't be smooth ever again unless you change the nib or retip it. if your pen feels scratchy, make sure to inspect it first like the video before you do any grinding/polishing, it could be something else like misaligned nib.
I also love this pen. The only problem was with the (pocket) clip which became loose after very few uses. The nib can dry out if not used for a while, but even the fine writes smoothly with a minimal amount of feedback.

How to fall asleep without Melatonin!
I ❤ only God.
Don't use a metal ruler with a fineliner marker. When you draw a line the nib of the fineliner gets damaged by the metal ruler. Tech pens are good with the metal ruler.
No Prismacolor fine line markers.
No hand blotter for the too wide lines?!🤔
I have several of these, I think they're pretty good for the cheap price (cheaper in the UK) I don't care if the paper crinkles a bit in a sketchbook, in fact I love to see a full sketchbook with all the crinkly pages stretching the elastic.
I've seen the t-rex and allosaurus page before

that intro was incredible
Aliexpress has those official Rotring inks for 15 usd... Amazon has 250ml Rotring ink bottles for 200 usd though lol
Great review and I loved watching you do this sketch! 😍👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Faber-Castell no made in Malaysia Faber-Castell Made Indonesia
Didn't know such bottles existed. This will make refilling my brushpens and microns much easier. Thank you.
Not everyone is brave enough or wise enough to point out their own flaws. But you, you are truthful to yourself I guess. Thanks for the review about yourself.
Sigh.......you need to keep the pen vertical if you are going to do this, and you need finer sand paper. Maybe 10,000 grit. 2000 grit is very coarse. You also need to remove the weighted needles inside the nibs or you are going to ruin them too. I wish that you would stop making these videos. You really have no idea what you are doing and are going to cause a lot of people to ruin their pens.
Really good review, thank you for sharing it!
Your video helped a lot to clear my doubts.
You really have no idea what you are talking about. You have no idea how these pens are to be used, cleaned, and maintained. I have no idea why you thought that you were competent to make this video.
One of my favorite school library books back in the wee early 80's. Ah the memories
I'd like to see how it compares to Safari Rollerball or Pilot G2 and how perform with different inks
Can you review the .5?
