Question: so the Dr who specializes in vestibular issues will evaluate you then the therapist will work with you a number of days per week and they are also specialized too right?

Great question! The red light serves as the focal point for patients as they turn their heads from side to side. The aim is to keep the dot still and in focus while doing so.

My second method is for adjusting to an uneven step such as a hole or raised object. I suffered a serious ankle injury in the Army when i jumped and came down on the side of my friend's foot. The trick is to train your reflexes to let your legs give suddenly which removes most of your body weight from that foot. Like a shock absorber. Much like if you had just been kicked in the groin how your knees would buckle. Don't fall unless unavoidable, but let your knees bend as much as necessary until you can correct your step. Most of the time it's just a misstep and you'll look funny doing it yet remain on your feet. The goal is protection from rolling an ankle. Works like a charm. 😊

I've spent my 30 year career learning how to adapt to stepping in holes, tripping on objects, and most importantly: falling. This is a good technique. However, I prefer the roll. As in the demonstration, give up your hands and anything you're holding. They are your best protection and will sometimes take damage but will protect your head and torso. Or in my technique, only one hand. As I'm falling forward, after a trip, the danger is hitting my face or head on any stationary object. So I push or lunge away from any objects as I'm falling with my legs. Typically to the side. This has the same result as the large step in her demonstration but minus the potential hip, hamstring, or leg injury imo. I put one arm down to help guide my fall while i turn my body for a roll. The roll is the best method for cushioning the legs and body from a high drop. Much like paratroopers learn in the Army. Since I'm in the process of turning my body, my shoulder is the next contact point but it's minimal since I'm currently in a roll. So the shock of the fall is absorbed first by my hand with my elbow bent to absorb it. Then the side of my arm/shoulder as i roll into the fall. I typically end up on my back or other side without injury. The danger is if you keep your arm straight which will likely cause injury to that wrist, elbow or shoulder joint. So turn your downward fall into a roll to the side. Hope it helps.

Who tf needs to make plan to get up. At that point you’re better off without walking. Also the floor has friction you hand would almost never easily slide.
