The fidelity is unusually good, in spite of average surface noise. It sounds like an early electrically recorded record. I suppose this was the very beginning of it.

Somehow the record's label doesn't match the description written here.

This song was composed by Willard Robison, and his version (backed only by his own piano) is the best. But this is a quite nice dance version. Incidentally Robison came from a family of ministers and wrote this song as an attack on all the nasty people in the 1920's who were calling jazz "the devil's music" (sound familiar?). I'm only sorry this record doesn't include a vocal, because the lyrics are beautiful: "Just like a string bean needs a pole/You need good music to brighten up the soul."

Hal Swain is hardly in the same league as Ethel Waters, who introduced this song in the 1929 musical "On With the Show," but his band plays well and this is a quite peppy dance version and a lot of fun.

I suspect Seger Ellis is playing guitar as well as singing. Brian Rust says the "Tampa Blue 5" was a pseudonym for Johnny Hamp's Kentucky Serenaders.

The orchestra is good and so is the song. However, the record was not well treated, but the fidelity through most of the record is good with average surface noise. The phonograph was accustical which diminished the record, even though the recording was electrical.

I love this tune and the movie it's in. It is sung by Mary Eaton in the 1929 movie "Glorifying the American Girl". No foolin'.

This is the Savoy Orpheans band..Herb Finney was the bands trombone player.

Morton actually led a band in Chicago for live dates and some touring but this is not it. Like Louis Armstrong's Hot Five. Morton got this group together for Victor record dates to compete with Armstrong's Okeh sides. For this Dec. 16,1926 date the group was Morton,p-vcl-ldr; George Mitchell,c; Kid Ory,trb; Omer Simeon,cl; Johnny St. Cyr, bj-g; John Lindsey,sb;Andrew Hilaire,d. All the musicians were from New Orleans except Mitchell who was from Louisville.

Lovwly aong and recording. To think no eletrixity was used in the record of the rexord. All horn.
