Ya Never Know - Little Shop Of Horrors Demo Recording
มุมมอง 6K12 ปีที่แล้ว
A song of hope performed by Ashman and Menken. Mushnik's portion of the song is the same but the three girls have slightly different lyrics and a less impressive ending.
Suppertime - Little Shop Of Horrors Demo Recording
มุมมอง 9K12 ปีที่แล้ว
Mushnik's death song performed by Ashman and Menken. This early version has different diologue for Mushnik and an extra verse for the plant (with different lyrics peppered throughout)
Closed For Renovation - Little Shop Of Horrors Demo Recording
มุมมอง 1.9K12 ปีที่แล้ว
The happy (but slightly pointless) little ditty as sung by Ashman and Menken. THe early version has different diologue for Mushnik after the second verse and changed harmonies (probably due to the song being sung by two people rather than three)
Da Doo - Little Shop Of Horrors Demo Recording
มุมมอง 2.3K12 ปีที่แล้ว
The demo version of this cheerful piece of exposition sung by Ashman and Menken. This early version has slight changes to harmonies and diologue.
Somewhere That's Green - Little Shop Of Horrors Demo Recording
มุมมอง 3.3K12 ปีที่แล้ว
The demo version of Audrey's soulful solo. It is very similar to the final product, barring a slight lyric change in the opening, changing semi-sadist to dental sadist.
Prologue - Little Shop Of Horrors Demo Recording
มุมมอง 6K12 ปีที่แล้ว
The opening number as sung by Ashman and Menken. The main tune and diologue are exactly the same but the music before the opening monologue is far darker.
Downtown (Skid Row) - Little Shop Of Horrors Demo Recording
มุมมอง 19K12 ปีที่แล้ว
A demo recording of the big chorus number sung by Ashman and Menken. It's very similar to the final version to begin with, aside from some different harmonies and Seymour's solo verse and the ending are drastically different.
Mushnik and Son - Little Shop Of Horrors Demo Recording
มุมมอง 8K12 ปีที่แล้ว
Sung by the writers Howard Ashman and Alan Menken, this version of the Fiddler On The Rof inspired adoption song bears little resemblence to its current form, featuring the same tune but vastly different lyrics.
Now (It's Just The Gas) - Little Shop Of Horrors Demo Recording
มุมมอง 10K12 ปีที่แล้ว
A demo recording of the dentist's death song sung by Alan Menken and Howard Ashamn, the writers. It is very similar to the finished product, however it includes a deleted verse intended to be sung by the dentist set to the same tune as Seymour's opening spiel.
Meek Shall Inherit (Reprise) - Little Shop Of Horrors DELETED SONG
มุมมอง 4.8K12 ปีที่แล้ว
A song removed from the original score, this reprise of the Meek Shall Inherit was meant for Patrick Martin (of World Botanical Enterprises) for the show's final scene before the death of Seymour and the finale. Personally I'm glad it was removed because I never liked the original Meek Shall Inherit in the first place, and this is similarly dull
Crystal, Ronette and Chiffon - Little Shop Of Horrors DELETED SONG
มุมมอง 19K14 ปีที่แล้ว
A song originally written for the musical Little Shop of Horrors, Crystal, Ronnette and Chiffon was written for the end of the show. It's a nice song, but it's easy to see why it was cut - it doesn't really gel with the rest of the musical

I wish they included this as it would have segue awayed easily into Seymour’s confrontation and death and it would have had his death occur during a song like the other characters’ deaths as Seymour’s death is the only one that doesn’t occur during a song (not counting Mean Green Mother from Outer Space in the director’s cut of the film). The reprise Da-Doo doesn’t count as a song as it’s more dialogue than singing and the only reasoning for its inclusion on the album so it can imply that Seymour died.

  • @hunterolaughlin

I’ll admit the way Orin says “What” after Seymour says “But I can’t” is just funny.

  • @hunterolaughlin

I know from reading the comments section that many prefer the original musical monologue Seymour gave about his life growing up on Skid Row. However, I’m going to give my hot take and say that Howard Ashman was right to rewrite the monologue for the final draft of the musical. I feel like the shorter monologue works much better in establishing Seymour’s character and his backstory and situation. You still get the idea of him growing up as an orphan and how hard his life is in the final version. Plus it also has the hilarious verse “I keep asking God what I’m for and he tells me ‘Gee, I’m not sure’” so that’s also a plus.

What's interesting is, the darker music under the Voice of God monologue is the same melody as "All Gone," the original song that was written for the finale. I wonder if that was intended to be foreshadowing at one point?

    • @onnapnewo
      @onnapnewo ปีที่แล้ว

In the final show, the music under that monologue is the same chord structure as the first half of the finale, just up a whole step. So it's very likely that was the intention!

Same! Not only do I love the parallels between Seymour's lines (the "now - for the girl" and "now - but the girl" parts), but I also think that showing Seymour actively decide he's not going to help Orin hits much harder than having it end with Seymour not really deciding and just running out of time (like happens in the official version.)

This song gave me an idea for a framing device in a fan script I plan on writing for a film remake: a girl in a post-apocalyptic LA goes to Skid Row to learn about what happened from the only three people on Earth who remember: Crystal, Ronette and Chiffon (however I plan on it being nonmusical, though this fact will be lampshaded)

Quintin Gay There's a bit of a stumble on the dialogue there, but he says: "You can't afford to say 'no' to this one, baby. Sweetheart. Hotshot. Pal-of-mine." If there's any other confusion, the rest goes like this: "Come on, don't act so above it, I'm Patrick Martin, the marketing ace. I've got a concept-you'll love it To get this plant all over the place! I'll take cuttings off of the leaves, We'll treat 'em gently. We'll put them in pots. Like everyone else I'm having trouble hearing some of Seymour's lyrics in the final chorus. Here's what I can make out: "Deep inside I can tell I'll get outta here. "I'd move heaven and hell to get outta here. "Bid the gutter farewell and get outta here…" Here's the line everyone seems to have trouble deciphering. I hear the words "You can stand there" and something that rhymes with "bound" or "around." My best guess is that it's something like: "You can stand there and think you know 'bout the kid." Regardless, the last three lines are: "-But you don't know a damned thing about the kid! "If you don't know he's bound to get outta Skid- "Turn the whole thing around and get outta Skid Row!"
