I remember reading that there was a type society folklore of sorts due to the name change and having it appear French because she did not want it known she is Jewish . That she feared if it was known she is Jewish that it could possibly cause antisemitism , that not only could it be that possibility of her being in danger but that her business could also. That the holocaust was still fresh and in the front of the Jewish community. I’m not positive any of that is true but I do remember reading an article long ago about her and if my senior citizen brain is remembering correctly that is what it said.

She was one of the greats in Beauty Business history. Too bad her company is now focused on Acquisitions rather than product development and keeping the customers that they already have. Every time I love a product from Estée Lauder or Clinique, it disappears .... Estée Lauder's Sensitive skin line was fantastic- it disappeared and then the cleanser reappeared as the La Mer cleansing lotion, at 3 times the price. That is not conducive to brand loyalty. They are losing customers by the boatload, because they forgot about the customers, and what customers need and want.

There should be a natural clock is our body that calculate this automatically. And the result would be that someone at 104 would look like a 54 year old, based on what he accomplished in life. But that's not the way things work.

Worked for Steve Wynn from 1983 to 1985 in Atlantic City. He was an exceptional owner, hard on employees, yes, but the benefits were worth it. I remember we had a waiting list of dealers, and other employees, trying to get a job at the Golden Nugget. He had the highest "toke" rate in Atlantic City at the time, plus instead of getting a turkey or gift certificate for the Holidays, Steve Wynn doubled your paycheck, no matter how much. Tough but rewarding.
